Chief of the SA Army has already spoken about the threat posed from Mozambique. So they know about it. I would reckon South African Special Forces have already made a couple reconnaissance visits to the area.

@ highlighted, this is why the word "Contingency" came to exist. If Nigeria military makes any at all, they need to add "How do we strategize to take into consideration the provision of logistics to Bokoharam by France and or other External powers as well as betrayals within our army and coalition members and nations.

If, so far, we left some things to chance because we couldn’t muster the effort to consider and act upon them or because of financial consideration, we cant do so any longer.

The Nigerian Air Force only has changed 3 different types of weapons alone in 6 years. They bought Tavor-21, Beryl and Arsenal M1.

The service has received or placed orders for nearly 70 different types of aircrafts in the last 6 years.

What is happening with the Nigerian military, budget after budget, yet these Boko-Haram guys can sack you from your bases?

Gbam! I’ve Been repeating this for days, trooops gathering in a certain position waiting on order for deployment from high above doesn’t automatically turn that place into a “base”

And majority of the KIA soldiers from the video were wearing tee shirts, and flip flops indicating they were relaxed. An helicopter (Augusta i think) cam around but was fired upon forcing it to leave.
I blame this ones on the solders there.

BHT has successfully attacked the Nigerian army over the past 6 months, it's well within the realm of possibilities to taunt the Nigerian army. This is what terrorist elements are known for, taunt friendly forces through any means possible.

The Premium times report quoting a soldier on the ground confirms this. I have no reason to doubt the report.

The soldiers were poorly prepared as has been the case for the last 6 months and paid dearly for it.

dont trained soldiers have emotions,dont trained soldiers have families? i have seen a lot of widows who lost their husbands to boko haram,i have been to army division and seen soldiers who have lost their legs,hands and cant even walk well bkus of bullet wounds with majority of them talking about lack of equipment and gear,even their allowance not been paid they suffer yet even without funding they strive to still fight yet people like you bash them I SWEAR YOU CAN NEVER KNOW HOW IT FEELS UNTIL YOU SEE THEIR SITUATION those that joined knew what they were doing they lay down the life to die in a well mannered way not to be wasted like animals

Boko Haram jihadists abducted around 50 loggers near the northeastern Nigerian town of Gamboru close to the border with Cameroon, civilian militia and residents told AFP Thursday.

The hostages who are mostly from a camp for people displaced by jihadist violence were on Saturday rounded up by fighters loyal to factional leader Abubakar Shekau while collecting wood at Bulakesa village, 25 kilometres (15 miles) from Gamboru in Borno state.

“The men were rounded up and taken away by Boko Haram insurgents and nothing has been heard from them,” militia leader Umar Kachalla said.





“Two of the loggers escaped and returned home and broke the news.

“We don’t have a precise number of those taken but usually the loggers move in a group of more than 50 men,” Kachalla said.

The loggers were encouraged to venture deep into the bush to collect firewood by a recent military operation that pushed the jihadists out of the area, another militia Shehu Mada said.

Last month troops dislodged the militants from the nearby town of Wulgo and surrounding areas following incessant attacks on loggers.

“The general assumption was that the insurgents had left the area only to suddenly appear and encircle the loggers,” Mada said.

Some of the loggers joined the team to collect metals from the shells of vehicles destroyed in the military offensive against the fighters, he said.

“We believe the number of the those abducted exceeds 50,” said Gamboru resident Babagana Musa.



The story was slow to emerge due to limited communications with Gamboru residents.

The area has for several years been without telecom facilities following the destruction of telecom masts in Boko Haram attacks, forcing residents to rely on Cameroon mobile phone networks.

Gamboru loggers have suffered repeated Boko Haram attacks and abductions especially around Wulgo forest which was a known Boko Haram hideout.

In April Boko Haram militants gunned down 18 loggers at the edge of Wulgo forest, 15 kilometres from Gamboru, while returning from collecting wood.

In January at least 31 loggers went missing and were believed to have been abducted by the jihadists near Wulgo, where 10 loggers were killed two weeks earlier.

While an overhaul is not in itself a completely bad Idea, the new incoming CO must have demonstrated excellent leadership in battle in times past.

But sadly, I doubt we have them in abundance. If we do, then maybe they are very few

Overhauling COs is not in itself the only solution though as I pointed out earlier
