Few months to the 2019 general elections, a coalition of Christian leaders under the aegis of National Christian Elders Forum has asked Nigerians not to vote for the All Progressives Congress and the Peoples Democratic Party, describing the parties as “two evils.”

The group also faulted the current political composition of Nigeria, saying it was structured to favour one ethnic nationality and the supremacy of one religion over others.

The National Chairman of the NCEF, Solomon Asemota (SAN), made the position of the group known during a press conference he jointly addressed with the NCEF Secretary and Chief Executive Officer of Christian Socialist Movement of Nigeria, Bosun Emmanuel.

NCEF has as members a former Minister of Defence, Lt. Gen. Theophilus Danjuma (retd.); Prof. Joseph Otubu, Gen. Joshua Dogonyaro (retd.), Archbishop Magnus Atilade, Dr Kate Okpareke, Dr Ayo Abifarin, Gen. Zamani Lekwot (retd.), Elder Moses Ihonde, Elder Nat Okoro and Elder Matthew Owojaiye.

Others are Justice Kalajine Anigbogu (retd.), Elder Shyngle Wigwe, DIG P. L. Dabup, Sir John Bagu, Dr Saleh Hussaini, Elder Mike Orobator, Justice James Ogebe (retd.), Dr Chukwuemeka Ezeife, Chief Debo Omotosho, Dame Priscilla Kuye, Dr S. D. Gani, Mrs Osaretin Demuren, and Prof. Yussuf Turaki.

Asemota said, “Nigerians must begin to clamour for new candidates and new political parties. It is not too late to mobilise and dismiss the current political class that devalued naira by over 1,600 per cent from 1999 to 2018 and, at the same period, increased the price of fuel by 625 per cent.

“Jointly, the PDP and the APC impoverished and pauperised Nigerians and turned the country into the poverty capital of the world. It makes sense to reject the two frontline parties, the APC and the PDP, for lack of credible performance.

“We are persuaded that the nation should feel compelled, within the next few months, to look in another direction for its salvation. If that is not done, Nigerians would have willingly jumped from the fire into the furnace. We are already sensitised as to what is ahead with the slogan – ‘two evils.’ NCEF is convinced that if Nigerians are truly desirous of good governance, then all Nigerians have need to be diligent to look outside of these two major parties.”

On the need to restructure Nigeria, he said, “The determination of a minority group to transform Nigeria into its colony is responsible for the chaos in the country.

“NCEF insists, in agreement with other well-meaning Nigerians, that restructuring the country must be a cardinal campaign issue for the 2019 elections. Therefore, the Christian elders emphasise the need to draw up a Charter of Agreement to be signed by presidential candidates to complete with timelines for implementation.

“This should be a major pre-condition for those soliciting votes from Nigerians. Of course, no promise from the current government should be taken seriously by anyone. NCEF shall draw up its Charter of Agreement and encourage other credible groups to do the same.”

The elders also expressed concern over what they described as the growing interference of security and intelligence arms of the executive in politics and elections, especially from 1999.

To check the menace, NCEF reminded Nigerians of the weapon of “public outcry” used to remove former President Ibrahim Babangida in 1993 and the PDP in 2015.

NCEF said, “Nigerians have need to raise political discourse to the level of an outcry such that the APC itself would realise, like Babangida and the PDP, that it has become unacceptable by an overwhelming majority of Nigerians for the lack of performance in critical areas of life and security.”

The NC has a very big grudge with the Fulanis... but they should judge people individually not based on tribe/religion....

Only a man/woman who marries outside his/her tribe can explain better.

Half baked press conference, OK we should not vote APC the tribal and religious bigotry, the incompetence and nepotism inclined party, the party that lack respect for rule of law, the party of denial and all the bad things put together.

We should also not vote for PDP whose name is synonymous to cheat, deceit, crime, mago mago and worse still CORRUPTION, these we all know are the attribute of pdp.

APC says pdp brought us into this mess, pdp says even the time she was plunging us into this mess we were better off.

Now this coalition did not even tell us who to vote for, we have 91 party contesting, some don't even have running mates, some have forgotten their social media account password, some don't have posters, I even saw Reverend king contesting for president from prison.

This is Nigeria........

Public groups are pouring out. This is a good sign. I don't know why Nigeria became so disorganized up to the point that no group can compel the people into public outcry.

Public outcry is the best weapon to destroy any political structure..

PDP ruled for 16yrs they plunged Nigeria into suffering.

APC has ruled for 3 & half years they've aggravated the situation of things in Nigeria.

I wonder why most Nigerians are still bent on voting for either of dis two. Nigerians want a better nation yet they act like fools by speaking fr D same two parties that toys with the destiny & future of the country.

How stupid can Nigerians be?

We all know APC & PDP consist of the same old recycled politicians who feeds off the docility & stupidity of Nigerians.

This same Nigerians were shouting not too young 2 run some months ago this same Nigerians are D ones now shouting Atiku, Buhari, Buhari, Atiku.

70+ senile old men who has already secured D future of their children & that of their great grandchildren.

85% of D current generation of Nigeria is daft & don't want the best for D country rather their love for a particular party/individual has clouded their judgement.

I've grown more determined to emigrate to D US I must leave this country.

I wonder how we reason in Nigeria. poverty has really blocked some people reasoning and mentality. we ought to have realized that all these politicians are the same either PDP or APC. They are just there to enrich themselves and their families. It's time we all gather as one body to fight this together.

Sending Buhari out is a statement from Nigerians we won't take nonsense from anyone. Two presidents sent packing after their first term is enough statement.

Later we would strengthen the third force

After many of them have been minsters, and operatives of the last governments they suddenly realized they are all evil.
Was Danjuma not Minister of Defense when Odi and Zaki Biam residents were massacred under government orders?

How many of them have collected contracts and legal briefs from the past governments? Even the lying pastor Bosun Emmanuel, who said we will all be forced to become Muslims if Buhari is elected is part of the charade. Right now, i know a number muslims who have become Christians in the last 3 years, i don't personally know any christian who has become muslim even willingly.

The retired Generals, Theophilus Danjuma and Joshua Dongoyaro thought Nigerians has forgotten so soon how they plundered Nigeria when they were in power, during one of Nigeria's darkest days. Since they're as they claim to, they should tell us the party to vote for.

Hateful elders, imagine the types of General Zamani Lekwot who mobilized murderers and stormed a Friday prayer in Zangon Karaf killing young and old Hausas/Fulanis and every Muslim in sight coming to form a Christian Elders forum. The fact that he walks freely is even an insult to the dead and the entire Muslims in Nigeria, but what am I even saying?
