From the main impact points it appears one of the vehicles was on the wrong lane, or I should say both were on the same carraigeway but in opposite directions and I guess one was overtaking or more commonly, avoiding a pothole at speed. This tragedy called our national dual carriageway network, rendered ineffectual and highly dangerous due to perpetually bad condition and endless repairs over the decades has cost too many lives.

There is hardly any road now on which one can drive from city to city on the same side of the carriageway without having to divert into on coming traffic. Now if these diversions were mapped and clearly indicated with the requisite warning signs some risks will be mitigated but quite often if one is not a frequent traveller on that route you may be suddenly accosted with high speed traffic head on and woe betide you if you happen to be overtaking or evading a pothole at that split second.

I guess one may say the shortcomings of the road safety corps has come to the fore in this very tragic manner and I shudder to think what is coming when the annual holiday migration starts in earnest.....

He was said to be heading to Benin, Edo state when the tragic road crash happened, while his driver was said to have sustained injuries and receiving treatment at yet to be known hospital.
