Not with our solid and stable macro-economic. Kshs has been Africa most stable currency for more than two decades...and has deprciated the least...other Africa currencies just can't seem to handle the dollar...Naira basically crashed in 2016..RAND has faced lots of headway...and so has the Birr. darfay: 2 Likes |

According to Cytonn's The Kenya Retail Sector Report 2018 Kenya a total mall space supply of 15.3 million square feet, against a demand of 14.1 million square feet, resulting in an oversupply of 1.2 million square feet. Nairobi, Eldoret, Kisumu and Nakuru are oversupplied by 2.0 million, 0.3 million, 0.2 million and 0.1 million square feet, respectively. https://cytonn.com/uploads/downloads/cytonn-retail-report-2018-vff.pdf I guess that roughly translate to 1.5M square meters..with Nairobi accounting for a 3rd of them...still a far cry from South Africa 23 M square meters!!! The construction & real estate boom in Kenya the last few years - as seen it rise to become 2nd biggest sector of our GDP - at nearly 15% 3 Likes |

Jonraid: Well as for me I think South Africa has almost or nearly exhausted most of its economic sectors but not all because the production levels in the economy is almost excess to reach the brim of a country's production capacity thus the national output growth inform of GDP will lower down,SA has already filled the gap of economic pushing factors like infrastructure, technology and good governance at some point and so they don't need to spend much on these while developing countries like Kenya,Ethiopia,Nigeria etc needs to invest more of them so as to maintain the market equilibrium levels because consumption rate is higher than the production rate. As for South Africa's case,I think production rate tends to equalize the consumption rate since most of their economic sectors have been highly utilized making production capacity to be relatively lower because its almost achieving it's excess production capacity,it's the same economic phenomenon that happens in developed economies like US,UK etc That's why the GDP growth rate of south Africa tends to be lower as compared to developing countries. My point though. 3 Likes |

Most probably a deal has been signed not only on the minerals(oil, gas, coal and others) but also on other critical areas such as agriculture, blue economy, energy, people to people relations and governance! tlann: |
Re: Kenya Is Ahead of Nigeria In All Aspect (Facts Don't Lie) by Nobody: 6:37pm On Nov 21, 2018 |
Jonraid: No any country will ever reach the economic climax or maturity including the world's largest economy US itself because that means they have reached full employment levels which has never happened in any country before cause for other economic sectors to run market equilibrium levels needs to be arrived at despite almost reaching the excess production capacity. So a country like RSA has almost produced what it should have in the economy therefore it has to cut down production at some point to maintain the economic equilibrium levels hence slow growth rate of national output. 1 Like |

Thanks for your insights. However by this climax,I didn't mean total perfection but rather a country's highest level of growth it can achieve within a longer period of time.Like to put a question, can the US economy grow at 10% at this times? This 10% for the US is nearly impossible currently speaking! Yobeezy: 1 Like |

You're describing marginal utility with lots of words but what ails South Africa is the Middle Income/Class trap.Very few countries ever transition to developed world.Think of the whole of Latin America and only Chile seem to have escaped..likes of Mexico are stuck.South Africa needs to become a developed world and that a Herculean task.According to WB only 13 countries from 101 middle income countries have transitioned to developed high income countries like you have in North America & most of Western Europe since 1960!! Breaking that barrier to the developed world requires no mistakes. Brazil has stagnated at this point for a longer period of time.Hosting a world cup,the olympics and being one of the world's top air-plane manufacturers just haven't gotten the brazil to this developed 'status' Seems SA would have to come up with a strategy to get back to a growth of 5% or more if they want to escape this trap.To make that next leap of becoming a developed nation, you must have a GDP per capita of not less than 25000 US dollars. This is not an easy fit.I can't see SA reaching here in the near future unless miracles happen! https://www.investopedia.com/updates/top-developing-countries/ rvp20182: 1 Like |

It's doable. The solution is having a world class education system for everyone. Not a few elites kids.Chile did it.Only Japan and South Korea have done it in Asia despite all the hardwork.Australia and New Zealand somehow did it otherwise the rest is Western Europe and North America.South Africa are thinking Land and want to go back to Agagrian economy first because face it the current economy is boers.Let them find their bottom and start crawling.Kenya has a better shot at it..in 2050 than them.We just need to keep massively investing in soft issues esp education so you can produce the next generation worker. It sad when people oppose laptop for kids as non priority..and yet that is what could propel the next generation of Kenyans to first world..see what Mpesa did Jonraid: 3 Likes |

Coz of middle class trap.. neither rich nor poor..once you hit middle class like South Africa...it become incredibly hard to grow the economy..all the infrastructure you need are mostly built..all the public facilities done..all urban development done..what remain is finding high paying jobs for everyone ..you cannot do low cost manufacturing or high cost either... etc etc tlann: 3 Likes |
