CAS CONDUCTS ASSESSMENT VISITS TO KATSINA, ZAMFARA, SOKOTO STATES AS NAF PREPARES TO DEPLOY AIRCRAFT TO SOKOTO TO BOOST AIR OPERATIONS IN NORTHWEST

The Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar, yesterday, 26 December 2018, visited Katsina, Zamfara and Sokoto States to carry out on-the-spot assessment of the security situation in the 3 States. During the visits, the CAS paid courtesy calls on the State Governors and interacted with the Commanders, officers and men of Nigerian Air Force (NAF) Units in the States. The CAS, who was accompanied by other senior officers from Headquarters NAF, embarked on the visit with a view to fashioning new strategies for dealing with the emerging security threats in States of the Northwest affected by the menace of armed banditry. The first port of call was Katsina, which hosts the Headquarters of the Air Task Force (HQ ATF) of Operation DIRAN MIKIYA (OPDM), where the CAS was briefed by the Air Officer Commanding Special Operations Command, Air Vice Marshal (AVM) Samson Akpasa, as well as the ATF Commander, Air Commodore Ayoola Jolasinmi, on the progress of anti-armed banditry operations in the Northwestern States, before proceeding to Gusau, Zamfara State.

The visit to Zamfara State began with a courtesy call on the Acting Governor of the State, the Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Alhaji Sanusi Rikiji, at Government House Gusau, where the CAS commiserated with the families of those killed in recent attacks as well as the government and entire people of Zamfara State. He stated that he was there to assess the situation in the State with a view to evolving strategies and emplacing more effective structures and air assets in support of the operations to deal with the threat. He reported that he had visited HQ ATF OPDM which also served as the Air Component of Operation SHARAN DAJI (OPSD) and would also visit the NAF 119 Forward Operating Base (119 FOB) Sokoto with a view to upgrading facilities there to enable the conduct of air operations from Sokoto, for enhanced NAF response capability in dealing more decisive blows on the armed bandits. He thanked the government and people of Zamfara State for their support to the NAF and other security agencies but requested for the provision of relevant information that would help in improving the effectiveness of security operations. The CAS assured the Governor and residents of the State that the NAF, in consonance with the Nigerian Army (NA) and other security agencies, would continue to work round the clock to ensure security of lives and properties of the local population.

In his response, the Acting Governor expressed appreciation for the CAS’ visit noting that the security agencies had been doing their best to curtail the activities of the armed bandits in the State, especially since the commencement of OPDM and the recent Operation 777 under OPSD. He noted however that it appeared the armed bandits were reacting to the tremendous successes of these operations by launching a fresh wave of attacks against innocent civilians. He said, as a result, killings and kidnappings had become daily affairs. He therefore welcomed and appreciated the show of concern by President Muhammadu Buhari. He said the State Government would support all actions that would be taken to restore peace and stability. The Governor equally condoled the CAS over the death of NAF personnel who had paid the supreme price in the course of discharging their duties within the State. The visit to Zamfara ended at the 207 Quick Response Group (207 QRG) Gusau, where the CAS interacted with the Commander and personnel of the Group as well as other senior officers.

The CAS and his entourage then proceeded to Sokoto where he paid a courtesy call on the Executive Governor of the State, the Right Honourable Aminu Tambuwal, at Government House Sokoto. The CAS briefed the Governor that he was in the State to critically appraise the security situation in order to determine what could be done to enhance NAF operations. He disclosed that the NAF would upgrade its facilities with a view to deploying platforms and equipment to enable the 119 FOB begin to conduct air operations from the Sultan Abubakar III Airport, in support of the anti-banditry operations in the area. He said the NAF had already commenced arrangements to provide fuel facilities similar to those already provided in Katsina and Gusau. Air Marshal Abubakar highlighted that the Service was now better positioned to more effectively and efficiently employ air power because the Federal Government had facilitated the acquisition of 18 brand new aircraft, with another 18 being expected, whilst also facilitating the reactivation of 13 erstwhile unserviceable ones within the last 3 years.

In his response, the Sokoto State Governor while welcoming the CAS to the State, said his Government had been doing it’s best to maintain peace in the State but was gradually coming under intense pressure as a result of the activities of armed bandits along the Sokoto-Zamfara boundary. He also highlighted the recent influx of some foreign fighters from Mali comprising Arabs, Tuaregs, Hausas and Fulanis in Balle Village of Gudu Local Government Area, which he said had been dealt with, in close coordination with the heads of security agencies in the State along with the Governor of Tahou Region of Niger Republic. He thanked the Federal Government for the efforts of the NAF, NA and other security agencies in ensuring peace in the State and pledged continued support to the various units. The Governor equally expressed appreciation to President Muhammadu Buhari for the immense show of concern to the people of the State.

The CAS later interacted with the Commander and personnel of 119 FOB as well as other senior officers in the State, where he encouraged them to intensify their efforts in order to ensure that the territorial integrity of Nigeria is not undermined in any way. He also appealed to the good people of Sokoto State to provide useful information that would help security agencies in their operations. Before departing Sokoto, Air Marshal Abubakar commissioned a newly completed water treatment plant at NAF Base Sokoto. He was also conducted on an inspection tour of facilities at Sultan Abubakar III Airport, by the Air Officer Commanding Tactical Air Command, AVM Oladayo Amao, preparatory to the massive deployment of NAF aircraft to further boost air operations in the Northwest.

