NairobiWalker: These 2 more points. ***** Yes, Nigerians starve, but the truth is that this only happens in the case of a civil disturbance like a war or uprising. The entire landmass of Nigeria is fertile and the cultures of 98% of the population are agragrian. So, if tens of millions of people farm to produce food year in year out, how practical is it for them to starve? Assess it yourself and judge for yourself. Boko haram displaced millions of people from their homes, and these people are all farmers. Of course there would be starvation. Outside all this. Starvation is alien to Nigeria. >>>>> About Nigerian business men running businesses in the continent. (sighs). I can't say, cos I do not know much business related stuff. South Africans have the largest and most influential businesses in Africa, so, if any one should brag about that, it's them. However, Nigeria has the richest man and some of the richest people in Africa and their business span across the continent. We also have a tribe like the Igbos who are extremely good in business and have apparently developed one of the best apprenticeship system in the world. These may be the reasons why Nigerians brag about this, but as usual, sometimes it's definitely an exxageration. ++++ That giant of Africa title I guess came about in the 60s when Nigeria truly seemed like the giant of Africa. I myself do not believe that title and do not see the need for it, cos it's all about bragging. ~~~~ If you think the attitudes of Nigerians on this thread is the daily attitude of most Nigerians, then you must be mistaken. Most Nigerians criticize our country and only a few praise it. The ones here just feel the need to oppose the title of this thread. Nigerian economy is shrinking, but as long as Nigeria is accepted as the continent's largest economy, expect many to brag about it. However I personally don't see anything special in that, afterall we have the largest population, so, anything short of this would be shameful. 2 Likes |

genieluv: Ooh.....what a hypocrite. A bigoted mind of cause is selectively blind of cause. It'll only see what it wants to see. For one, just a few hours ago, your brother forgiveness claimed there's a tower in Lagos called Ministry of communication tower. I'm yet to hear you call him on that. |

forgiveness:Lady,There about 10 different ways of measuring a skyscrapers height. Some institutions measure a skyscrapers height up to the roof, Some institutions just counts a spire, antenna or masks Some counts up to highest occupied floor Some just use architectural height etc. But its foolish to add antenna at a building's height. Because that have led to some crooks erecting just a pole on top so they can claim to have a tallest building status! |

NairobiWalker: Like I said, I do not even know if he is lying or saying the truth cos I don't know much about sky scrappers and their names. His response just seems true with the way he presents his facts. **** Besides can you and forgiveness please tell me what this obsession with sky scrappers are? European cities do not have much sky scrappers, yet they are deemed some of the best and most liveable cities in the world with the best economies. 1 Like 1 Share |

genieluv: False..... interesting how you lie yet insist Nigerians don't lie on this thread. Nigeria last had a civil war in 1960s, as late as September this year, Reuters reported cases of starvation in Nigeria. See? Were it a Kenyan you'd have already labeled us Kenyans. https://www.google.com/amp/s/mobile.reuters.com/article/amp/idUSKCN1LK2BV Another lie - if starvation is alien to Nigeria, then it's alien to the rest of the world. You're simply giving me reasons why people starve all over the world and claiming Nigerians don't starve unless those reasons happen.
There you go again giving me reasons why Nigerians brag. See, they brag. Giving me a reason why they brag doesn't make them less of braggarts. To make it worse, they don't even have the bragging rights.
Don't explain how the title came, thing is, you call yourself a giant when you really are not yet still complain about Kenyans painting a rosy picture of their country. Hypocrisy. You don't believe in it but find no issue with your brothers doing it yet when a Kenyan does it, it irks you. Hypocrite. Are you even listening to yourself? You used attitudes of Kenyans on this thread to judge most Kenyans yet complain that I'm using attitudes of Nigerians on this thread to judge most Nigerians.
/I should expect Nigerians to brag/ to cut it short, you're mad at Kenyans for daring Brag about their little achievements but completely okay with Nigerians for bragging about their similarly little achievements. How hypocritical can somebody get? Reason I said I prefer open haters like bantudra than wolves in sheepskin like you. 1 Like |

Kenya is poised to produce Africa’s most productive human capital in the medium term, a World Bank survey shows, buoyed by the country’s present deep investment in healthcare and child education. The inaugural Human Capital Index (HCI) the World Bank published recently shows that Kenya ties with Algeria in offering the best education and health in the continent — factors that would make them churn out most productive workers by 2036. Kenya scores 0.52 to rank 94 in the world out of the 157 countries ranked in the HCI that puts Singapore on top of the world with a score of 0.88. It beats large economies in Africa such as South Africa, Nigeria and Egypt. The report comes barely a month after Bloomberg report ranked Kenyan immigrants working in the US as the third most skilled and industrious foreigners. In the region, Tanzania scores 0.40 in the HCI at position 128 followed by Ethiopia, Uganda and Sudan with 0.38 at position 135, 137 and 139 respectively while Rwanda scores 0.37 at position 142. The index is measured in terms of the productivity of the next generation of workers relative to the benchmark of complete education and full health. An economy in which the average worker achieves both full health and education potential will score a value of one on the index. The study measures the consequences of neglecting investments in human capital in terms of the lost productivity of the next generation of workers. “In countries with the lowest human capital investments today, our analysis suggests that the workforce of the future will only be one-third to one-half as productive as it could be if people enjoyed full health and received a high-quality education,” the report says. The HCI survey shows that Kenya has made efforts in building the right foundations to churn out productive workers by the age of 18. Kenya has in the past decade been implementing various reforms aimed at improving the quality of education. Key among them is funding of the free primary and day-secondary education. In addition, the government registered more technical and vocational education training (TVET) institutions to bridge skill gaps in the labour market. The reforms have yielded some fruit with Economic Survey 2018 showing that total enrolment in pre-primary schools rose by 2.9 per cent to 3.29 million in 2017 compared to the previous year while enrolment in primary schools increased from 10.3 million in 2016 to 10.4 million in 2017. In addition, enrolment in secondary schools grew by 4.1 per cent to 2.83 million in 2017. As jobs become defined by more cognitive and analytical tasks, the World Bank cites Kenyan worker as having the ability to compete well. “In Bolivia and Kenya, more than 40 per cent of workers using computers perform complex tasks that require advanced programming,” says the report. "Indeed, the demand is growing for transferable higher-order cognitive skills such as logic, critical thinking, complex problem-solving, and reasoning.” In health, the report observes that Kenya has made progress in making children survive from birth to school age. It notes that the death of any child is not only a tragedy but also a loss of human capital, which is never realised. ....., The World Bank study also shows that bureaucracies charged with implementing policies to build human capital often lack the capacity or the incentives to do so effectively. Service delivery indicators survey the World Bank conducted in seven countries in sub-Saharan Africa, including Kenya found that, on average, three in 10 fourth-grade teachers had not mastered the language curriculum they were teaching. “On a positive note, 94 per cent of Kenyan teachers had done so,” says the report that also ranks Kenyan doctors ahead of Nigeria. “The surveys paint an equally mixed picture for healthcare facilities: About 80 per cent of Kenyan doctors could correctly diagnose a basic condition such as neonatal asphyxia, whereas less than 50 per cent of Nigerian doctors were able to do so.” 1 Like
