You quoted me first time, I ignored you because it was clear you never comprehended anything from the past posts.
You went ahead to quote me again. Now it is clear you want my attention and i will give it to you just this once.
Dont quote me again. I don't want your attention at all. Really don't need it for anything as I was referring to both of you guys going on about Liz and ieltsadv cos I felt it can be confusing for people looking for a way out. boco2126: On this IELTS issue...my two cents.
1. Stick to a FEW practice materials! The number of materials for IELTS that we see on a daily on this thread can be overwhelming. Try out only a few and stick to the one that resonates with you. Don't use ieltsliz, Jay, Cambridge, ieltsadvantage, road2ielts etc at the same time (some of these peope don't agree on the same approach and reading all can get really confusing). If you try one and it sits well with you, ditch others. Focus on that one and be a master of it. I almost got overwhelmed at some point, because l wanted to open every link or try every material l saw here. But l had to give myself brain oh.
2. Practise everyday. No excuses. Create the time. Even at work, you can use your lunch break to practise. Instead of listening to music or radio on your way to work, listen to your downloaded tips on writing, speaking, reading, listening. When walking down the streets, have an earpiece on (l hate this, but we can make sacrifices for one month abi?) and keep LISTENING. At weekends, practice speaking with your wife/husband, friend, son/daughter etc. Write out questions and tell them to ask you (under exam conditions). I finished a WHOLE 30 leaves notebook for listening practice (yeah l work an 8 to 5 and live on the mainland with my office on the island -remember, no excuses!). Always check your wrong answers and replay those portions and find out what you didn't hear properly. I used youtube for listening/speaking/reading.
3. There's this ielts expert too, one Ryan (cannot remember his surname) that l think is underrated. I used his tips for writing. He talks about 15 sentences max for writing. 3 paragraphs with 4 sentences and the closing paragraph should have 3 sentences. This keeps you in check and you already know what to write before the exam, all you will be waiting for on the ielts day is the topic given! I can share his materials if you drop your email address. For writing, write letter and essays! Don't read what someone else wrote. Write yours too. Some people practise writing by reading another's work -WRONG! write yours too and compare. Minimum letters to write on different topics - 10. Minimum essays - 20. Revise your work and look for better ways to reconstruct your sentences. I suggest you write with pencil on your exam day so you can erase if need be.
4. For reading - use youtube. It also has a timer, so practice using the time and don't stop the timer or pause the video. The easiest comprehension in reading are the first two. Spend less time there. Say 5 mins tops for each. You do not need to UNDERSTAND nada. Just look at the instructions (very important), then the questions, then scroll through the passages for the answers. You need all your time for the last two passages. They are more technical.
5. For speaking - Be confident, relaxed and know your basic english and introduction (see ieltsliz). See this as an interview. We all attend interviews don't we? I got a list of 42 likely cue cards from ieltsliz blog (l think she said they change it every 3 months but she always update the cue card questions) and l practiced the 42 different topics and l always set my two minutes timer with my phone. You can be in the BRT or your car and practice this one, or when walking down the street or whilst doing chores at home, or lying down in your bed doing nothing (l did this. Some days, people will think you are going crazy because you are talking to yourself, but...who no go no know). One of the 42 questions l practiced was my cue card during my speaking test -something on my pet animal (l was wondering "madam why me? Animal kwa?" but because l had practised earlier, the examiner had to cut me off when it was two minutes. I just went on and on.
4. Lastly and certainly not the least...the place of PRAYER. I'm catholic, so when l saw the prayer to St. Joseph of Cupertino here, l made a mental note to say it. I started saying it every day from September till i wrote my exam on the 1st of November. I even added a 9 days St. Joseph of Cupertino novena with prayer and fasting which ended on the 31st of October (l'm that extra oh. I left no chances). I asked my family to add me in their prayers too. So, pray, pray and pray. Whatever works for you. Someone dropped one St. prayer here on financial assistance for POF, best believe l'll look for that prayer and do it too!
5. People have done it, you too can. Don't be discouraged if you have tried more than once. We don't give up on this thread oh. Being here has taught me a different level of selflessness and never say never spirit. People you don't even know are quick to help and empathise and l am still in awe of you guys.
6. Please drop your email address so l can send the Ryan materials to you.
This too shall pass!
All the best everyone and my apologies for the long post.

