Interesting einsteino....funny enough my husband was telling me earlier today to try and go outside for periods of five minutes at a time to receive sunlight as i work indoors the entire day/daylight. I laughed it off, now i know better. Thanks.

einsteino:

The science on this states that our body system has a surprising dependence on natural light; metabolism, digestion, hormones, cell generation, DNA repairs etc all have links to how much sunlight we get and the cycle. For some, the effects are marginal, while for others it could be full blown especially when it comes to mood, so much that there is something called Seasonal Affective Disorder (S.A.D) caused by shorter days in winter. The most direct relationship between natural light, our mood and biology is found in a brain chemical in our neurons called serotonin: which is responsible for our feel good. Inshort anti-depressant drugs work by inducing increased serotonin generation, anyways the literature suggests the brain generates less serotonin when we get less natural light. So, I am guessing the psychological change is in my boisterousness.

If this is true? It is interesting how one can try to debunk another person's experience from a distance. Like I said there are already scientific studies that demonstrates this, you can research that. There is a correlation between daylight and our health, many biological processes are in sync with daylight cycles. Moreso, I already said it doesn't affect everyone to the same degree, for some it is marginal and not enough for them to notice... and I never said or suggested that the effects are fatal, I was quite careful to dwell on the science rather than my thought and was also careful not to sound apocalyptic. this whole discussion rose from my saying it has affected me psychologically. In my case, I am not even depressed but I have noticed slight changes when I go days without daylight. I am usually very lively, more than the average person; so when I become just normal and I don't find the motivation to be outgoing, it is enough to suspect I am taking a hit from something. Others may let these slide as mood swings, but for me when I spot patterns and links, I look it up.

"..those of us who work in enclosed offices should be dead by now." I work in a completely enclosed building(no windows sef) right now and at nights, so I am definitely in that category. but your premise isnt exactly logical, I would say why. In lagos and PH for example, the air is hazardous but lagosians and PH folks are not all already dead, they are not even perturbed and many are like Trump who would argue with science. That doesnt mean it isnt true that the poor air quality isn't affecting people who reside in lagos and definitely some would much later on suffer ailments that may have been caused by the air they saw as normal. How many of those people would suffer from it and when? That depends on several factors, and we all do not have the same genetic makeup or susceptibility. That we know chain smokers who have lived a healthy long life, doesn't debunk the fact that smoking negatively impacts health. So probability rather than a definite outcome is what matters.

Generally, our people have a false survivor mentality that causes us to brush everything aside as insignificant. When science said germs affect health, we went on to say "dirty no dey kill black man", ironically we suffer the most from germicidal diseases that some parts of the world already see as extinct. I remember growing up to "Cancer na oyibo and rich man disease", simply because most of our people didnt have the science nor the funds to diagnose anything other than malaria and typhoid... so when anyone "treats and treats", they turn their suspicious eyes on village people rather than misdiagnosis. Today, although lifestyle is a risk factor for cancer, we now know rich and poor, and all races are susceptible to cancer, only that not every patient has an equal opportunity to get a correct diagnosis let alone a fighting chance.

Sir, to summarize, it is not my truth, it is science and the good thing about science is that it isn't dogmatic. So, you can easily google the literature on it, and verify the facts and offer a counter view for peer review if you find it empirically flawed, who knows yours maybe upheld.

To add to this.. Our lecturer back then in the Uk told us suicide rates go up in Winter months.. I was among the naijans that scoffed at it.. saying naijans don't feel depressed / down. but I noticed there was a difference in my moods between the winter n summer months. You step out at 3pm n its all dark n dreary.. coupled with the grey skies and the cold, no motivation to do any other thing apart from sleep or stay in bed. but in the summer months.. at 11pm its still bright.. I'm gingered to go out and not just stay in doors in bed. There is definitely something there.

I havent been to the U.S but I have seen a video of an American who landed in Toronto during winter and he was outraged at the cold and kept asking "why do y'all live in a place like this?" Lol. My guess is that he is from a temperate U.S state, cos Toronto isnt that cold by canadian standards, that would be the likes of Regina. Anyways Canada is north of the U.S, so should be further up the poles and so
most parts of Canada should be colder than the USA.
But it isnt cold all year. From what I have heard it gets very hot during summer, and generally depends on what part of Canada you live in. Montreal was much colder than Toronto, if I am to compare my time in both cities.

The cold in most canadian cities is not something you cant tolerate if you dress for it, and if your work is indoor, ultimately you would just commute from a warm house to a warm office by driving a warm car - via a snow stormed road though(hopefully you arent as broke as me and dont need to wait buses in the cold). Anyways there are people living in Yukon, though i dont know how they manage to call that living, to me i think it's more like battling the elements.

What I least anticipated is how much effect the short day light can have on one, I am beginning to suspect that it's affecting me psychologically.

vit D pills should be ur best friend this period

If ote$ adpot you..you will be in monaco or dubai enjoying his money lol.

You can transfer. That's the norm. The people having two licenses are usually found in the health sector i.e living in and around border towns or in the process of transferring provinces.

There should be landing stories with details on the thread. But to save the hassle, why not just carry $9,900? By the way CAD$10k should be okay since it's not up to US$9,900.

Na guess I dey guess sha, I actually don't know.

It's all over Canada. They keep moving (rotating)the strike from city to city, so some mails will get stuck somewhere, then later delivered like a month late. Some will be delivered within the regular time frame.

[Or he has a spouse with a valid study permit.

I don't think you can convert to any kind of visa without returning home. You certainly can't apply for study while you're there, for work I seriously doubt Nigerians are given work visa without an employer giving u a job and filing on ur behalf. Except you have a spouse who's a Canadian citizen or PR, you might need to come back home. Try not to overstay, might ruin future chances.[/quote]

It depends on your plans. if you are thinking naija catering.. you may want to go stay in a city where there are enough naijans to give sufficient client base. Hair dressing as well.. but I doubt fulltime naija hairdressing will pay all your bills. Best Is have it in mind. come "forst", see as area be, then align in a way that best suits your reality.
