On this IELTS issue...my two cents.

1. Stick to a FEW practice materials! The number of materials for IELTS that we see on a daily on this thread can be overwhelming. Try out only a few and stick to the one that resonates with you. Don't use ieltsliz, Jay, Cambridge, ieltsadvantage, road2ielts etc at the same time (some of these peope don't agree on the same approach and reading all can get really confusing). If you try one and it sits well with you, ditch others. Focus on that one and be a master of it. I almost got overwhelmed at some point, because l wanted to open every link or try every material l saw here. But l had to give myself brain oh.

2. Practise everyday. No excuses. Create the time. Even at work, you can use your lunch break to practise. Instead of listening to music or radio on your way to work, listen to your downloaded tips on writing, speaking, reading, listening. When walking down the streets, have an earpiece on (l hate this, but we can make sacrifices for one month abi?) and keep LISTENING. At weekends, practice speaking with your wife/husband, friend, son/daughter etc. Write out questions and tell them to ask you (under exam conditions). I finished a WHOLE 30 leaves notebook for listening practice (yeah l work an 8 to 5 and live on the mainland with my office on the island -remember, no excuses!). Always check your wrong answers and replay those portions and find out what you didn't hear properly. I used youtube for listening/speaking/reading.

3. There's this ielts expert too, one Ryan (cannot remember his surname) that l think is underrated. I used his tips for writing. He talks about 15 sentences max for writing. 3 paragraphs with 4 sentences and the closing paragraph should have 3 sentences. This keeps you in check and you already know what to write before the exam, all you will be waiting for on the ielts day is the topic given! I can share his materials if you drop your email address.
For writing, write letter and essays! Don't read what someone else wrote. Write yours too. Some people practise writing by reading another's work -WRONG! write yours too and compare. Minimum letters to write on different topics - 10. Minimum essays - 20. Revise your work and look for better ways to reconstruct your sentences. I suggest you write with pencil on your exam day so you can erase if need be.

4. For reading - use youtube. It also has a timer, so practice using the time and don't stop the timer or pause the video. The easiest comprehension in reading are the first two. Spend less time there. Say 5 mins tops for each. You do not need to UNDERSTAND nada. Just look at the instructions (very important), then the questions, then scroll through the passages for the answers. You need all your time for the last two passages. They are more technical.

5. For speaking - Be confident, relaxed and know your basic english and introduction (see ieltsliz). See this as an interview. We all attend interviews don't we? I got a list of 42 likely cue cards from ieltsliz blog (l think she said they change it every 3 months but she always update the cue card questions) and l practiced the 42 different topics and l always set my two minutes timer with my phone. You can be in the BRT or your car and practice this one, or when walking down the street or whilst doing chores at home, or lying down in your bed doing nothing (l did this. Some days, people will think you are going crazy because you are talking to yourself, but...who no go no know). One of the 42 questions l practiced was my cue card during my speaking test -something on my pet animal (l was wondering "madam why me? Animal kwa?" but because l had practised earlier, the examiner had to cut me off when it was two minutes. I just went on and on.

4. Lastly and certainly not the least...the place of PRAYER. I'm catholic, so when l saw the prayer to St. Joseph of Cupertino here, l made a mental note to say it. I started saying it every day from September till i wrote my exam on the 1st of November. I even added a 9 days St. Joseph of Cupertino novena with prayer and fasting which ended on the 31st of October (l'm that extra oh. I left no chances). I asked my family to add me in their prayers too. So, pray, pray and pray. Whatever works for you. Someone dropped one St. prayer here on financial assistance for POF, best believe l'll look for that prayer and do it too!

5. People have done it, you too can. Don't be discouraged if you have tried more than once. We don't give up on this thread oh. Being here has taught me a different level of selflessness and never say never spirit. People you don't even know are quick to help and empathise and l am still in awe of you guys.

6. Please drop your email address so l can send the Ryan materials to you.

This too shall pass!

All the best everyone and my apologies for the long post.

Please I need the material. Send to Ifeanyi.ifebi@gmail.com

Thanks.