NameUserNo: I am tired! It seems the only option is to give up right now. Firstly, i started by applying to Canadian schools but I was frustrated and never got admission from the four schools I applied to.
Then, I was advised on the canadian student visa thread to focus on express entry since I have the educational requirements and minimum work experience and I took that advise. I have written IELTS general six times in the last nine months and I am stuck at writing 6.5.
The only time I got a 7 in writing, i got a 7.5 in listening, which happens to be my only listening score less than 8. I have spent my salary and savings registering for ielts and ielts lectures since I began this process and yet no head way.
I have even completed WES evaluation because I was hopeful this will work out.
The last ielts I wrote November 10th, i was quite hopeful but came out the same way. Now I can't even register even if i want to.
I put so much efforts, sacrificed my welfare and I really don't know if i can push on anymore.
It seems this doesn't work for everybody. Best of luck to everyone on this thread. It shall end in praise for you all. Please mail me and lets discuss about your exams. Please do not give up now. You are the edge of your success. mail me at adegenty1@yahoo.com. Expecting your mail 2 Likes |

This was how I felt after 6th attempt. Passed on the 7th one. I am in my 7th month in Canada now. 2 years, 5 months to citizenship. It is tough. Take a break. Come back stronger. You will blame yourself if you give up more in the future. The most important thing now are prayers because there's little or more in terms of knowledge to add. Yea prayer works. Prayer to St. Joseph of Cupertino works. It did for me, it did for others. Be strong mate 87 Likes 2 Shares |

All the best everyone and my apologies for the long post.

bigfido:
This was how I felt after 6th attempt. Passed on the 7th one. I am in my 7th month in Canada now. 2 years, 5 months to citizenship. It is tough. Take a break. Come back stronger. You will blame yourself if you give up more in the future. The most important thing now are prayers because there's little or more in terms of knowledge to add. Yea prayer works. Prayer to St. Joseph of Cupertino works. It did for me, it did for others. Be strong mate Respect!! 3 Likes 1 Share |

Jasmine17: IELTS is a test of tricks. Thats why it is difficult for some because it requires intense practice and study from you. It is not completely a test of your English language skills.
Just like all trick tests, there is a marking scheme which must be complied with in other to pass the exam. For writing, you have to satisfy task response, cohesion and coherence, lexical resource and vocabulary (grammatical range and accuracy). Each of these carry 9 points and you only get the average as your final score of each task, and the average of both tasks as your final score.
So the aim is to learn the tricks ( which is peculiar to each person by the way) that you need to surmount the test and the only way you can learn the tricks is by practicing diligently to identify your flaws, then studying assiduously to device your tricks on how to overcome the flaws, then practicing well to master the devised tricks.
E.g., you know task 2 carries twice as much marks as task 1, meaning if you get a 9 in task 1 and 6 in task 2, your final score will be (6*2+9)/3=21/3=7. But if you get an 8 in task two and 7 in task one, your final score will be (8x2+7)/3=7.666. So common sense will tell you that it is more profitable (given time constraints) to start with task 2 and write it well for more marks.
This is just one of the various tricks you will discover through practice and review. If you dive in with your everyday knowledge and confidence of English, it is bound to fail. I agree with you 100%. You re in the know. It will end in praise IJN! 2 Likes 1 Share |

smslive2: So no PPR story and you people had to subject others to reading pages with these sort of arguments. Na wa o Bros, aha, don't say that na. See, this back and forth on IELTS is what some of our compatriots stuck on the IELTS hurdle have to read and be motivated or pick one or two points to scale through. Meanwhile, where have you guys been all these while? Bigfido, Jasmine et al. You guys just made sense in these past pages and you can't imagine how many people have been blessed by your time to break it down for the house. It will end in praise IJN! 15 Likes |

I'm so heartbroken, LRSW 8,8, 8.5,6. British Council has officially broken my heart. No BC slot in Ibadan for December, trying to decide MOD next month or BC January. I know it will end in praise 10 Likes |

Newmum0615: 2 weeks leave bawo? I didn't take any leave biko. It's not compulsory mbok. What matters is practice done whether during the weekends, at work or at anytime. Maybe not necessarily a week or two leave, but we can't overemphasise what these guys have been saying about practice, practice, practice. Just like you, during my time, I stayed back in the office 3 hours after close of work every day for 3 straight weeks to ace my 2nd attempt. It was a do or die affair! I really feel for people having great band scores in LSR, just to witness writing messing up such lovely scores. It's really sad. It will end in praise IJN! 2 Likes |
