No one says he's not good. He's a very good defender, IMO the best in the EPL currently. However, for you to be compared to such legends, you need to be consistently good for a number of seasons and pick up a few trophies along the way.

The hype is what we have to live with, there's a serious dearth of great central defenders right now. It shouldn't take anything away from his quality, he is better than all 'fukefuke' lindeglove-lapot type of defenders we have around.

All clubs gamble while signing a player no matter the cost. Klopp has good eyes for quality cbs, as seen when he worked with Hummels. He hadn't shown interest in Van Dijk, when i fought some Chelsea fans here that i preferred him at 60m to Rudiger at 35m. The quality had always been there since, other teams were just foolish not to act faster. It was a sensible gamble.
