Yeah and it also faster, has better range, and ridiculously well armored.

Also P.S I've only noticed now that you have changed the o not a patrol vehicle and wasn't designed as such.
I described the Hornet as a Fast Intervention Vehicle.

The hornet is actually fully know as the Hornet RDRV(Rapid Deployment and Reconnaissance Vehicle).

That's what the Wolf is, it's also want the Jankel LRPV is.

Henry240:

You've jumped the gun. When i referred to Reconnaissance vehicles, i was referring to vehicles like the Hornet, Wolf, Panhard SFV, Jankel LRPV and Fox etc etc.

The Rooikat doesn't fit into that category.

Special forces vehicles used for reconnaissance.
And your jumping the gun as well, as I said before it's all about doctrine....., hence we have vehicles such as the Hornet(Rapid deployment and Recce), Rooikat(very long range combat reconnaissance), Modified Land Cruisers(Long range patrolling).

You said the Hornet is to small for recce, all I'm pointing out is that it doesn't have to have a huge range since there are other vehicles better suited for the sort of Reconnaissance you're talking about. If our SF wanted it to have a longer range they would've fitted it with a bigger fuel tank than the current 60liter one.

Mbombe 6x6 was designed for lower budged militaries where it bridges the gap between MRAP, Motorised and Mechanised infantry using different turrets. Titus is just to big to be used in mech and the 20mm doesn't cut it in that role anymore. So you end up with a vehicle that's overbuilt for motorised infantry. A budget minded military would use something much cheaper for that role. You can buy a lot of 2nd hand mraps for $900 000.

The high silhouette makes it very vulnerable to RPG fire. When you look at RPG training on the range, the biggest problem is ranging. Gunners usually miss very long or verry short at more than 300m. A high silhouette helps a lot with ranging errors.
Paramount will open a factory in your home country tomorrow. That's their whole business model.
Nexter exist to primarily support the French military and would instead do some kind of industrial offset with big promises of unicorns and rainbows that never amount to much 5 years later. They'll be glad to finance you though, but by the time you make your last payment those Euro bankers would have fleeced you out of 3x the amount on the sticker price.
At the end of your Mbombe contract you'll have a locally staffed factory with a regional export licence and in-country vehicle support. With the French you'll have to fly over some Nexter engineers every time you want run a engine diagnostic.

Henry240:

I'm not even referring to it's looks. The TITUS has one of the best mobility characteristics i've ever seen. A heavy this big and able to overcome the obstacles i've seen it overcome is incredible.

It's also built on Tatra proven chassis.

Again it's troop carrying capacity and the fact it carries a 20mm RCWS are huge draws for me personally.

Prior to this, the Banglas had never handled a contract this size. In fact, this was the very first OPV out of that shipyard. Icarus does some work out of Singapore, but Bangladesh?
More important, why did Nairobi contract with a Danish company, who got a SA company to design the product, which the Banglas manufactured?

Looks to me like a laundering scheme, with Kenyan citizens -i.e. taxpayers - being the losers.

That may be true but they've been building ships for the Germans for a decade now!

Armscor places nearly R2 billion in contracts in 2018

The 2018 calendar year saw Armscor place new contracts for defence and defence-related equipment to the value of R1.8 billion.

"The bulk of these were for maintenance and support of various systems for the SA Air Force (SAAF) and SA Army," Kevin Wakeford, chief executive of the acquisition agency said adding some spending went to "various technology-related contracts with defence evaluation and research institutes".

Among "significant acquisition contracts" placed this year he cited seven.

They are grenade rocket launchers; elements of a field kitchen system; elements of a field camping system; elements of a ground-based air defence system (GBADS); autonomous gun fire unit elements for air defence; a sniper rifle capacity and tactical communication systems.

Wakeford also noted development of a 30mm remote control weapon station and a radar upgrade as being among the more significant work undertaken during the year.

Best defence is don't get hit in the first place.
In testing cage only stops rpg rounds 40-60% of the time depending on who's research you read. They use it ,because it doesn't add much weight and is therefor worth the sacrifice. It also becomes a problem when you start going through bush or tight urban terrain. That's why you only see it on vehicles in high threat areas. Mbombe has cage and standoff armour built into the design so its more flush with the hull for this reason.
