Kenya is not really doing so bad for an African country. Here are my reasons, Kenya is far smaller than both Nigeria and Tanzania with less mineral rescources, yet they manage to do well in many development indexes.

~~~Kenya's backlash I think is extreme uneven development and strong foreign ownership in their economy. Kenya might have a comparatively large east African economy on paper, but a huge chunk of this wealth is not benefitted or owned by black Kenyans.

++++ Tanzania is no different from Kenya in this regard. Both countries have never experienced civil war, decades of military rule and series of coups. They should be doing far better than they are doing.

What can Ghana produce that they want to compete with us? Ghanians are free to export their goods to Nigeria but we will not allow Europe use that avenue to cajole us into signing agreement that will crumble our manufacturing industry.

West African states have nothing to lose except Nigeria because we will be competing with Europe.

Our shoe industry almost collapsed this year because we opened the door for cheap China made shoes.

We can't compete with these countries.

Nigeria has the biggest tomatoes paste factory and it is the fourth largest in the world. This is owned by a Nigerian and not foreigners.

Point of correction, Tourism is a relative term. Traditional tourism Kenya thumps Nigeria hands down. But tourism defined widely in terms $ dollars coming into Nigeria, Nigeria thumps Kenya.
