Freedem: If the rate never appreciates to 600, then the guy is screwed.. Mind you the dollar has been devalued by 222 naira over the period of 15 years , that's enough time to make a profit. If you look at the graph , you will see dips that you can capitalize on to make a profit.. The people who scream inflation act like it's a compounding phenomenon.. eg Inflation maybe 12% this year and 17% next year , that's only an increase of 5%, whereas your total interest on tb if your yearly average is 14%, means a total of 28% in two years ..that's s profit of 23%. As have been expressed earlier nobody knows what the exchange rates will look like , it may go up, but in the interim there's lots of opportunities to make a profit.. Need I remind you that Somalias currency has gained significant value over the last 5 years , so it can happen. I need to understand this please. See this scenario. If inflation rate is 12% this year and in 2019 its 14%. That's 2% rise. If I do t bills at 15% in 2019, does it mean that I gained 13% because of 2% rise. Or that I gained 1% because inflation is 14% in 2019. Gonfreecss1 Feelamong Ahiboilandgas Nl1960 Zamirikpo Acidosis Realityshot Et al |

Jennypharb1: it's normal, that's how interest is calculated. the 10.5% is per annum which means you have to leave your 3.6m with the bank for 1yr to get that 10.5%. if you leave it for 91days, that's a quarter of a year which means you're going to get 2.5% on your 3.6m 2 Likes |

Yem0350:Spot on, I guess people always forget that t-bills and some other forms of investment requires no significant time investment. On the other hand, not only are most businesses riskier, they require significant time investment. Finance 101 says the higher the risk, the higher the return, so business paying off more is nothing special. Along the same lines, diversification is great. I mean anyone who has taken Finance classes knows that diversification is an almost sure way to hedge the risk of your investment but there is much more to it. You cannot diversify with portfolios that are positively correlated, by that, I mean you cannot diversify using Nigerian t-bills and Nigerian bond because when the Government defaults on one, the probability of defaulting on the other is as close to 1 as they get. That's why I appreciate the comment from someone (can't search for the post and moniker now) that you should diversify in different currencies. But also remember that tracking different investments also requires time, so for some people, t-bills ONLY might be what they can and should do for now. Maybe when they become more informed and have more time, then they can diversify. Between, Finance is an amazing field and education to have. I'm loving studying it at a Masters level right now, wish I started earlier. 8 Likes |

sonshyne: Any luck with payment? I think you should check your calendar again. Next maturity date should be 29th/30th November, a day after auction date. Whatever people invest on the 28th November (next auction date) would be deployed for payment on the 29th/30th November (next maturity date). Tbills is an upgraded version of MMM with lower interest rate. NB: I'm not 100% certain about the above claims. |

Diyke4rich: This arguement of House over treasury Bills will always be there, incidentally no one will win as it all depends on context. I personally will not do any house rentals as business. I would only support building the house I live in with the returns from my TBills Investment. In the past 5 years we have gotten a average return of 15-16% perannum on our Tbillls investment. I doubt any rentals from house will match that. 8 Likes 2 Shares |

Diyke4rich: It depends on what you want. There are people who liked to be called landlords (aka baba landlord) even if they are not really making money from their properties. Once you have a property, almost everybody in your family knows and they know when you collect the rent and that is when each and everyone of them will start coming with his/her problems for you to solve for them. If you say, you do not have, they will say 'shebi you just collect rent'. Before you know it, the money is finished with you wondering what you used the money for. That is when it suddenly dawn on you that the next rental is at least 11 months away. With TB, nobody knows if you have money. If they come around, na you go first cry say the country hard. Once you first cry, they will no longer be bold to tell you their problems. They will just say 'please just help me with anything'. Na so you go just give the person small thing from your TB upfront interest to help the person. 4 Likes |
