NIGERIA STOCK MARKET GENERAL COMMENT/MSCI NIGERIA PORTFOLIO MOVEMENT - FOR 22 NOVEMBER 2018

MSCI portfolio is still on holiday as at yesterday, no movement in the portfolio.

During my scan, I came across Airlines Services (up trending stock), but overbought another Oscillator is indicating that the strength is now weakening by showing red. Looking at the current price of NGN7.00 the probability of immediate upward movement in price is low due to the illiquid nature of the equity compared with FBN, Access and UBA which are in the same price range. I consider it worthwhile to staking looking for opportunities in these 3 banking stocks instead of staking my money in Airline Services.

Next time I will give reason why I will not buy “Caverton” immediately despite the fact that the company will have a good financial result by the 31st December year end.

For this Friday 23 November 2018 expected High is 32,011.25 low at 31,946.43

Caution: This is for information purpose only. Data used are assumed to be correct. However, you may want to verify the data from an appropriate source. Also, Institutions can afford to suffer big losses without going burst compared with an individual, you cannot follow them blindly (you need to at least have some knowledge/your own plan).
N:B

1. Due to the fact so many new people are coming to this forum and may not know this use of following the “big monies that move markets”, I will be indicating why/how to use the information. This will be a permanent future of my post to reduce some comments which may prevent the people that understand the system from confusion by people who have not followed how this started. My comment for today for anybody who doubts the efficacy of following the fund is to look at my recent recommendations for the past 2 months.

2. The fund will still hold some equity, the terms of service states this. Thus no matter the condition of the market, it will not liquidate to Zero. This is an equity fund investing in the Nigeria market.

3. You cannot bear losses like the fund. The pocket of the fund is too deep. Therefore, as an individual you are not suppose to be in the market during the stock market crash. Before or during the crash, reduce your holding.

4. If you are seeing this type of data on MSCI for the first time. You may need to verify the figures. Go to my previous posts (https://www.nairaland.com/yok/posts), you will see the various sources where the data can be verified.

As long as a bank is in the business of extending credit facilities to its customers, loans provisioning will never stop.

Bad debt and provision for loans are two separate things. The banking prudential guidelines make certain basis to provide for loans, either it is performing or not. In recent times IFRS has also made the provisioning to be wider than it was before. A debt becomes bad when the individual or corporate entity who was given loan is unable to repay the loans after the terms agreed by both parties. So it is the provisioning that comes first, then it becomes bad and the bank will now decide to write off.

Banks give out loans out of the deposit made by the depositors or loans sourced from international finance agencies. So when loans go bad and it is written off, the depositors will still have to be paid. Provisioning will have to occur when the loan is impaired.

Thanks,

So provisioning is like a savings account (insurance)? From which the bank keeps part of its profit to payback depositors. Meaning the money is not totally lost until loan is impaired.

Help correct my reasoning / statements above please.

Who determines what to provision? Is it CBN or the bank?

House,
I have been using Fidelity as my brokerage firm. How do I find out if my accrued dividends from my shares are debited to my bank account, as I haven't been able to see any on my statements? By the way, am not based in Nigeria, but will be visiting Nigeria before the end of the year. I have the CHN too.

Thank you

Did you mean dividend credited to your bank account?

why not ask your bankers for your bank statement, that should show all your credits and debits including dividend payments to you.
