The more important question to ask is: Is having money a measure of intelligence? Is being broke a measure of lack of intelligence? |

Is Dangote dull ? Is he fluent in English. How about Adenuga. . It is a language, in which some people got properly groomed with it even from their childhood homes due to parents vastness. But NO, it's just a type /way of communication. |

Fluency in English is not necessarily a measure of intelligence. Although, there have been studies that have shown a relationship with fluency in a language and overall intelligence. It's not an exact science. |

English is not a measure of intelligence. The ability to seek and have knowledge and also apply that knowledge in any language and form is a measure of intelligence. |

martineverest:you should say they are high achiever as intelligence is found everywhere in the world. infact an uneducated man can be more intelligent than a professor because intelligence means a test of in-born brain-power. Educationist knows this. |

How can speaking English equate to intelligence? I am the only black in my office, my English is not smooth compare to my colleagues but I know I am competent on the job just like any other white and they know I have the technical ability to get my job done. They may express themselves way better but that does not mean they are smarter. Having social skill and confidence is far better for a man than speaking impeccable English. 4 Likes 2 Shares |

Knowing formal English or one's official language doesn't automatically mean being intelligent. Brilliance is different from intelligence. Intelligence is superior to brilliance. All one need to be brilliant is focus and dedication in the area of one's academic or formal interest. Take that boy called grammarnazi1 of nairaland for example. He is not intelligent, but he knows above average about grammar. 6 Likes 1 Share |

StylesX: If it's a measure of intelligence, how come our English teachers/lecturers, Professors, and all those who speaks English fluently ain't doing excellently in life endeavors. Articulation has nothing to do with intelligence. Intelligence is basically the ability to acquire and apply knowledge and skills, intelligence deals with discernment. I've met graduates who blows this grammar like sey tomorrow no dey, still on still, nothing to show for it. One na even conductor sef, some of dem babes are looking for yahoo boys to survive on. |

Re: Is Fluency In English Not Really A Measure Of Intelligence? by Nobody: 10:30am On Dec 19, 2018 |
StylesX:the ability to speak English is generally a function of association with people who speak this language. but fluency its a whole new ball game, fluency varies because some know how to construct sentences with words that are new to others .and this is mostly as a result of a wider range of knowledge, making that person seem smarter. that's why we expect academically bouyant people to speak good English.people like our professors, lectures, lawyers and governmental offices. |

The truth there my dear is that one might be opportune to associate to English people without being educated, he/she can speak English very fluently. That does not measure her level of intellect. Thanks |
Re: Is Fluency In English Not Really A Measure Of Intelligence? by Flawlessangel(m): 10:31am On Dec 19, 2018 |
It's like this. If you were taught to speak English in school up until you graduated and yet you can't speak good English or construct words properly then you are dull. No questions asked Now for those who never visited the four walls of a school, this does not apply to you as your measure of intelligence cannot judge by what u were never taught in the first place Good day 8 Likes |

Fash20: articulation is not also a measure of intelligence to be articulate means you have a good verbal ability and communication skills:there isnt much correlation between articulation and intelligence there are many people who are articulate when speaking but are stupid, naive and short-sighted. |
Re: Is Fluency In English Not Really A Measure Of Intelligence? by yasolan(m): 10:32am On Dec 19, 2018 |
Some of us still don't get these things. We are comparing an official English speaking nation to another nation whose official language isn't English for example China. A Chinese man living in China isn't saddled with the responsibility to speak English either on the average or at standard. And those talks about it being out colonial masters and mental slavery bullshit. Goddammit!! ![]() Why would someone after passing through the 6-3-3-4 system of education still not be able to speak or write good english(at least devoid of spelling errors). A born and bred Nigerian still living in Nigeria, should be able to write and speak good english. Good day. 10 Likes 2 Shares |