Interesting analysis.

I disagree with the bolded though. The reason September was slow and MEP since then is now average 4wks and not 2wks was the reduction of ITA expiration date from 3 months after ITA to 2 months.

September was the month when both June and July ITAs expired. That's 4 rounds of draws for a total of 15,000 ITAs.

I think CIC is comfortable with 4wks before MEP. If they become dissatisfied with the time-frame, it is easier to increase the submission deadline back to 90 days than to reduce the service delivery standard of 6 months processing for 80% of applications (huge political implications) or to reduce number of ITAs issued (immigration targets will make that difficult).

After all it was just in November 2016 that the deadline was originally raised from 60 days to 90 days.

Tojued:
%age statuses by month as per Immitracker. Based on my past experience on reaction to this post will start with following disclaimer points cheesycheesy

September is another proof of real slowdown .. At end of 2 months June was 14%, July was 11% and August was 11%. Compared to this September is at just 3%. September also saw MEP move from about 12/14 days post AOR to ~28 days post AOR. So a little slowdown was expected. But this is too much.

My guess is sooner or later CIC will have to update their website and change that 6 month number. It will get more and more difficult to justify that number in 2019.

I have no strong views on the analysis. But it does seem like they're struggling to keep up with that six month benchmark. Processing times are waaaaay longer this year in comparison with last year. Has capacity increased in line with the increased targets? The six months is an automatically calculated average.

On struggling to keep up, yes it seems slower from anecdotal evidence, but we don't have the full picture, only CIC does and they are not sharing.

Yes, capacity seems to have increased. I recently saw the annual staff strength of IRCC over the past 5yrs and it has increased, though marginally not exponentially and it was not stated what capacity was allocated to express entry.

The 6 months is both a political target and an actual value. The service delivery standard is the processing of 80% of applications by 6 months or less. The actual value is calculated and updated regularly on Canada.ca. As long as they are aligned, CIC will believe everything is alright and it is for them.

The standard of 6 months processing was implemented by Conservatives in March 2015. I can bet you that if Hon. Hussen tries to raise it, Conservatives will be all over his ass. The Conservative immigration critic is one tough lady.

Nigeria schools can frustrate people.

I paid for ECA with ICES on the September 14th, meanwhile I have paid for my school to send my B.Sc transcript to ICES since August 21.

After frustrating my life, I paid for email and courier (I don't want any long story)the school finally sent the transcript on October 24th and ICES received the email immediately and then received the courier on November 7.

The 10 weeks waiting IS KILLING ME NOW, seeing that my school wasted a lot of time sending ordinary transcript. I am currently at 6weeks since email sent and 5 weeks since they received the courier and I'm depressed already.

please have any of you received your ECA from ICES recently? and how long did it take from when the received your transcript from your school? Help a sister her.

"Anti-fraud activity results are entered into Global Case Management System (GCMS) as information alerts. The GCMS is the system that program officers use to process immigration applications. The data entry is performed by Case Management Branch employees, PIB employees and Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) officers. As such, at the start of a program officer’s review of an immigration application, an internal system control in GCMS provides a prompt to Program Integrity staff members when an application containing an information alert is being assigned to a CPC-O officer for processing. This is a program integrity control that is built into the GCMS that supports officer decision-making.

When processing applications, it is an officer’s responsibility to request a security screening for an applicant for permanent or temporary residence from one or all of IRCC’s security partners; including the CBSA, the Canadian Security Intelligence Service and for the Royal Canadian Mounted Police. The Program Integrity Unit provides operational support to the officer for these types of requests. The security screening result is an important element for visa officers to consider when making a final determination of an applicant’s admissibility into Canada.

Anti-fraud activities are aimed at detecting potential external fraudulent information / documents presented in applications. Some examples of anti-fraud activities include conducting verifications of employment documentation, marriage documentation and suspect immigration consultant representatives. Program Integrity staff use a variety of tools to detect potential external fraud."

