Lool... The part I wonder about the most is... Their children will still bear their husband's name in the very end...

Not necessarily. Trent "Alexander-Arnold" is a fusion of both his father and mother's surnames

Same with Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain. Kyle Walker-Peters. Ruben Loftus-Cheek etc

This is one reason I can't stand over religious people, especially the men among them. Very manipulative creatures.

After fornicating, backbiting, lying... and all sorts. They wake up one day and select the part of the bible they want their wives to follow. When they were knacking her before marriage, they didn't remember bible verses o. I can only listen to the one that obeys the commandments to the letter, all others are total trash...

what do you mean by "knacking her" isn't sex a two way thing? didn't she also enjoy the sex or was she just laying there while the guy was knacking her? no be their two commit the fornication? I hate people that see sex as a favour to men from women...you need to grow up.

did you see anywhere in the Bible where women names were use in the genealogical history of the Israelite? the rules about respecting ones husbands name was so strict in the Bible that a certain Naomi and her late son wife had to keep her late husband name so they can raise children from another man to keep the family name and our Lord Jesus came out of that lineage. respecting ones husbands name was so important in the Bible where that if a man was to die childless, his brother is to meet with his wife to help raise children and the children will not be his but must belong to his late brother and they must bear his late brothers name.

I'm wondering what's the link between keeping your father's surname and rebelliousness? ?

Don't you know that this surname thing originated from the Norman French culture in the 10th century and then spread to the rest off the over the centuries?

Men like these make me ashamed to be a man undecided

JoKe Silva that has been married for decades to olu Jacobs, are they not a happy family?

Fathia Balogun that changed to her husband's name, how far with the marriage?

All ye dumbasses will be fretting and hyper ventilation over frivolous things undecided

And in the bible passages you quoted, what is the link between that and "name change"

Are you both expecting the Bible to expressly spell it out for you? It's the same thing as asking me to show you where the Bible says we shouldn't kill with a gun. You won't find such, but the Bible says "thou shall not murder".

Including your father's name to your husband's name shows lack of submission to the authority your husband has over you. Submit to your husband doesn't mean you can do whatever you like. It simply means submit in all things, name included. Failure to observe submission when it comes to name is the same as disobedience.

My dear, you don't want to know how much I hate people who think paying bride price is equal to owning a woman.

Is that guy mad??!!!
How much bride price did he pay?

Such a man needs more than growing up, he needs a total overhaul of his mental system!!

Did they even use surnames in the bible?

What is John the Baptist's surname?

Even Jesus did not have surname.

Moses did not have a surname

There is no scripture backing the taking of Surname of a man

Most of the prophets in the bible didn't even have surnames. Moses. Jesus. Etc

This is a hard pill to swallow for me. I'll say why.

I intend keeping my father's name just to honour the family. My father is the only man in his family and he has two daughters only. I'm the last.

Even if the name will die with me, I just want to keep it for that reason. At least, when I die, I wouldn't bother about the existence of that name and that's not foolish to me.

I'm the only biological child of my mum. Staying with her, I had a compound surname just to honour my step father because he's gotten no child of his.

I wouldn't want to go further but I think one should understand such scenarios.

I wouldn't condone anyone insulting my husband when I get married because he allowed me keep my father's name. For crying out loud, he will get married to me as an individual and not the name. Besides, his name will be the first or the major surname.

Though I haven't concluded if I will eventually use my husband's name solely or not but I think Our motives for doing some things should really be put into consideration.

Some have stories that can trash down some rules.

You people want to keep the tradition of paying bride price, but you don't want to keep the tradition of husband's name alone.

Isn't that double standard?

Op, can you do justice to this: 1 Timothy 5:8 KJV
But if any provide not for his own, and specially for those of his own house, he hath denied the faith, and is worse than an infidel.
...my take, isn't a man supposed to shoulder the financial responsibility of his household as against the modern trend of men waiting on a woman to contribute 50% of her earnings to take care of the family... isn't it contravening and dis-validating the total uptake of the man's name after marriage? Lazy men/ men with mercenarian tendencies are quick to ask for the woman's financial input in the family as a "right" for them not as a loving contribution when the chips are down...would it then be safe to conclude that if the woman is to totally drop her maiden name and adopt her husband's name she then automatically becomes the responsibility of her husband and such as when she was with her father and he totally was responsible to her well-being and upkeep, her man is to maintain or update that standard, yes? As buttressed by 1 Timothy 5 vs 8? There you have it 9j men, take good care of your wives, give them quality life and spend for them; it is your responsibility...marriage is not for boys but
men...R.E.S.P.O.N.S.I.B.L.I.T.Y! We will bear and keep your names alright while forfeiting our Fathers' names ...if we can do that, it should be pride for y'all to spend on your women not needing her to marry you and still contribute financially to yours and your family's upkeep wink

This is why I suggest History should be made compulsory in secondary schools. You know nothing about culture/tradition obviously.

Just like "white wedding", a woman switching to her husband's name is foreign.

That said, Bride price was started by you men. Men are the ones that sit and collect it all. Ego will not allow you all stop it, because you people must always have something to feel superior about.

Honestly I do wonder if some of you can exist as women. So insecure, despite how society has given you guys a higher standing...you people still fight over the pettiest of things. Jeez!!!!

with the rate of globalisation
over the decades, bride price will die a natural death in Africa

Jesus was called sin of David.

I gave a verse that warned against changing ancient landmarks. I also showed you all where the Bible said women should submit to their husband. Yet you are asking for a specific verse that says women shouldn't use their father's name alongside their husband's name. Is it not the same thing as justifying twerking done by ladies because the Bible doesn't specifically say anything on twerking? But you know quite well that twerking falls under sexual immoralities spoken of in the Bible. Using of hyphenated surname when married is against God's command that women should submit to their husband because you have failed to submit to his name.