CAS CELEBRATES CHRISTMAS WITH FRONTLINE TROOPS IN MAIDUGURI, CHARGES THEM TO REMAIN FOCUSED

The Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar, has charged Nigerian Air Force (NAF) frontline troops to remain focused while maintaining the highest level of vigilance and combat readiness to guarantee the security of Nigeria and Nigerians. The CAS gave the charge today, 25 December 2018, while hosting troops of the Air Task Force (ATF) Operation Lafiya Dole to a Christmas Day Luncheon in Maiduguri. The Luncheon, which has become a tradition in the NAF, is held during major festivities to appreciate the troops and alleviate the pains of their inability to celebrate with their families. According to the CAS, such get-togethers also help to foster comradeship while providing an avenue to commend the efforts of all those involved in the fight against insurgency.

Speaking further, the CAS, who was represented by the Chief of Policy and Plans (COPP) NAF Headquarters, Air Vice Marshal (AVM) Mohammad Muhammad, expressed delight to be in Maiduguri to celebrate with the troops. He reminded them of the need to sustain their efforts in order to ensure lasting peace and stability in the Northeast and other parts of Nigeria. According to him, "we all are aware that so much is at stake for us in this war against insurgency. As such, we cannot allow ourselves to be taken unawares. While thanking God for his mercies and keeping us alive to see this celebration, I appreciate all your efforts and that of our families for their unending support", he added. The CAS also seized the opportunity to thank the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Nigeria, President Muhammadu Buhari, for providing the resources that enabled the NAF to effectively perform its constitutional roles. He pledged the determination of the troops to reciprocate by remaining disciplined and exhibiting the highest level of professionalism in the discharge of their duties.

Earlier in his welcome address, the ATF Commander, AVM James Gwani, expressed the gratitude of officers and men of the ATF to the CAS for his commitment to the morale and welfare of the personnel as well as for providing the necessary facilities and enabling environment that ensured effective and efficient mission accomplishment all through the year. Appart from the officers and airmen/airwomen and civilian staff of the ATF, the Bulama and some other members of the host community of Gomari were also present at the Luncheon. A similar event is scheduled to hold in Yola on Boxing Day.

CHRISTMAS AND NEW YEAR 2018 GOODWILL MESSAGE FROM LIEUTENANT GENERAL TY BURATAI NAM OMM(BR) GSS psc(+) ndc(BD) FCMH FNHAM BA(Hons) MA Mphil CHIEF OF ARMY STAFF TO OFFICERS AND SOLDIERS OF THE NIGERIAN ARMY

1. It is with utmost humility and gratitude to the Almighty that I send this goodwill message to officers, soldiers and indeed the Nigerian Army family on the Christmas and New Year Celebrations. Let me use this opportunity to commend the efforts and sacrifices of our gallant officers and men currently engaged in the counter insurgency operations in the North East and other operations across the country and abroad. I congratulate you for your bravery, doggedness and loyalty in these endeavours. I want to urge you all to maintain the momentum and remain steadfast as we continue to professionally and responsively carry out our constitutional roles. On my part, I would continue to ensure that troops’ welfare and that of their families, remains my utmost priority.

2. As you are all aware, the election period is by the corner, hence I am admonishing you to continue to remain apolitical and dedicated to your assigned roles. Let me use this medium to reassure you of the Federal Government’s commitment to your welfare with the requisite support for us to perform our duties. Also, the President, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, President Muhammadu Buhari has pledged his total support to the Armed Forces to bring all ongoing operations to logical conclusion.

3. This festive season heralds peace as well as a time for merriment, sober reflection and introspection. I enjoin us all to continue to pray to the Almighty God for the repose of the souls of our fallen comrades and for peace in our nation. We will not renege on our promise to cater for the wellbeing of the families of our brave fallen heroes. I urge all our troops in the Counter Insurgency Operations in the North East to be very wary of Boko Haram Terrorists increasing misinformation and propaganda. It is evident that, you have defeated the Boko Haram Terrorists. Thus, they have now resorted to employing propaganda in order to demoralise you by spreading false messages of strength and invincibility. It is pertinent for troops to understand that Boko Haram Terrorists are nothing but a band of criminals. Therefore, you must all brace up to clear and flush out their remnants. We have superior training, fire power and experience. We have a history of successes on the battlefield both at home and abroad. This must be reflected in all our operations. I thank you all for the good job you have done in 2018 and look forward to us making greater progress in 2019.

4. I wish you all a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

UPDATE ON BOKO HARAM TERRORISTS ATTACK ON HEADQUARTERS 7 BRIGADE MNJTF BAGA

Please recall that yesterday, Wednesday 26th December 2018 suspected Boko Haram terrorists attacked the headquarters of 7 Brigade Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF), Baga, Borno State, at about 7.00pm. The troops along with their Nigerian Navy counterparts put up a very determined fight to repel the attack throughout the night, while Sector 3 Operation LAFIYA DOLE sent in reinforcement who are in hot pursuit of the terrorists. The president ,
Federal Republic of Nigeria .

Letter of Request
On behalf of all Nigeria Youth Corps I write to solicit for your approval in deployment of all corps member to Northern part of Nigeria.

President Muhammadu Buhari please ask NYSC DG To Deploy Corp Members To Fight Boko Haram.
Your Excellency sir, meet with the DG NYSC in order to send NYSC Corp members to North East region to support the Military in fighting Boko Haram.
The Nigerian Military has been over powered by the deadly Militia terrorist group and thus the need for extra support.
The Corp members should be empowered with sophisticated weapon to withstand the fire power of Boko Haram.

Nigeria ours, Nigeria we Serve.

Together we shall move to the Next Level.

We shall appreciate if our request is honour.

Thanks
