Thunderbolt yes but US won't sell. The upgraded and refurbished ones are also very expensive.

Refurbished Alpha night vision NVG jets are better for Nigeria. Just $5m per piece, another $50,000 to arm and pilots are just waiting.
For the SU 25, it is very irritating the way some people go on about this armoured, heavily armed, ground attack plane as if it is just available for pick up in a show room.
Everything looks possible and easy when you are commenting on social media.
There are no more SU 25s avail able except Russian, Czech and Ukraine stocks...maybe Libyan stocks too (LOL).
To get those few planes, extend their lives, upgrade them, arm them, train pilots et.c will cost $80m each and we will get them in 2022. It is absolute rubbish for Nigeria to be trying to buy SU 25 . The deal won't even work. The last one was through Israeli firm ELBIT, they charged about $50m per plane. I am sure, all the engineers who were participating in this upgrade offerings have been disbanded and moved to other more exciting projects.

Yak 131 is a much better alternative but even then we must remember that Russian is under partial sanctions. We may not be able to pay for the plane in foreign currency as all transfers for defence purposes through international banks are under watch. We could pay with crude oil but Russia has more oil than Naija.
That is what I don't like about USA.they keep all the good stuff for NATO and middle east allies like Israel selling us Nigerians decommissioned coastguard cutter that we are celebrating as 'thunder' If they sold us the 70s a10 thunderbolt will it kill them? they are not using that variant but no,they won't sell.su25 that was made to be cheap is expensive on the long run but a10 would have been very effective against boko haram.that planes bullets big as coke bottle!

Lies. Su-25 are not worth $80 million or so anywhere.
It's also on record how Iraq bought 6 Su25s on emergency from Russia. They Arrived so quickly, they had no pilots to fly them. (Warisboring and other blogs are there for reference) Consequently they also lost more than 3 Su25s within the first 6 months of delivery.

Now while it may have been a strategic supply from Russia trying to gain clout in Iraq against perceived American slow pace of aircraft deliveries, they received this aircraft in less than 6 months.

Greed and corruption is why the Israeli deal failed. (this was discussed extensively on Beegs blog then) It's therefore not impossible but we've more or less put all eggs in a basket that should we buy Su25s, we'll have no one to fly them cos we've mostly trained on certain types of jets. At this stage, Alpha jets or F7s may just be our best bet if needing immediate air support. But we need to do better in assessing future threats lest its all inappropriate fits again in the future.

Imagine a tiny vehicle like this taking out several million dollar tanks with the help on an ATGM purchased for a few thousand dollars, the future of warfare is crazy, just take a look at the situation in Yemen today.

Effectiveness depends on the parties and their capabilities involved in a conflict.

Any party which has access to networked vertical and horizontal sensors allowing real time fused situational picture with OODA enabled kill chain will decimate such assets even before they can become a threat.

However minus the uncertainties due to fog of war.

Judge for yourself, all these upgrades and design changes tailored to fit the Nigerian army’s specifications achieved in less than a year, the production line also seems busy so I believe a substantial order has been placed by NA.

Now we're talking cheesy

That’s because in the SW most criminal elements are in the bush/creeks, don’t expect to see soldiers patrolling major roads or cities, I think that’s the job of the police.

The 14-week long competition, which came to a close yesterday, 12 December 2018, at the NAF Base Sports Ground Abuja, featured 4 teams competing in various events including athletics, badminton, basketball, boxing, football, golf, handball, judo, squash and swimming. Other sporting events were table tennis, taekwondo, tennis, tug of war, volleyball and wrestling. Events featured during the closing ceremony included a Novelty Football Match between Team RSM and National Youth Service Corp (NYSC) Team, Tug-of-War between Teams Alpha and Charlie as well as athletics events such as male and female 200m dash, 4 x 100m Combat relay race, 4 x 400m Combat relay race between Teams Alpha, Bravo, Charlie and Delta, with contestants keeping spectators spell-bound with their skills. At the end of the keenly competed finals, Team Alpha, comprising personnel from the Training and Operations, Accounts and Budget and Medical Services Branches, came fourth with a total of 365 points. Team Bravo, composed of personnel from the Policy and Plans, Logistics, Communications Informations Systems and Air Secretary Branches, emerged third with 375 points. Team Charlie, consisting of personnel from the Administration, Aircraft Engineering and Standards & Evaluation Branches, placed second with 500 points, while Team Delta was adjudged the overall winner with a points haul of 740.

