For a Fast Intervention Vehicle, i think the Hornet is the best in it's class. I don't think i've seen a modern vehicle more rapidly deployable than the Hornet.

It is also heavily armed. I want to be caught in an ambush with the Hornet.

However for a reconnaissance role, i don't think the Hornet makes the cut. It's too small and limited for recon.

The French Panhard SFV, Jankel LRPV and the Nigerian Wolf are better in the reconnaissance role than the Hornet.

Good to see you have turned over a new leaf Henry, it’s nice to see everyone having a proper conversation for once.

To be fair they are listed under squadrons and are fairly well hidden in the ORBAT

I didn’t know they existed until a couple of years ago.

Maybe give us a run down of the whole lot so we can all learn together?
(I only know about the protection units - but I think SAAF has other infantry units)

I think i might have found a vehicle that's very similar to the Hornet. It's Polish.

Wirus Reconnaissance/ Fast Intervention Vehicle.

To be fair to Henry - and everyone here knows I'm no fan of his - he long ago acknowledged the value of the Hornet once he took in all the arguments made in its favour.

There's hope yet. Easiest target is overcoming his propensity to believe that because he doesn't know or have read of something, it doesn't exist.

Years ago I listed what I called the 500 Squadrons of the SA Air Force- starting with the elite 500 and 501 to the others responsible for normal base security. After 100 years of the SAAF, even a fool would realise this would be no great military endeavour but a non sequitor.

EDIT: I wrote about how the guys at 500 Squadrons complained about the lack of career progression within the SAAF as a SOF ground unit.
These guys feel that the Air Force should provide similar training like the US PJs and JTAC so they have same specialised skills advantages as Navy Marines and Army Paras when they show up for Recce Selection and later on, the specialised courses. As it is presently, it is very rare for the guys at 4 SFR not to have been at MRS, or 5 SFR at Parabat. Hell, even the medics who pass Selection get funnelled to 7 Med Batt Gp.

No special favours for these guys, but it makes sense that their SOF training in their individual service go beyond ground combat, they pass Selection and get steered towards SF Air specialities. All the more reason to re-establish another SF regiment in addition to 4&5.

Yes and no Henry. Yes the Wirus is a rapid response vehicle; no it doesn't match the hornet on account of the limited dismounts.
Let me explain: strategically we have 9 Hercs, of which 3 are always in repair, 3 used for training and 3 for operations. Because of funding constraints, we have only 2 for ops, doing the twice weekly supply to the DRC. Our Hercs can carry 3 Hornets with trailers, 4 without trailers.
That means 2 Hercs at any given time can carry 6 Hornets with trailers and crew- 6 drivers, 6 gunners and 6 vehicle commanders. That leaves 30 dismounts, at 5 per vehicle.
The Wirus only has 2 dismounts and only 2 vehicles can fit in a Herc- 6 crew and 4 dismounts.
Doesn't require a Clausewich to recognise 5 dismounts assaulting an objective is better than 2.
Hence I earlier asked, in the particular class, which vehicle is better than the Hornet, apart from the Razor, which carries 6 dismounts?

Tweet who , make them come catch me for house..

What baffled me the most was the guys didn't attempt to run, they even didn't feel the bullet pain, one had to bend his back before he decided to die.

This us very disturbing, and amnesty international would probably latch onto this too. War is bad it damages the psych.

I also noticed that despite being at close range, targets were not hit immediately, almost like the person couldn't aim.

I believe Nigerian army must have seen this and should discipline the erring soldiers. Nigerian army might also need to incorporate a counselling/therapeutic section for those in this war, and those returning home.

In a volatile place like the north, where you have seen lots and lots of your brothers die, it's easy to mistake everyone as the enemy.

I just hope that those first two shots were just to threaten the men... because you can't tell me that a soldier will miss those first two shots at close range

And besides what's the need of killing those men and making a video of the killings? When we can clearly see those men are un armed

Thing is, we don't know which army these men belong to, Nigerian or Cameroonian or Nigerien.
Or it could be that it's a BH propaganda video to incite the public against the military. We have seen cases of terrorists dressed in uniform, carrying out extrajudicial killings before.

If indeed this is the Nigerian army, then the DHQ needs to investigate it.

This war is becoming too complicated, even the soldiers don't trust their superiors(or the government) anymore, they go through hell to arrest terrorists and the next thing they hear, the people they arrested have been released by "order from above", why won't they go rogue and start meting out instant justice?.

If those guys are Nigerian soldiers, then it is the DHQ's fault that these things are happening in the first place. The army is not consistent with routine rotation of it's men at the TOW, how can you expect human beings to be fighting continuously in the wilderness for as long as 2 years without them getting messed up in the head?, if the army has shortage of men, then they should recruit more men, there are hundreds of thousands of young Nigerians willing to serve the fatherland, even to the extent of paying the supreme sacrifice.

These things will continue to happen until the DHQ does something about the welfare of it's kinetic manpower. Routine training, retraining, counselling and periodic rotation of men should do the trick of reducing such disasters.
