Edo Is Nigeria Fourth Largest Ethnic Group by Nobody: 2:12pm On Dec 04, 2018 |
According to Wikipedia, an ethnic group is .. Some people tend to confuse the Benin speaking part as Edo which is false, even me was confused before now, time to clear the ignorance.I I'll be dealing with each tribes that make up Edo/Edoid ethnic group. The Benin: . The Edo or Bini (from the word "Benin" people are an ethnic group primarily found in Edo State, and spread across the Delta, Ondo, and Rivers states of Nigeria. They speak the Edo language and are the descendants of the founders of the Benin Empire. They are closely related to other ethnic groups that speak Edoid languages, such as the Esan, the Afemai and the Owanthe Benin are the original people in their original ancestral land, they didn't migrate and people tend to confuse them as the only Edo which is wrong. The Bini has a population of 5 million in Nigeria and 3 million aside Nigeria, notable bini people are obaseki, victor uwaifo, Benson idahosa etc. The Esan tribe: The Esan people (Esan: Ẹ̀bhò Ẹ̀sán) are an ethnic group of south Nigeria who speak the Esan language. The Esan are traditionally agriculturalists, trado-medical practitioners, mercenary warriors and hunters. They cultivate palm trees, Irvingia gabonensis (erhonhiele), Cherry (Otien), bell pepper (akoh) coconut, betel nut, kola nut, black pear, avocado pear, yams, cocoyam, cassava, maize, rice, beans, groundnut, bananas, oranges, plantains, sugar cane, tomato, potato, okra, pineapple, paw paw, and various vegetables.[3]the Esan people are 2 million in population in Nigeria. Famous Esan people are Anthony Enahoro, journalist, politician, former Federal Commissioner, former Chairman NADECO, raised the motion for the independence of Nigeria in 1953 at the age of 30 Augustus Aikhomu, Navy Admiral and former military Vice President of Nigeria Ambrose Folorunsho Alli, professor of medicine, Governor of Bendel State and the founder of Bendel State University, later posthumously renamed Ambrose Alli University Anthony Anenih, police officer, politician, former Chairman Social Democratic Party, former PDP Board of Trustees Chairman, and former Minister of Works and Housing Tom Ikimi, architect, politician, former Chairman National Republican Convention, and former Minister of Foreign Affairs Festus Iyayi, writer Stella Obasanjo the First Lady of Nigeria from 1999 until her death Anthony Olubunmi Okogie, Cardinal and former Archbishop of Lagos Sonny Okosun, musician Chris Oyakhilome, an international renowned evangelist Fidelis Oyakhilome, former Lagos State Police Commissioner and former Governor of Rivers State. Etsako tribe: Etsakọ people are one of the major ethnic groups in Edo State, Nigeria. They presently occupy three local government areas of Edo State; these are Etsako East, Etsako West and Etsako Central, with Agenebode, Auchi, and Fugar, as their administrative headquarters.[citation needed] In some quarters the people of Owan are also referred to as Etsako. The Etsakos,Owans, and Akoko-Edo people are often referred to as the Afenmai (Edo north). This is due to their close linguistic and historical relationship. Local tradition of origin often trace their migration from Benin due to the tyrannical desposition of the Oba of Benin, which many oral traditionalists attribute probably to the 14th century. It is believed their ancestors must have settled in South Ibie before groups started moving to populate the other area they occupy. It is one of the three major ethnic groups in today's Edo State, and the most populous ethnic group in Edo North. The loyalty of an Etsako man firstly is to his home/homestead, Village, Clan, and ethnic group. Also strong affinity between the Etsako people and their neighbors can be deduced in some customary rites, borrowed words, and even migration pattern. A good example is the "Ajinebode" myth of the Idah Igala who believe that the early founder or ruler of Idah was "Ajinebode". This coincidence is worthy of further Historical elucidation since the mighty River Niger divides Idah in present-day Kogi State and Agenebode in Edo State.they can also be called afemai, they are over 2 million in population. |

Urhobo, isoko, itshekiri, ikwerre all said to have Edo ancestry but are deciding to maintain their own unique ethnic group which is good. But a tree never forget it's root. Even ijaw that claim 4th largest ethnic group, some parts are divided over their Edo ancestry 2 Likes 1 Share |

Edodefender:U are confused my brother, edo state contains different other tribes, means they are not up to a single tribe that makes up to a state so which one is the fourth largest tribe in edo state (Okpamheri Tribe, Uneme Tribe, Esan Tribe, binI tribe, even some some parts of yoruba,, you are very funny my brother, , note: , ikwerre has nothing to do with your state, as it's an igbo sub group ,you can give me prove or otherwise stop the propanganda, stop attachin yourself to every minority tribe, If every tribe in south south and south east originated from edo abi na benin, that means this bini must be mysterious

Edodefender:Should be about 3 million. 1.9million in 2006. Exactly. But we hear from popular public figures from the groups i stated more often than we hear from Edo groups (this is my personal opinion) on public matters. This is one way you can tell how vast an ethnic group is. 1 Like |

Edodefender:My brother nobody is forcing anybody here, the truth is human being are know by their identity, If you are tribes dialect is igbo and ur tribe name is igbo, they where are you supposed to belong, you know the answer, We didn't force anybody to be igbo, drop your igbo dialect and your name if you are no longer interested in Bein igbo, and embrace yoruba or even edo. But if you can't change it , you will continue to be who you are, That is the way god created you ,I don't believe in stories or propanda. But facts Have a nice day |
