Adiwana: Since you think speaking English language is a form of mental slavery from the whites, kindly suggest to FG to let everyone speak and learn in their different native language, we'll then see how all of us can communicate with each other, dont bring religion here 13 Likes 2 Shares |

Biglittlelois: And when is speaking english a measure of intelligenceThere are thousands of languages in the whole world and you think speaking one makes you smarter than the next person.China do not speak English and where are they??They do everything, even code in Chinese and they are on top of the world. I brought religion cause we want to believe what the white man tells us and follow his ways thereby losing our identity. We believe his way is better and our ways are evil To too many dumb fvcks that care to listen and educate themselves should make a little research before thinking cause they command the language more than others they are more intelligent.Do you know that some of the words that is being taught today are mispronunciations on the part of Queen herself.Where do you all think the term "Queens English" come from.Make a little research before elevating yourselves on the high level of ignorance 7 Likes |

Adiwana: I will overlook the insults and innuendos, Now as you said, there are thousands of languges around the world, true, but i care less about them, the Chinese use an official language yes, but do you know they have different dialects? no you dont, but they agreed to use a particular one to make it official which worked for them till today. In Nigeria, we have different languages, and some languages e.g. Yoruba, have different dialects, so please, school me if there is, but there is no language of ours that have words for codes and everything as you said, if you want us to start that, you can suggest it to FG to work on it, then they can decide on which language to use officially if other tribes will agree I am open to other valid points, but to me, English may not necessarily be an 100% measure for intelligence, but it takes a higher percentage of 80%. 12 Likes 1 Share |

Biglittlelois: Maybe you got me all wrong. So many factors such as diversity determine why a single language is chosen as a national language.Never was I against that. But to say that someone who doesn't speak fluently or speak at all that national language is less intelligent than you is blatant ignorance Leme break it down this way My roomate in Uni had a GP of 4.85 in Mechanical Engr before he left to study abroad.Dude barely spoke his mother tongue.Infact I taught him what he knew so far in the language. But does the fact that he barely knew what "come" was in his native tongue take away what he did with Mechanical calculations? Did it take away the fact that he was "intelligent" in others aspects of his studies??You answer that Another example.Take a case scenario. i am very good at mathematics, you are very good in English language. Can you take away my intelligence on the very fact that because I barely scratch through the surface of English,am not intelligent on the basis of Mathematics??If you think then because you speak and understand English as a language better than I do,then my question now is what is your definition of "intelligence" I personally like spanish language. Can say a few things in it.but you cannot say because I barely speak it,am less intelligent than the average Spanish speaker. French is an official language in Cameroon.Going by your logic, fluent speaking Cameroonians are 80% less intelligent than their Nigerian counterparts. And again,I painted a picture of the Chinese. World power but they do everything in their language. How then are they 80% less intelligent than the average Brit or American 4 Likes 1 Share |

LuvSwollenPussy:You can't speak Queen's English if you don't live in South-east England. So, Queen's English is a distinct type of English spoken in a limited geographical portion of England, not the entire country. |

Adiwana: My points are based on the officiall language of a Country, i'm not equating or comparing intelligence of two or more countries, your previous comments talked about mental slavery of whites and all, my points being that, English, the official language in Nigeria, has greater percentage when measuring intelligence, not our different languages or how fluent one is. 6 Likes 1 Share |

There are different indexes of measuring intelligence, and the ability to effortlessly master grammar rules and conventions, is a conclusive proof of being intelligent. English is just a language like any other, however, what scholars use to measure superior or inferior IQ language-wise is the degree of mastery of the language. It does not mean that those who are slow, or incapable of mastering these rules are dumb. On the contrary, it demonstrates that those who display deep levels of understanding have high quotient of language proficiency. This is an undisputed display of intelligence as it relates to language. Nigerians, especially those with tertiary education, have no justifiable reason to join the "mediocre herd" who impeach why people should be encourage (and, sometimes, chastised when they goofed) to speak and write flawlessly English. This is true for all British colonised states, that had adopted English as their lingua franca. And for the fact that English is the language of international politics and diplomacy. It is the first medium of communication in commerce and business, in communication, aviation, sports, etc. 9 Likes 1 Share |

English language can't be a measure of intelligence, first of all you need a proper definition of what intelligence entails... Bootylicious is a new word in English but my prof in English don't know the meaning, does it mean that he's not intelligent? I always get irritated when I see some of our athletes on international television struggling to speak English and failing spectacularly at it. If I was asked, they should express themselves in the language they are most comfortable in. It is up to the interviewer to look for translation Hong kong is colonized by the Britain,English is their lingua franca but their fluency in the language is abysmal. if English is a measure of intelligence why is wales,Scotland, England, new Zealand etc not more developed than China, Japan, Russia, Germany, France etc? China for instance is more economically viable than all European countries Cities like hong Kong, Beijing, Shanghai ,Guangzhou ,hangzou,Shenzhen wuhan ,sheyaung, chongquing, dongguan Tianjin ,hebei ,chengdu etc are far more developed than London and any city in England How come?? 1 Like 1 Share |

Adiwana: That's a different topic. This is actually an interesting debate, if all your life you've been exposed/taught everything you know with a particularly language, an intelligent person should be proficient in speaking and writing in such language. The bottom line is any Nigerian graduate that can't speak English language correctly will likely fail in expressing his/herself in the local language he/she belong to. 1 Like |

"the ability to acquire and apply knowledge and skills". These the definition of intelligence from google. Medical Definition of intelligence. 1a : the ability to learn or understand or to deal with new or trying situations. b : the ability to apply knowledge to manipulate one's environment or to think abstractly as measured by objective criteria (as tests). I wonder why people then measure fleuncy in English as a form of intelligence.. |

I'm wondering if these definitions are correct and some that have learnt a language for almost half of his/her life can't communicate with it Do you know language is a vocation ? Some are paid just to interpret from one language to another. One of my boss earns extra cash by teaching French 2 Likes |
