You people don't know that Rohr has pact with some players and they will not be dropped untik after AFCON.

You see Ezenwa, Akpeyi, Iheanacho, Idowu, Etebo and Ogu, the contract they have with Rohr is one World Cup and one AFCON. You are not likely to see any replacements for them until AFCON is over, so, just manage them for now, same way we managed Echiejile and Onazi through the World Cup

Creating a new thread for it will be okay and I think better. Doing it here will mean it will be muddled up in all the discussions and news that will always be dropped here. Let's give it its own thread to deliberate on and then of course any other moniker can always come observe if they want, after all it won't be a closed thread.... and I trust they won't constitute a distraction on that thread.

I don't think I support the WhatsApp idea. Not about to give out my personal contacts just like that. Shalom Dad. That is my take.

Nairaland Nigerian players awards, 2018.

Good evening house, now that we have seen all the matches for this year it is time to roll out nominees for various award categories.

Once again here are the elected nomination committee members: Tbaba1234, Icon4s, Forgiveness, Komekn, TheSuperNerd, Chriskels and Joebie.

Please house note that the discussions on the selection process would be strictly amongst these 7 monikers.

First off Committee members, do we discuss on this thread or create a separate thread for the selection process?
Let's get this sorted out first then we commence the players selection process.

Committee members we need your quick responses.

Of these lots, Etebo and Iheanacho will remain strong parts of this team. They are part of our future and will eventually come good for the long run. They are both really talented players. If we could be patient and persist with a fruitless Ighalo for more than 3 years all before he caught the fire in the GWG then I see no reason why a year of bad form for Nacho and a couple of lifeless showings from Etebo should see them dropped just like that. That is not how a team is built.

As for Idowu, he could still serve as one of many options at RB and LB if the regular fullbacks and their main deputies are not in action for a matchday perhaps.

Nigeria and Nike renew football partnership
By Colin Udoh, Special to ESPN

Nigeria have renewed their equipment partnership with global sportswear manufacture Nike for the next four years, with an option for another four, NFF President Amaju Pinnick announced on Tuesday.
The new contract could see the NFF committed to Nike until 2026, and comes in the wake of a successful partnership which saw the Super Eagles' World Cup kit earn rave reviews across the world.

"This four plus four deal is the best any African country has ever had with Nike," Pinnick told the media, without going into figures but adding: "I can say it is about hundred percent better than anything else."
Shehu Dikko, the NFF's Vice President and head of marketing, said that the new deal was a massive improvement on the previous one, and included the women's and youth teams as well.

"To start with, this new contract now encompasses not just supply of kit, but also base compensation, which was missing from the last contract," Dikko began.
"There are increased performance bonuses, and increased percentage royalties from sales of merchandise.
"There is also specific provision made for the women's team and the junior teams that was missing from the last contract.
"And to avoid the situation we had recently with clearing our products at the port which led to our women's team travelling without kit, Nike will now take the responsibility to deliver equipment door to door anywhere our teams are.
"This shows the trust Nike have in the NFF," Dikko continued.
Tina Salminen, Nike's Regional Sports Marketing Director for Africa, expressed excitement at the new deal, with the previous one ending at the conclusion of the World Cup in July this year.
"We are very honoured and excited to continue this cooperation with the NFF," Salminen said.
"I don't think anybody had any idea how successful the Nigeria World Cup kit would be. It is the first football kit to ever win the London Design Award and we are very proud of that."

Salminen added that the current strip will run until 2020, when a new design will be launched: "Before Olympics 2020, there will be a new design.

"The same designer who did the current kit will design the new one and he is already waiting to come up with something new and we at Nike cannot wait to see what he comes up with."

I'd go for Musa.

Musa maps out his route as far back as 30-60ft back and then takes his run. Kalu doesn't need such cos of the dribbles and pretty instinct. But for speed, Musa got that. grin

Ask Iceland.

Nigeria vs. Uganda: What did we learn?
By Colin Udoh, Special to ESPN

With qualification for the Africa Cup of Nations secured, Nigeria began their preparations for the tournament with a friendly against Uganda on Tuesday in Asaba.
It finished 0-0 as Gernot Rohr took the opportunity to give some of his rookies and fringe players a run out at the Stephen Keshi Stadium.
What will the German coach have learned from the stalemate as he keeps one eye on next year's showpiece in Cameroon?

