To Move Back From America Or Not... by Itiswellblessed: 1:17am On Nov 22, 2018 |
Hi guys Here is my story....moved to the states four years ago together with my 2 kids. Still do not have my papers and it's getting frustrating. Thinking of moving back to nigeria but I think I could do with some advice right now as I don't want to make a rash decision. Reasons I might want to stay back My kids are in school (elementary) which of course is free I have a job that I do under the table My kids and I have access to good health care even though we don't have all the coverage...... Reasons I want to move back to Nigeria My families are back home Accommodation won't be an issue for me as I'll have access to one should I return I kind of want the naija life and the freedom it brings with it.... And some other more reasons Here lies my dilemma. Will I be selfish to move back and not think of my kids having access to better life here How am I sure I could secure a good paying job with all the sad stories I read daily here? The life here is kind of lonely as its almost everybody stay your lane... Pls your suggestions will be highly appreciated and pls also, no insult. Be polite with your replies Thank you. 9 Likes 1 Share |

Are u moving back because of your inability to legalise your stay or because you can’t cope with the lonely Lifestyle of the west ?? That will help us understand your case properly. And also forget about going home to look for a job, that will be hard with all these stories in the news. If your undertable job can give u some savings, while not start thinking of the job u can create for yourself.... 5 Likes |

femijck:I'll say both plays a factor cos I feel if I had legalized my stay, I would have been going in and out of the country. Thanks for the advice. I'll start looking into that. But I feel I'm bad at business; tried once and it failed woefully. 1 Like |

Itiswellblessed: Well I'm happy that you are being honest about your situation. Are your kids citizens? If not then both you and them may face being banned from the U.S if you leave. With this current climate, it can hard to stay here without papers. You are going to have to think really hard about this. I know people who have been in your situation, although they did not have kids, some went back to their home country while others immigrated to other western society. 9 Likes 1 Share |

Itiswellblessed: Hmmm, this is not looking good. First of all are you single or married with kids? If you are single then you might want to find love in the right place that might help you get your status adjusted. Secondly, if the first option is impossible then I'll suggest just as Babyvet mentioned and that is to see if you can get another western country like Canada or Australia to move to where you can obtain PR status through a number of their PR immigrant programs. Leaving the US after overstaying while at the same time have worked illegally and at the same time have used government benefits that are mainly supposed to be used by US legal residents will trigger an automatic 10 years or more ban from ever entering into the US. If you still insist on leaving the US and not worry about the ban from the US then you might want to continue with your "under the table job" and use that avenue to save as much money as you can so that when you eventually move back to Nigeria you can use some of the savings to start up a small scale business that you know you can handle with minimum loss. 11 Likes 1 Share |

9JAFULLBREED:Lol at village people tactics, @Post, you have 2 options, either to genuinely look for iyawo and genuinely marry or move to Canada with the same iyawo option that is if you are divorced, do not bring your kids back to a shithole jungle, if eventually you get to canada, don't go for Aduro levels because Aduro don cast for Nigerians, genuine marriage is your way out 13 Likes |

Lol @village people... Until you remove naija from your options, you won't see the way forward...when there is a will, there is a way! Information is available you may just need to socialize and mingle more where you are. You will be surprised that the people you think are back home waiting for you will be on their way out of naija by the time you get back....with all these Canada Express entry and other options that so many people are presently embracing. Don't do what you may regret later. Like others suggested, if not US, try other developed countries...adjusting to naija life may be difficult for your kids after four years abroad. 5 Likes |

Itiswellblessed: is it possible for you to apply for Canadian express entry(permanent resident) visa from US? Why not try that. Coming back to Nigeria with your kids is not the best option for now. Nigeria is really hot now, unemployment is at its peak, bad roads, bad economy, decayed infrastructure , no stable electricity, etc. If you don't have any option still continue trying your luck in US till your kids grow old enough that they can feud for them self, then you can leave. please don't bring them now to Nigeria. Nigeria is not the best place to train a child. 7 Likes |

acorntree:With his / her current status now in the US, Canadian express entry is out of the equation, he / she is working under the table( cash), probably he arrived the US with a tourist visa, visa expires and he goes on a low profile gradually sorting himself / herself out, than coming back to hell fire he/she left behind 2 Likes |

AngelicBeing: eeeyaa, this one na double wahala! . then Is it possible for him to come back to Nigeria and then process the Canadian express entry visa? or once he is ban for overstaying in US it will affect his/ her chances of getting Canadian PR. |

Bro man to man, I'm gonna say you should consider 2 things, freedom and accommodation. Back home you're a free man, over there you'll be hiding under the table. Bro, set your target, save about N1million and head home. Set up a poultry or pigry immediately you land, this shouldn't stop you from applying to multiple jobs. If you don't wanna head back home, consider going to safe cities where you can hide and hustle, I heard jobs plenty in Alaska. 1 Like |

Babyvet:I think you have no clue about the Canadian skilled workers program, it is not just about having the funds alone, apart from the funds, she needs to submit a verifiable place of employment, get her document assessed amongst other requirements, from her narrative, she probably arrived with a tourist visa and she has not been able to adjust her status. Canada will dig into her details to find out more information about her and they sometimes request letters from her employer's either past or current employers, her current status and that will open up a can of worms, you definitely don't know about the express entry, go and read the requirements for the Canadian skilled workers program and stop your jugunu advice 18 Likes |

Itiswellblessed: This brings another twist to your story.... I know of some women with children in the US that have been able to file for asylum even in this Trump era. Most started the process not long after arriving though. I'm not sure if it's still possible since you have overstayed your Visa. You can look into this option. It would also require funds and most likely a lawyer. Another option is for your husband (if he is still in the picture) to process the Canada Express entry as the primary applicant. He can start the process even if he is in Naija and when it clicks you and the children will arrange how to join him. These are just suggestions based on the information you have provided so far. All the best! 1 Like |

Itiswellblessed: Okay, it looks like your mind has kind of been made up that going back to Naija is not your favorite option at this time. Also, I hope your kids are US citizens so that they too dont end up dealing with the same struggles you are dealing with now when they become adults to be left behind. I still believe that there are ways you can still legalize your status in the US even though it might be a very difficult task to go through. A number of options that comes to mind is through employment of some kind or even through marriage if you're still single. I dont think your claiming asylum to gain legal status will be that easy at this time due to the fact that you've already overtstayed your presence in the US going to almost four years or so now. 1 Like |

Beautyaddy: Thank you. I'm actually still open to both options. No my kids are not citizens and seeking Asylum is no longer available to me as if you want to seek Asylum, it has to be within your first year in the states. I'm past that already so I can't seek Asylum. Just trying to weigh both options cos I don't want to move back now and regret it later. |