Speaking during the closing ceremony, the Special Guest of Honour, the Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar, represented by the Chief of Policy and Plans HQ NAF, Air Vice Marshal (AVM) Muhammad Mohammed, noted the commitment and high premium the NAF places on sports and physical fitness of its personnel. He therefore urged personnel and other participants to sustain the military culture of regular exercise for effective and efficient service delivery. He stated that the frequency of sporting activities would be increased in the coming year to provide more avenues for personnel to enhance their physical fitness while pointing out that the regular annual physical fitness test would be made more stringent with enhanced requirement for Body Mass Index (BMI) compliance. He ended his remarks by thanking the CAS for his pragmatic leadership style which had repositioned the NAF into a highly professional fighting force.

Earlier in his remarks, the Chief of Administration, HQ NAF, AVM Kingsley Lar, re-echoed the objective of the Wednesday Sports Competition which is to reinvigorate sporting activities and promote participation of personnel in sports for improved physical health and mental alertness. According to him, the competition was organized to foster inter-personnel esprit-de-corps as well as identify personnel that could be groomed to represent the NAF in future championships.

UPDATE ON REPAIR WORK AT MAKURDI MILITARY AIRFIELD

Repair work on the Runway and ancillary facilities at the Makurdi Military Airfield is progressing steadily towards completion. The repairs, which had necessitated the closure of the Airfield to civil flight operations, as published in relevant Notices to Airmen (NOTAMS), are aimed at improving flight safety in accordance with global best practices as well as in line with International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) regulations.

In order to hasten completion of the work, repair activities are being conducted literally round the clock, both day and night. The scope of work covers removal of failed sealant and application of fresh sealant to the concrete slab joints of the Runway, taxiways and apron; resurfacing of cracked portions of the manoeuvring area as well as re-marking of the Runway, amongst others. Currently, the work has reached an advanced stage and is expected to be completed around January 2019.

In Nigeria, soldiers patrol major roads and cities, though it's not there job but they do patrol and it's not just in Nigeria alone.

And I don't agree with that word in bold.

Believe it or not.....boko haram is winning this insurgency, they have the initiative....we have no queen on the chessboard, and we are still loosing puns to them.....we need a master stroke, to change the hands of the game......how many tanks in total and arty pieces do we have in the whole nigeria that is functional and how many have been lost in the N.E, how many then remains? How many rpgs do we have? Some officers have never in their lives held one........this battlefront annoys the hell out of me, red necks and politicians do not seem to be bothered, till their doors are broken open, by the soldiers themselves that protect them in the wee hours of the night.

I'm a novice, but how is boko haram being funded to execute major attacks in NE. In my opinion ( correct me if I'm wrong) it's through the money FG gave them for the release of those girls. It was a well executed plan though, especially during the election period when Nigeria is at its' weakest. The money meant for the combating the insurgents will have to be reduced due to expenses of election. So this was the perfect time to start their attacks. Gain territories to get more supply to arms and food, so they can have a high ground when the advanced weapons are delivered (tucano e.t.c). The best solution is to cut off their supply route which is the porous border of Nigeria to Chad and other countries. Then launch one massive attack on them, when they try to run and regroup, nowhere to run, borders are blocked. I'm a novice, so correct me on my opinion if it's wrong

Amazing isn't it? How we just fly online, type according to our morning temperament and then drop the mic

I wonder how BH is winning when we see them conducting "harrying attacks"
Neither do I understand why "all officers" should have held(hopefully you mean FIRE) a RPG
Likewise am trying to understand what "large numbers of RPG" have to do with winning an Insurgency. That's your queen on the chessboard

am Happy you said you're a novice

Do you not know they go around the Lake Chad basin stealing and destroying then they take their bounty to the black market in Chad? That's not hard to pick out if you're actually following things

Any guerilla worth its salt "lives off the land", while whatever Ransome must have been paid may be aiding them,it is not their sole funding stream

The problem with the whole effort is that we often times don't complete the Find-Fix-Finish loop. It seems a lot of people at the top see this war as something that must be won with " top equipments ".
