Nigerian Airforce expecting 18 aircraft from U.S, Italy

The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) says it would soon take delivery of 12 newly acquired aircraft from the United States as part of renewed efforts to end the insurgency in the Northeast.
The Chief of Air Staff (CAS), Saddique Abubakar, stated this while inaugurating “Modular Theatre” at the 465 Nigeria Air Force Hospital in Kano on Saturday.
He said the Air Force is also expecting six gunship helicopters from Italy, saying the aircraft and helicopters will enhance the operational capacity of the force.

Nigerian Police in Mali

The vehicle behind is locally assembled in Nigeria.

The company making them is also offering them to the Nigerian army for troop transport.

It was displayed at the Nigerian army research and innovation summit 2018.

You can see it pictured in Nigerian army cammo. I don't yet know the vehicle's name.

Looks better than any Hilux in its role as a light patrol vehicle.

what is helo gunship? What is an attack helicopter? In what way are they different from each other?

The only Nigeria order from Italy is A109 helicopter. The journalist made a mistake by calling it a gunship which is a term used to refer to MI35 and MI24 Mostly.

On this occasion it wasn't a journalist that made a mistake but actually what the NAF spokesman wrote in his press release.

A quick review of the variants of the ARA MRAP and their differences.

- ARA MRAP MK1

We, most Nigerians went ballistic when we saw ARA MRAP MK1. It was a culmination of our desires.

ARA MK1 features a wider scale, a larger foot stand, wider stores. It also had it's exhaust pipe underneath the vehicle and 2 windscreens. So far, it seems only 1 unit was built.

- ARA MRAP MK2

The MK2 Version was a vast improvement from the MK1 version. They moved the exhaust pipe from underneath the vehicle to much higher up the side of the vehicle.

They also made the MK2 variant much more slender, reducing the width of the vehicle. However it still maintained 2 windscreens.

This unit was delivered to the Nigerian army for testing.

- ARA MRAP MK3, the MK3 version featured even more additional adjustment to the MK2. The MK2 ground clearance was improved significantly. It also featured a full wide screen instead of 2 like the previous models.

The MK3 was a proper beast of the bush. 2 units were delivered to the Nigerian army and officially inducted in a ceremony in Maiduguri.

- ARA MRAP MK4

Now the MK4, this is a sweet looking vehicle, first spotted at IDEAS 2018 in Pakistan, i knew we had a beautiful MRAP cooking in the factory.

The new MRAP features much of the designs of her predecessors and supercharges it.

The head lights have been moved to a more traditional position when compared to other versions. It's main turret was moved further forward.

It has 4 additional turrets from where soldiers can stand in and deliver lead.

It looks sexier more intimidating and an all round beauty.

It's a very sexy looking vehicle.

I'm hoping they build a vehicle like this really fast though.

Imagine if the Nigerian army places an order for 300 units......... That'll very fantastic.

I pray NA orders fast & quick. The MRAP has matured and it offers us a chance to once & for all streamline our suppliers

I believe if Proforce earns enough from the sale of the ARA they can offer us a wheeled IFV (Oh what a day of rejoicing that will be)

Real kudos to the Proforce, they refused to sleep on their proverbial bicycle

Well, you are very correct. It offers us opportunity to streamline supplies. I hope we stick with it.

If they can't get a wheeled IFV, they can get us a 6x6 variant of the ARA MRAP armed with a 20mm just like what Nexter offers with TITUS.

I'll also like to see a special forces vehicle from them.

What do you think about the TITUS, I think it's something we can do.

De Mist recovered

http://www.defenceweb.co.za/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=53966:de-mist-recovered&catid=51:Sea&Itemid=106

"Ingenuity, tenacity and the sweat equity in the form of hard work were major contributing factors in bringing the Tug de Mist to the surface this week just on four weeks after she sank in the Still Water Basin of Simon’s town harbour.

The SA Navy decided to utilise own resources to bring the out of service tug to surface without employing extras or special equipment. It also provided invaluable practical salvage experience for Navy divers Commander Greyling van den Berg said."
