NairobiWalker:Anybody that says Nigeria is the richest country in Africa doesn't know the basics of economics. GDP per capita is the acceptable method use in ranking how rich a country is and Nigeria ranks 15 or 16 on that index. Still above Kenya |

I am not saying. Your data is saying. Gov revenues are 90%(used to be 99%) from oil. Your exports are 99% OIL. You still import what you imported 30yrs ago - refined oil & food. If you economy had changed in structure - from oil dependency - to well diversified sectors - we would be talking something else. The other sectors exist - but they are small compared to oil sector. Your economy get into a recession when oil prices drop. Ibrahimanis: 1 Like |

tlann: The population of Nigeria is more than that of East Africa. Pidgin is spoken in Ghana(their music and shit), southern Cameroon, Cotonou(benin Republic),Sierra Leone has their own version which is similar and intelligible to pidgin Swahili is a Language proper while pidgin English is a Creole. The only basis of comparison is number of speakers nothing more |

Ibrahimanis:You don't know the basics either. GDP per capita alone doesn't measure the wealth of a country. We also have something called HDI which is a much better method. |

rvp20183:2010: A household of 5 spends 5dollar to buy water a day. 2011: a farmer joined the household, he provides you with a cup of rice per day. total 6 2012: an electrician joined, you stopped hiring electrician to fix your problems. total 7 2013: a baker joined, he provides you with a loaf of bread per day. total 8 2018: the household now spends 8dollar a day for water, will you say the structure is still same? Productivity increased, yes or no. Will you still value the house as you will in 2010. The fact that Nigeria still imports food and oil does NOT mean the structure is still the same as 1970 Again any Nigerian worth anything between the ears knows Nigeria need to diversify it's economy, nobody has ever argued against that. |

genieluv: Trust me, people started viewing China as a possible super power centuries ago. Just like India. But Nigeria? Nah! First, you may have the largest population in Africa but still there are many countries ahead of you that are doing extremely better than you. For a country with your population to be a superpower, it must be run extremely well. However, Nigeria is one of the worst run countries in the world. We love to see Kenya as poorly run but when we look at Nigeria, we feel like we aren't so badly off. Two, you love seeing yourself as hardworking but you'll never know the definition of hardworking until you visit countries such as Japan or Westen Europe. The problem with Africans is we think being busy is being hardworking. You walk into African cities and see everyone on the move hurrying and you think they're working but look at their productivity - you can't compare to Europe. Go to an African office, too many staff but you'll sit the whole day waiting for something as simple a signature. Meanwhile you'll see workers just there drinking tea, chatting and on Facebook all through. 6 Likes 1 Share |

That is normal household like kenya. Nigeria suffers from dutch disease. That mean the household is still addicted to oil. It doesn't make sense for them to farm or bake or learn electricity - except during oil recession - when Oil boom resumes - everyone abandon the farms, the bakery and even electricity - and oil binge start. Until the next recession stops the party Ibrahimanis: 1 Like |

NairobiWalker:No HDI measures human development like lifespan, illiteracy access to health care e.t.c not economic wealth. Qatar is richer than the United States but US ranks high on HDI. In short hdi measures the quality of life, you can be worth 50,000 in Qatar but a person worth 10,000 will have a better life. 1 Like 2 Shares |

Ibrahimanis: So how can you call yourself wealthy when your standard of living is low? The reason Qatar's HDI is low is because they've many poor immigrants living there. 88% of Qatar population is immigrants. |

Some homework for you to help you understand why Nigeria economy is in doldrums. The paper examines why the enormous promises held out by the inflow of revenues from oil export has not made any significant improvement in the lives of Nigerians and the economy as a whole. The paper traces the problem to the inherent contradictions, anomalies, and problems associated with countries that depend on oil as their primary export commodity. The revenue it generates when prices are high tends to cause “Dutch-Diseases”, high oil revenue raises exchange rates, promotes an adverse balance of payments when prices fall, reduce the incentive to risk investment in non-oil sectors like agriculture and manufacturing. Just one example is Nigeria, which, since initiating the export of oil has seen its agricultural sector collapsing and now it is entirely dependent on imported food. The paper draws attention to the political imperative strengthening governance to address these anomalies. https://www.ajol.info/index.php/afrrev/article/view/74896 darfay: 1 Like |

Actually forget the Dutch disease - there is the Nigeria disease. Recent work suggests another explanation of the resource curse – the Nigerian Disease. That is, an abundance of natural resources leads to poorer governance and conflicts. It gives rise to governments that are less accountable to the people, have little incentive for institution-building, and fail to implement growth enhancing reforms. Higher corruption, more rent-seeking activity, greater civil conflict, and erosion of social capital are some of the outcomes associated with the Nigerian Disease (see, for example, Rosser 2006). While it too early to draw any definitive conclusion on the relevance of the Nigerian Disease, the early results do suggest a possible way out of the resource curse - greater emphasis on institution-building and government accountability. |

NairobiWalker:Beauty, Elegance, Grace, Charisma, Body and Intelligence are among the factors used to judge a beauty queen. And all of these were found in the Nigerian lady. You can't take somebody like Lupita there and expect her to win no matter how intelligent or graceful she is. ***** Here is my problem with your hypocrisy. You judge the Entire Ethiopia based on Habesha women but you judge the entire Nigeria based on Southern Nigerian women? Yes!, Nigerian Hausa, Fulani, Shuwa Arab and other Northern Nigerian women can give Ethiopian Habesha women a run for their money when it comes to facial beauty! Those are not my opinions, those are the opinions of the average Kenyan man towards Nigeria women. Trust me, I'm not saying this for the sake of arguing. Do you want me to link you back to the picture contest of Nigerian/Kenyan women we embarked on in the past? I'm not sure you were the Kenyan involved. Just say yes! Kenyan women don't come in the same shape either, that's common sense. But on average, Nigerian women have wide shoulders and wide faces. ***** How can someone say Lupita is more endowed than Yemi Alade or Tiwa Savage? We watched 12 years of a slave when Lupita was stripped naked and flogged. Should we go and bring the scene and past it here comparing them with music videos of Tiwa Savage & Yemi Alade? Don't make us take this to the next level by serious picture and video posting o! You can tell me Corazon Kwamboka is more endowed, not Lupitia. ***** Same Corazon that denigrated all Black African men before her white boyfriend. Highly buttressing the inability of Kenyan men to handle a real African woman. Perhaps you haven't seen this thread? https://www.nairaland.com/3772641/loyal-servant-life-kenyan-lady No Nigerian woman can dare such when we have so many Nigerian men to treat us right and spoil us better than other men. Well, I can only speak for East Africans and specifically Kenyans. Maybe you can tell me why other West Africans don't want you. All I know, in Kenya, Which other group of women desire Kenyan men and are obsessed with them. I'd like to know. **** Kenyan men are very local and pretty much do not see beyond their localities. Same with most East & Southern African men. How many Kenyan men marry Habesha women? Few of course, in spite of how much you idolize them. I can bet Habesha women marry more Nigerian men even though you are next door neighbours. Can you show me 10 Kenyan + Habesha marriages of note? (Pls don't show me those of Oromo Kenyan and Oromo Ethiopian or Somali Kenyan/ Somali ethiopian. I mean pure Kenyan Bantu/Nilotes and Habesha women).***** ~~~It's so surprising that the best and biggest entertainer in Kenya had to settle for a Nigerian girl. This buttresses my point along. Nigerian women can only look the way of extremely enlightened and wealthy men in other parts of Africa. It's so good that the everyday Kenyan man doesn't think of us, cos we are way above their league. We can only manage the best of the best Kenyan men 4 Shares
