I just found that even if you are going the custom rom route on a Xiaomi device, you're not entirely free from MIUI, periodically you will need to flash a folder called firmware updates from MIUI rom updates, failure to do so may make your Xiaomi device to have bugs that make the phone unusable or even prevent booting. Normally rom makers have a work around for senarios like this but nothing beats OEM support. On the surface this may look like a bad thing but it's actually a blessing because Xiaomi are known to support their devices for long like Apple even if their devices only get a maximum of 2 android OS upgrade. A major problem Android phones have is long term support, custom ROMs can't really solve that problem because they only update top level Android system environment, the underlining firmware is as exactly as the Android OEM left it n so really isn't secure as you would assume. Xiaomi deserve over accolades for their support of device 7 Likes 1 Share |

Adegbem01: It depends on the condition of the small generator which i guess you mean this Tiger 950? Whether small or big generator, if it's faulty, it can still damage your charger or any of your appliances. Go ahead and charge your phone whether with small or big generator but ensure that the voltage doesn't exceed 220-240v. 1 Like |

Eeechenmeelee1:firmware is generally for sensors, and modems mostly, it's nothing serious. Doing firmware updates with custom roms now will likely cause more harm than good with the advent of ARB. The tangible part of updates comes from the rom updates itself which is in form of monthly security updates or Android O.S version updates. Custom roms now support more than top level Android System self their is something called vendor also. In short custom roms offer more than it used to few years ago due to advances in Android |

Eeechenmeelee1:This is not so true. I used a galaxy s4 last year, despite being four years old, it was constantly receiving performance and security updates. Security update is a must for Android OEMs now. So you are wrong sir. |

Hey guys I'm giving away a Redmi 6 pro 9H tempered glass screen, my agent bought the wrong glass screen, I use a note 6 pro, not 6 pro. if you are in Lagos or SA send me a pm, you must have proof that you have the phone before I give it out. 1 Like

acekid109:You and 1 are saying the same thing, firmware updates provide drivers for display panels, modems, sensors etc ie underlining environment n technology is always improving, the qaulity of said firmware updates usually improve with time as long as the OEM still supports the device. As for ARB, it's not a mandatory for devices launching with anything before pie, there is an actual thread on XDA about an automated way of generating firmware updates from official MIUI rom updates for nearly every Xiaomi phone with custom rom support. Recent advances in Android development still have a limit to what it can do with respect to devices that don't strictly follow Google's recommendation |

Eeechenmeelee1:android is getting standardized bro, ARB started with oreo not pie, if you don't follow this standard you can't release an android oreo phone, look at project treble also, new Android phones now have to meet this standards before it gets released, talking about firmware updates also in terms of display and co, that's where vendor partition comes in place in keeping it separate from the main os itself, all new custom roms now have there own vendor partition. There's no way you release a new phone now without following Google recommendation. The time of you needing to necessarily flash firmware is over except the rom explicitly needs it |