Chukwueze brings excitement

He played just the first 45 minutes, but it was more than enough time for Samuel Chukwueze to show exactly why Rohr is so enamoured by him.
The Villarreal youngster was fearless, ran at defenders, kept the ball, turned people inside out, and attempted efforts at goal.
Such was his influence, that that there was always an air of expectancy among the crowd whenever he had the ball at his feet.
There is no doubt that if he continues on the same trajectory, the future of Nigeria's left side (*and right side) is secure.

Set pieces still need work

With Victor Moses retired, Nigeria's set-piece responsibilities appear to have fallen to Oghenekaro Etebo.
His deliveries are improving, and one early in the first half almost sneaked behind the goalkeeper and in off the far corner of the post.
However, another went hopelessly wide, as his inconsistency was evident.
Samuel Kalu took over the mantle in the second half, and again, there was some schizophrenia about his deliveries.
Both players look like they can make something out of set pieces, but there is a tonne of work they need to do to get to the required level.

Ogu/Semi partnership?

From the things that worked to the one that did not.
John Ogu is now presenting a worrying conundrum for Rohr; seen as a reliable stop-gap in midfield and defence, he looked somewhat out of sorts in defensive midfield against South Africa.

As a centre-back against Uganda, he looked tentative, and it was something of a relief that the coach pushed him forward in the second half and introduced William Troost-Ekong.

Ogu can be a solid backup, but he will need to up his game between now and next June.

He even sent me some unofficial copies of players being considered for invitation. Among those names, I saw a John Lazarus... But his team was put as Abia Warriors. Abeg, is John now with Abia Warriors? Or maybe na error? Bcoz I remember you dropped an info one time like that saying that John Lazarus signed up with Lobi Stars and is likely to play on the continent in the coming CAF CL season.

'He Is A Good And Confident Player' - Ex-Monaco Winger Ikpeba Backs Chukwueze To Make Super Eagles AFCON Roster

Former Monaco winger Victor Ikpeba was left impressed by the performance of Villarreal rising star Samuel Chukwueze in Tuesday evening's goalless draw against Uganda and has backed the teenager to make the Super Eagles 2019 Africa Cup of Nations roster.

It was a brilliant debut from the left-footed Villarreal youngster who was menacing and bossed the right flank with his mobility and skills in forty five minutes of action.

''He is a good player and he is a player that has confidence,'' SuperSport pundit Ikpeba said in his half-time analysis.

''This is his first game for the Super Eagles, he exhibited all the attributes we see him playing for Villarreal.

''It shows Gernot Rohr has some good players, bringing in these players into the ranks and creating competition.

''We need the best 23 players to represent Nigeria come Cameroon 2019. He is going to be a good addition to the squad.''

Chukwueze made his full debut for the Super Eagles after six appearances for the first team of Villarreal.

Ajayi's inclusion to the team is a decent one, and the decision for him to replace Awaziem is a well-concieved and well-advised one.

Onyekuru is not rated by Rohr, but he hasn't particularly helped himself by missing those simple goals in the double-legged encounter with the Libyans.

Iheanacho played nothing special against SA that someone else when given the chance cannot execute.

I think it's time he's relegated to the background, we can't continue to reward his lackluster performances with more game time.

Paraguay Vs SA reminds me of the WC game they had in 2002 I think. Or was it 2002? I think it was 2002 shaa.

Brazil vs Cameroun... Ahhh... I wish Seedorf and his boys the best oooo... Make Neymar and Co no spell Cameroun abeg.

And yes, we have played the Germans before in a friendly. Can't exactly remember the year but we lost 1-0.

Funny enough, Cameroun gave a good account of themselves vs Brazil. But Richarlison na bomb.

Now I know that something like unofficial injury status truly exist. Neymar was Tryna play safe and the physical Cameroun side sent him out with an injury.

Brazil won 1-0 thanks to the Everton Superstar, but they matched the physical Lions , and the likes of Coutinho and Firmino were playing safe.

That Cameroun defence knows how to defend corner kicks better than the SE, Comman beat me anyone that sees this. lol

His chance is very much brighter than that of Nwakali, I wish Kelechi Nwakali is watching both Chukwueze and Osimhen to know football is not based on past glory and under-17 MVP, he should enter the next flight to Belgium come January and look for a club in the Belgium Pro league to sign him.
