Henry240:The TITUS looks too big. I even fear for its centre of gravity. A good example of what I think Proforce can do is the Paramount Mbombe 6×6 |

Henry240:Lol. I like this. Let's see them more involved in the frontline building reliable fortifications for FOBs. These earth movers and engineers were ever present in kicking out shitty state in Syria and Iraq keeping frontlines stable and terrorists at bay. Many raids with help from recoilless rifles or similar stopped many raids from terrorists who couldn't simply get over imposing berms built. |

Odunayaw:For me, the TITUS is just perfect. You need to see the ease of mobility and obstacle climbing of that vehicle. The Mbombe 6x6 doesn't come close. I like the Mbombe 6x6, however i think the TITUS offers better. |

Danooz87:Danooz87, kikuyu1 and other Kenyans, please explain something to me: The Kenya coast guard's MV Doria was designed and developed by a South African company in Cape Town, ordered by a Danish company, and built in a Bangladeshi shipyard. Source: The MV Doria was handed over to Kenya in August 2017 by Bangladeshi shipbuilder Western Marine Shipyard (WMS) after being ordered on 23 January 2014 by Denmark’s JGH Marine on Kenya’s behalf. MV Doria’s keel was laid in August 2014, and the hull completed in December 2015. The vessel was wholly designed and developed by Icarus Marine in Cape Town. Why this convoluted procurement? 2 Likes

Henry240: Is that a MONUSCO caption for this pic or yours? I ask because the current FIB deployment has zero SA SF. The South African soldier in the pic is from Alpha Company, 1 Parachute Battalion. The Tanzo with the Micro Galil is SF. The Malawian with the gumboots is not - the Malawians have no SF unit, though they have half a company of Fort Bragg-qualified troops who were last deployed in 2013 and 2016. 2 Likes

frumentius:It's my caption. I usually caption general operations in the DRC as MONUSCO. That image was taken the period when 15 UN peacekeepers were killed. Again, that's a general caption as the Tanzanians in the pic are SF. |

61mech:It's been ridiculous for quite some time. These guys seem to be following the Paramount example: the parent company is in SA, but the Cairo-based subsidiary gets to market it as an "Egyptian product". More grease to their elbow! But, at some point, South Africa as a whole and the defence industry in particular will have to choose between Saudi Arabia/UAE and their clients in the GCC like Egypt/Bahrain etc; or Iran/Iraq/Qatar and/or Turkey etc. Trump's nonsensical sanctions on Iran have merely postponed the moment of reckoning. Latest example: Egypt used SA EW tech to shut down comms in Sinai, which affected Israeli settlements along the common border. Tel Aviv protested directly to us, whereupon we gave them codes to override, which Cairo overlooked. The Saudis/Emiratis will definitely NOT be similarly charitable should we repeat such when -not if- we land a lucrative deal with Iran/Qatar. Glad I'm just a lowly planner and not in the East Wing of the Union Buildings! 3 Likes |

kikuyu1:s Prior to this, the Banglas had never handled a contract this size. In fact, this was the very first OPV out of that shipyard. Icarus does some work out of Singapore, but Bangladesh? More important, why did Nairobi contract with a Danish company, who got a SA company to design the product, which the Banglas manufactured? Looks to me like a laundering scheme, with Kenyan citizens -i.e. taxpayers - being the losers. |
