Hello guys! Trust you are all doing good. Being a student is an entirely whole phase of an individuals life. Just like marriage, working amongst others. This phase in every individuals life i very important to ones future and dreams. Well these may not be very helpful to those out of school already but hey!, They've got siblings, relatives or friends and will indirectly benefit from this.

Here is a list of five things we should do before leaving school. These however may not work for everyone but at least it for for a number of people. Below comes the fast five points:

*MAKE FRIENDS: no one is an island or created to be solitary. Even the first created man, Adam had a partner and wife, Eve, after he had spent years staying alone. However, this does not mean I do not recognise the fact that being alone sometimes is good in other to just reflect, think and or for just being alone sake. In other words, being in school is just one of the several avenues to make friends, well with more emphasis, friends with benefits! It is not the number of friends that we have that matters but rather the types.

Like the popular sayings "show me your friends, and I will..." Having friends will help share ideas, assist one another, and share opportunities where they show up. Being friends shouldn't be a self centered thing or a parasitic relationship but rather a mutual benefit just as stated earlier "friends with benefits"

So go to make friends but reasonable ones. Those that will push you to your dream and goals, those that will get mad at you when you do the wrong thing(s), those that will celebrate you when you achieve a feat, those that will correct you when you are wrong, those that will make you smile when you are down amongst other good qualities.

*GET INVOLVED: As stated earlier, no one is an island. Isolation is not a characteristic feature of man except where it is for a course or very much needed. Being in school is one of the ways to get involved in beneficial activities and groups recognised by the school management. As stated earlier, this is not 100% for the whole populace however for a good number of people it does. Get involved in politics (at highest level, faculty/school, department), join activities of religious bodies, committees, or even NGOs if you've got the opportunity. This will help you build a lot of things like network, teamwork, Leadership skills and others. As much as this is also important, it is not a thing for everyone. But if this is you, then let the wait be over!

*BUILD A REPUTATION: Merriam Webster defines reputation as "the common opinion that people have about someone/something". Being in school is one of the life phases in life to build a worthy reputation. Right now, you'll begin to think what You're already know for. Is it activism, parties, getting things done, trouble making, impatient individual, shy and gentle, questionnaire, scholar, ego, laziness, chastity, pervert, fashionista and the list goes on.

These qualities will determine quite a number of things that may come to an individual, be it opportunities, or even recommendations. Well, most of us may just think, let's just study and leave but don't just do that, Create a good memory that you'll be remembered for and or that may be used to describe you years to come.

*DEVELOP A SKILL: In a later post "FALLACIES ABOUT MEDICAL/DENTAL STUDENTS", I'll mention "lack of skill" which is one of the usual wrong notions about medical students. However, the deal here is about developing a dexterity either the one you have innate nature for or the one you'll learn.

Anywhichway, just develop any skills along with your course of study, it may either be useful now or later. But I dare to say this, there is hardly any thing learnt that will not be useful for yourself Bor someone else either directly or indirectly. There are varieties of things one could do, follow your interest or like.

*MAKE IMPACT: Makng impact and specifically positive impact. Not everyone can make impact and in fact it doesn't have to be a laudable one. It could be with the positions held, the committee(s) one belongs to it even as individual.

However, trying to make  impact shouldn't be for the sake of fame or recognition which would ordinarily come when people feel the effect of what you're doing. However, don't brag about it when you're lucky to have one, don't look down in others and remain your humble self.

Making contributions can help build your present and future profile as well as some points listed above. But hold on, it's no do or die affair. Not everyone would.

I hope this points have been helpful. see you around!
