Entry 1: Getting Approved On Upwork In 5 minutes!

As I was writing the intro to the challenge, I had another tab opened where I was creating my new upwork account.

I got approved even before finishing the intro post.

If you've been getting rejected, your rejection days are over.

This is the first real value bomb I will be giving you.

I see a lot of people complain and tear out their hair here about getting rejected.

I know how it feels. But there's a very simple formula to getting approved instantly.

So simple my mom went through my steps and got approved. She is a total noob at this. She doesn't even know how to open a tab on google chrome.

Okay, that sentence up there isn't true. But you get the gist.

Basically a very dumb monkey can do this.

So you can do this!

Entry 2: Getting Approved on Upwork in 5 minutes

So this is how I got approved on Upwork this morning.

Let’s start from the top and work down the profile creation.

Sorry for lack of screenshots. You still get this done without them.

Step-by-Step Guide On Getting Approved on Upwork in 5 minutes

1) Create an Account:

Sign up and create an Account.

Don’t feck around here.

Put in Your real name and email address.

Put in your real country. Don’t lie.

Say you are Nigerian. It’s fine.

Upwork will verify at some point.

Next step, select that you want to work as a FREELANCER.

Click the button that says you accept their terms.

First part done.

2.) What are the main services you offer to client?

You will be asked what services you offer to client on the next page.

Let’s just go with an example here:

Sales and Marketing.

Now, here’s where you need to start listening carefully.

The skill you pick doesn’t matter as long as you can prove your value with said skill throughout the rest of your profile.

After you pick a general skill, you will be asked about the type of work you do within that skill. In this section you can choose up to 4 types of work.

Please just choose one.

So for Sales and Marketing we have the following types of work to choose from:

- Display Advertising
- Email and Marketing Automation
- Lead Generation
- Market & Customer research
- Public Realtions
- Search engine Marketing
- Search Engine Optimization
- Social Media Marketing
- Telemarketing & Telesales


You have to chose something related to the skill you have chosen.

Im using Sales & Marketing as an example so a related work type is....

Social Media Marketing.

This is important.

You must pick a work type that has the service in the name.

We picked Sales & Marketing and Social Media Marketing has Marketing in it.

So main service: Sales & Marketing
Work Type: Social Media Marketing

Continuing down, you’ll choose your skill.

You pick one skill.

And make sure it relates to your main service and work type.

See a pattern?

Don’t blow this part or you’ll get rejected.

Gara!

Everything should be related.

You should be backing up your main service with every entry.

So a skill I might pick will with our example will be:

Facebook Marketing.

You see how it all ties together.

Marketing is used in all piece of information I’m providing.

This is the one thing you have to do to get approved.


3) Choose Experience Level

Choose Intermediate.

It’s what I chose and got accepted.

4) Tell Us more about you

On the next page upload a photo.

Use a real picture of you.

A headshot.

Take the picture preferably outside under sunlight.

Remember to smile.

A headshot, remember. Clear and not blurry. Clear.


5)Add a professional Title

It should be obvious now.

You pick something related to your service, work type and skill.

A good title here will be:

Facebook Marketing Expert.

Here are some other things to keep in mind:

- Keep your Title short. 3 words or less.

- Make it something people will search for.

Anything else and you’ll get rejected hard.

Keep it simple, direct and tie it in to everything.

6) Your Bio

- Describe your strength and skills.

- Highlights projects, accomplishments and education.

- Make sure it’s error free.

Simple, right?

But here’s where most people Eff it up.

Here’s a sample of how you should go about this:

Hi my name is Fred and I’m a professional Facebook Marketer with 4 years of Agency work. I have a bachelor’s degree in Marketing. Over the last 4 years, I have worked with large and small marketing agencies. During that time, I have honed my skills in managing profitable Facebook ad campaigns for clients. I’ve worked on projects that have generated over $100,000 in sales for my clients. Managing successful Facebook Ad Campaign is tricky and can be overwhelming. Most people don’t see a return on their ad spend. There’s a lot of moving parts and optimization parts that most people can’t keep up with. This is where I come in. I will help you manage and optimize your Facebook ad campaigns that will turn a profit for you and keep them that way. It doesn’t matter what niche you are in. 7) Education and Work History

Below your Bio you will have the chance to add your education and work history.

Fill this out.

Don’t ever leave it blank.

If you only have a high school, use it.

If you took a Facebook course In Ikeja this one time, add it.

Try and make your degree tie in with all your areas, skills, work types, service etc.

Set your Proficiency Level

Set your proficiency level as the ‘Native or Biliangual’ option.

9) Set your hourly rate

Set your hourly rate at $40 dollars.

This is a sweet spot I have seen gets you approved. Too low and you might get denied. Too high and you also might get denied.

Just go with $40.

10) Add your availability and location

Choose ‘More than 30hrs/week’.

Doesn’t matter if you don’t have that much time.

Upwork wants available Freelancers.


11) What type of projects are you interested in

Choose ‘Both Longer and Short term projects’

Upwork wants flexible freelancers.

Show them that’s you.

Next put in a real address.

Don’t game things here.

Plus you can’t get paid without correct info.

Then enter your phone number next.

You will get sent a verification code.

Whew.

Made it to the end!


All you gonna do now is click ‘submit application’ and see what happens.

If you are having issues getting approved on Upwork it’s not the end of the world. Here are other top tier freelancing platform you can easily get approved on:

Peopleperhour.com
Freelancer.com
Fiverr.com

I have also heard good things about guru.com

I will keep adding to this list as we move up the challenge.

These platforms will also work for this challenge so don’t worry if you can’t get approved on Upwork.

You should be approved very easily on these platforms. Make sure you still follow my guide I outlined in the first post.

You can make money on these platforms too just as much as you can on Upwork. Though Upwork is the biggest freelance platform with the highest quality of clients but these platforms hold their own too.