Copied from CanadaVisa Forum
I Applied my GCMS notes just a week before my PPR is issued and got it in exactly 30 days. I was fortunate to see the whole detailed process of my complete application to the PPR since the notes was generated on the same day that they issued my PPR. I would share my analysis on how they process CEC applications. (Personal Thoughts: is this applicable to FSW-O??)

Long words short, I think that they have 3 validation stages through the process:
0. The start of everything is medical pass. This triggers multiple processes to start including but not limited to criminality check. (29 days after the time you take your exam)

1. Program Assistant Review (10 days after medical pass)
a. This role does a very rough check on your files after your medical passes. (maybe this is R10)
2. Case Analyst Review (30 days after the Program Assistant Review)
a. To me this is the real and most important role that may send out procedural fairness letter (or the procedural fairness letter is sent by the immigration officer who knows..)
b. This role runs a thorough validation on your files and write a detailed report on what he/she find and submit the report to the immigration officer
c. This person also makes a rough decision of your eligibility A11.2 such as “Recommend Pass”
d. This person’s notes are long and are in details.

3. Immigration Officer Review (24 days after the Case Analyst Review)
a. The immigration officer makes the final decision based on the report gathered by the case analyst.
b. This role determines whether he/she is satisfied with your eligibility A11.2 and makes a final decision right after you pass A11.2.
c. Though this role’s notes are very short, according to the processing time during this stage, this role may also do a thorough validation on your files.

4. PPR send out (6 days after the Immigration Officer Review)

Details:
Day 16: Files transferred from Centralized Intake Office to CPC Vegreville
Day 28: Medical Passed. Criminality In Progress. RCMP submitted and passed on the same day. US Partner Biographic check submitted and passed on the same day.
Day 29: Files transferred from CPC Vegreville to CPC Ottawa
Day 38: Program Assistant Review - Candidate Eligibility at CPC Vegreville
Score met, Fees Paid, Med passed, R10 Passed, English Test Met (This is the earliest time I see the keyword R10 appears in the notes)
PCC Pass, RCMP Pass, Criminality – Recommend Pass
Day 56: My first GCMS note generated (I guess that the visa officer can see this message in their system)
Day 58: Biographic shared with the USA returned as Passed. (should be passed on 29th?! but they updated this field on this day)
Day 68: Case Analyst Review - Class Eligibility(CEC) at CPC Ottawa. Reviewed everything that Program Assistant reviewed and CRS Score Summary, Current status in Canada, Marital status, Medical Validity, Passport Validity, Work experience
A11.2 Recommend Pass

[To me, Case Analyst is the real person that does thorough validation of your application documents including researching your work experience through web-based search, calculating your work period in detail, confirming your annual salary, job description/NOC, full-time/part-time job type, employment letter, as well as validating your paystubs]

Day 92: Criminality Passed
Day 92: Officer Review – Eligibility at CPC Ottawa
Reviewed everything that Case Analyst reviewed and satisfied with the application without any concerns. Eligibility Pass - A11.2 Pass

[The officer is the real big CROWN guy who takes the detailed report from the case analyst, reviews the report and determines whether this application is okay or not. The officer will approve your application right after A11.2 passes. In my case, the final decision was made in 2 minutes after A11.2 passed.]

Day 92: Security is only mentioned here as not started through the whole GCMS note. No further details. It’s either withheld by them or never started…
Day 92: Final decision made, application approved. (This approval only shows in the GCMS notes)
Day 98: Ready For Visa email sent (This is PPR)
Day 98: Group Number Assigned (from other’s GCMS notes showing they seem to process Passport in batches/groups)
Day 99: (Digital) COPR Saved to The System and queued for printing
Day 99: (Digital) Counterfoil Saved to The System and queued for printing

I have never had a chance to dig into “Security” check as the GCMS notes did not mention anything.”

Be hopeful!!! Keep busy and the 10 weeks will be herr in no time.
God is your strength.

Onaliaku:

This is not true Sir/Ma. It is not compulsory for a spouse to do ECA. You need to check page 1 yourself.
