Any idea on how one can reduce one's monthly car insurance payment?

I've been paying ~255CAD monthly and I was just wondering if I could negotiate for a review any time soon.

PS: It's a brand new car and I'm on Class 5.

Hi, after shopping around to find the best deal which I'd like to assume you've done, the next thing would be to ensure you keep a clean driving record. If you make no claims (and no claims are made against you as well) then your premiums ought to drop for the next insurance year.

You can also consider combining insurance plans. When I first came in, I was offered combined auto-apartment/home contents insurance package and when I compared it to having only auto insurance, the combined package was a better deal.

Ask your current insurer if they have a driving monitoring program. An example is Ajusto Program offered by The Personal Insurance in Ontario which is a usage-based insurance program that you can access directly from your smartphone to help you monitor your driving habits and save up to 25% on your auto insurance premium. There's a little gadget that they affix in your vehicle which tracks how you drive, wether you accelerate and decelerate properly, apply brakes properly and maintain safe driving speeds, wether you drive less during high peak period and at night etc. Once they see you are a low risk driver, they will reduce your premium/offer you a discount on your auto insurance premium in as little as 100 days—just by driving carefully! This is what I and my wife, some of my friends here used on our cars to bring down our premium. For my friend who has been using them for 4 years now, it's been driving down his combined insurance costs every year and keeps you motivated to be a good driver. Hope these help you out, hopefully others in Alberta can chime is as well.

Depending on your luck, It will work as regards turning on and playing music
As for if it will work based on what phone is supposed to do as regards phone and not mp player, for the most part it should work the CASE 2 listed below. It is all dependent on the model(which may be difficult to tell), luck and maybe your service provider

CASE 1: It may in its entirety never be able to identify network
CASE 2: t may be able to identify only Edge and never 3G/LTE
CASE 3: Depending on the oil on your head, It may just be able to identify all of the required i.e. EDGE, 3G and LTE which is most times not the case

While I may need to remind you and every one else that you may do well to sow the seed of the charging block into family and friends' life in Nigeria and come only with the USB cord if you are so much emotionally attached to your charger like we do to 'follow come'. The charging block will not match the receptacle type used in Canada

You require a visa to enter the US if you are a Nigerian citizen. If you renew in Nigeria, you you get a 2-yr visa. If you do it here after you arrive, you get a 10-yr visa which means you don't ever likely have to renew again as you would have become a citizen within that period so that might be a better option for you. Having said that though, you still need to convince the consular officers here to issue you a visa, as it is not automatic for Canadian PRs to get US visas.

You cannot enter the US even on transit without a valid US visa despite you being a canadian PR. You may take the chance of coming to attend the interview in canada for your renewal. If you do your renewal in canada you are sure to get 10 years. good luck.

May I know if it's possible to leave my money in my Nigeria account because I'm about to land and yet to get dollars as it's scarce and the BDC guys keep hiking the exchange rate. 1. How can I access my money when I eventually land.
2. Does anyone need naira and will give me Canadian dollars on landing.
3. Has anyone travelled without Dollars and accessed the money.
4. Does GTB MasterCard work in Canada.
5. If there's anyone with dollars that wants to sell at a good rate kindly send me a email.

Had same concern before I came. What I did is, I went to my bank (Zenith) was told to write a kinda letter to activate my usage of my card in foreign country. I did that. And ever since I came I have withdrawn a couple of times with my naira debit mastercard. So, so long as it is a MasterCard it can be used here, either to pay for goods or services with POS or withdraw from an ATM machine. It will just do the conversion for you and give you the Canadian dollar equivalence. But find out from other Banks of yours is not Zenith bank. But they charge like $3 each time I withdraw with the ATM.

You can find shared accommodation off campus for 500-600 hundred per month (own room, kitchen shared). Or you can get a 1 bedroom for yourself for 1k plus per month. Transport you could get a student discount for maybe $80 per month I think. Those who use the bus in the Ottawa area can answer that. As for food, you should have access to the food bank which would reduce your food costs. Hope this helps.

You're part of the 1st world now. Wait till you reach Canada. The high rejection rate doesn't apply to Canadian citizens or PR.

Have tried getting PTA? Access Bank gave PTA for PR in June. You have to be about 2 weeks from your travel date or so. If its not too late that could also help.

My wife's Techno phone didn't work with the Koodo mobile. But my phone from Nigeria did, a Gionee phone. So there is a possibility that it may not work it the Koodo mobile. Except you may want to try and see or opt for other networks.

You won’t be rejected because you are a potential Canadian PR holder. However, they will give you only 2 years. On the other hand, if you land, you get 10 years US Visa.

Same with UK visa. If you apply from Nigeria, they will give you only 6 months.

I am guessing you're in Alberta?

What you can do is keep a clean driving record as you go forward and also get your home premium on the same plan for a discount.
Alternatively (this one is funny), you can move to Saskatchewan. Auto insurance is subsidized by the Govt. of Saskatchewan and is pretty cheap compared to other provinces. Same car you have right now might get you a monthly insurance of between $100 - $140 in SK.

In the London and Middlesex area, we have the busing website which can help you determine what schools your address is eligible to attend and whether or not the students will be eligible for busing or will have to walk to school. You may also check if there's one and that can help with making a decision.
