The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, has denied receiving N10million donation from Kano State governor, Abdullahi Ganduje, to organise anti-corruption marathon.

Earlier today, a statement by the Mr Ganduje’s spokesman, Aminu Yassar, said the governor had donated the money to EFCC, ICPC and Athletic Federation of Nigeria for the anti-corruption campaign.

But in a swift reaction by the spokesman for the EFCC, Tony Orilade, the commission distanced itself from receiving any donation from the state governor.

“The attention of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, has been drawn to a trending story in the social media concerning a purported statement credited to the media aide of the Kano State governor to the effect that the Commission got a N10 Million donation from the state government.

“The story is not falsehood, but a deliberate attempt to malign the efforts of the Commission in the fight against corruption.

“For the records, it is a tradition that the EFCC does not receive donations from state governors/government or any individual at that.

“The EFCC, as a reputable anti-graft agency is sponsored by federal government through budgetary allocation and in some cases, foreign organisations in terms of capacity building.

“It is true that the Commission, in collaboration with the Independent Corrupt Practices and other Related Crimes, ICPC and the Athletic Federation of Nigeria, AFN and other stakeholders is organizing the first National Anti-Corruption Marathon.

“Mr. Jacob Onu, the leader of the National Anti-Corruption Marathon had in the course of his visit to the Commission a fortnight ago told the Acting Chairman and his management about the marathon which he said is being planned in tandem with the International Anti-Corruption Day which usually comes up on December 9 every year.

“He said it was aimed at raising national consciousness on the scourge and danger of corruption to the country and the need for all and sundry to join hands to eradicate it.

“It is therefore very shocking to read of a purported donation of N10 million to the Commission.
“The story is not only unfounded but very mischievous.

“For the avoidance of doubt, no state governor or some other individual or group has donated any amount of money to the EFCC to carry out the Anti-corruption Marathon project or any other project for that matter,” the statement read.

"President Muhammadu Buhari......has mentioned that Kano State governor, Umar Ganduje is a responsible leader despite allegations of the governor receiving bribes putting his position in question...."
https://lailasnews.com/ganduje-is-a-responsible-leader-buhari
Of course emboldened by the afore endorsement by his mentor in corruption, Gov.Ganduje ridiculously proceeded to warm his way some more into the government that gave him the leeway by coercing the Kano HOA to suspend his investigation & abuse of the judicial process by offering part of the dollar bribe largesse to appease the supposed independent anti-corruption agencies of government that are mandated but unexplainably refused to probe his dollar bribe scandal.

Haba why EFCC come de grandstand?

It is just a procedural error on the part of the governor/state govt. A diligent enquiry by the state govt as to the proprietary of such gesture to the EFCC would have obviated such mistake. AFN should be given all the money as they are the organizer.

Stop talking bullshit! angry Guess you think the horrid corruption of this APC government or agencies under it just started today? Perhaps you need an endless catalogue of them.

A Magu-EFCC chair that wore an emblem of Buhari to official functions is the one you expect not to be partisan or involved in a "procedural error" in a govt that have never hidden it santimonious stands

And Gov.Ganduje informed you that he is not in his right thinking senses when he denied clear video evidence of his dollar-bribe taking, obtaining a frivolous court injunction against his probe by the Kano HOA, or when he offered EFCC the said money?

Meanwhile why didn't the EFCC overtly reject the offer when Ganduje first offered it giving they fully know the man is enmeshed in a sensational dollar bribe scandal?

Don't come to public forum to embarrass yourself.

You need to grow up. Even you, a common PDP minion won't think of bribing EFCC Chairman with N10m, Such amount can only ensure you access to the EFCC gatekeeper.

Magu's EFCC gaffes and overt biasness is an understatement.Ask him about his ignoble role in the arms probe scandal whose released & unreleased reports were disbanded by the president on discovering the calibre of persons it implicates.

Those who brings termites invested firewood into their house, house should not complain if they are visited by lizards.
The present EFCC is partial, and ncompetent and. Things have gotten so rotten that we now have to go to court to compel EFCC to investigate corruption.
It is not a dramatic irony that Ganduje even have the gut to claim that he donated money to EFCC!

Stop malingering. The issue isyour unnecessary criticism of Magu for rejecting Ganduje's 10 mila. Where and to whom was the money offered? Here is an excerpt from Cable news report on same issue

The administration of Abdullahi Ganduje, governor of Kano state, has donated N10 million to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and other agencies organising the National anti-corruption marathon.

The EFCC collaborated with the Independent Corrupt Practices and other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) and Athletic Federation of Nigeria (AFN) to organise the programme in honour of President Muhammadu Buhari.

Ganduje announced the donation when he received members of the main organising committee in Abuja.
- the Cable

From the above, it can be seen that
1. The 10m naira was given to the joint organizing committee
2. The joint OC consists of officials of EFCC, ICPC, and AFN
3.Protocols demands that the head of an agency or body should be the one to reject an inappropriate offer/gift that is presented to it by a high ranking personality like a governor.
4. No where it was stated that Magu was part of the organizing committee that visited Ganduje so he couldn't have had the privilege of acting on the spot.

See what you wrote "Meanwhile why didn't the EFCC overtly reject the offer when Ganduje first offered it giving they fully know the man is enmeshed in a sensational dollar bribe scandalm"

Try and think some issues through before commenting. That you are Atikullating shouldn't result in losing your intellect. Most importantly always try to read beyond the topic of an article.

It's not the quantity but quality of work done. There is motion without movement while the empty barrel makes the loudest noise. This is the situation with Magu.

EFCC media propaganda trials have been it hallmark with so much spectacular failures under Festus Keyamo that Magu is now going shamelessly selective by asking the CJN about which judges he wants to handle the agencies case in court or otherwise.

Losing high profile corruption cases it could have easily bootstrapped. You win cases by presenting incontrovertible evidence & not expects a sound judge to give you victory on a platter of gold.
