BREAKING: Boko Haram insurgents are currently attacking Kekeno, a town close to Monguno — the home of National Security Adviser, Babagana Monguno. SaharaReporters understands that Kekenou has been dislodged, and the insurgents are now approaching Monguno.

It's evident that BH is just attacking any military formations to harvest and gather weapons
I spent over 2 years in that vilkage. Kekeno's total population before the BH menace is not up to 500, not far from Niger & Chad republic.

Latest report on Baga is that hundreds of soldiers (reportedly 700 soldiers) are missing, and about 2000 are trapped. The MNJTF headquarters was allegedly burnt down.

The missing soldiers will soon report to the nearest military post. Confirmed source has it that BH as already left Baga, carting away with large caches of weapons & Ammunition. And a lot of hardware burnt and destroyed.

Civilians where not affected and casualties on the military side is not serious.

Meanwhile commander in chief is in Akwa-Ibom state waving hand and begging for votes, while 100’s of his soldiers possibly just got emancipated from a 24 siege in Baga, what if friendly forces didn’t arrive on time to chase those Boko boys away ?

All those highly trained “naval counterparts” that Na mentioned in their press release (sbs obviously) would have been wasted ?

I tire, this is my understand of the situation anyways not facts.

It's where I have been for the past few weeks. It was really tactical and again you would think these guys have access to military locations. It started with infiltration by small units which was being repelled by troops. Immediately it got so consistent, there was several chatter On radio from and Intel on consistent attack at several units so everyone had to prepare. They came hard, shifted military attention and rounded us up. Some concentrated on denying us advances while larger numbers moved in on MNJTF troops and the naval base. The fight had no direction and after few hours. We had to start flying flag several tactics to avoid blue on blue on convoy. Picked up several NA guys too. Heard there's casualty at MNJTF but no idea on the naval base.

The town still stands but MNJTF was overrunned and now in our hands. Their aim was simple because there was a "very sudden retreat" by those we were engaging. I guess this happened after looting what they wanted.

The airforce disengaged several of them too.

SF in consistent engagement. Doesn't sound too good everytime.

NAF AND ALLIED AIR FORCES SUPPORT TROOPS TO REPEL TERRORIST ATTACKS IN BAGA

It may be recalled that the Headquarters 7 Brigade Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF) Baga came under attack by members of the Islamic State of West Africa Province (ISWAP) on the evening of 26 December 2018. Upon receipt of the information of the attack, the Air Task Force (ATF) of Operation LAFIYA DOLE immediately dispatched a Nigerian Air Force (NAF) Intelligence Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) platform along with 2 Mi-35M Helicopter Gunships to provide support for the troops to repel the attack. The NAF ISR aircraft, which was overhead the troops location as at 7.15pm, also worked closely with a Nigerien Air Force and another allied ISR aircraft that were also in the operation area at the time of the attack. The ISR platforms were in contact with the ground troops and assisted in directing their fire against the terrorists, while the helicopter gunships engaged the terrorists at isolated locations destroying some of their vehicles and neutralizing some fighters.

The ATF also provided support for Nigerian Army (NA) and Nigerian Navy (NN) troops at the Naval Base at Doron Baga, which equally came under attack by ISWAP fighters on the morning of 27 December 2018. The ATF deployed 2 ISR platforms, 2 Helicopter Gunships and 2 Alpha Jet aircraft to provide ISR and close air support to the troops. After establishing communication with the ground troops, the location of the terrorists was ascertained and engaged by the Alpha Jet aircraft. The NAF and allied ISR platforms also spotted 2 ISWAP vehicles heading southwards from Baga and vectored the Alpha Jet aircraft to attack the vehicles, completely destroying one of them and neutralizing the occupants. In order to enhance the quality of coordination between the air and ground operations, the Theatre Commander and Maritime Component Commander were carried onboard the ISR platform during one of the flights. In all, the ATF conducted 20 missions in 21 sorties with a total of about 39 hours flown on 26 and 27 December in support of operations in Baga general area. A short video clip showing highlights of the support provided on 26 and 27 December 2018, along with a Battle Damage Assessment (BDA) video showing parts of the successful attack on the terrorists’ vehicles, is attached.

The NAF appreciates the existing synergy with our gallant surface forces as well as our Regional Allies in adding value to our collective efforts to protect our territory and people.

The military has to change from being on the defensive to being aggressive. Higher calibre weapons should be provided to the troops. Weapons with long ranges are also very important. We need to out range the terrorists. The Air Force should be involved in reconiasance. Every company of men greater than 12 in number is a potential threat. Any vehicle moving at high speed towards a checkpoint is a potential VBIED. What happened to the units with motorbikes. What happened to the artillery units? And these attacks coming just few weeks to election.......

UPDATE ON BOKO HARAM TERRORISTS ATTACK ON HEADQUARTERS 7 BRIGADE MNJTF BAGA
Please recall that yesterday, Wednesday 26th December 2018 suspected Boko Haram terrorists attacked the headquarters of 7 Brigade Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF), Baga, Borno State, at about 7.00pm. The troops along with their Nigerian Navy counterparts put up a very determined fight to repel the attack throughout the night, while Sector 3 Operation LAFIYA DOLE sent in reinforcement who are in hot pursuit of the terrorists. Similarly, a Search and Rescue team has been constituted.

The Nigerian Air Force component has also been mobilised and are engaging the fleeing terrorists. Unfortunately, a naval personnel was killed in action. So far, no further details of casualties yet as efforts are on going to clear the terrorists hiding in Baga and environs.

We enjoin all to remain calm as the troops conduct clearance and mop up operations. We implore members of the general public to disregard any contrary information circulating on the attack. We will keep you posted with development on the pursuit and mop up operations.

You are please requested to disseminate this information to the public through your medium.

Thank you for your kind cooperation.

Retire buratai ... Appoint people from all sections of the country in the security and defence sector, not just the northern Muslims. Patriotism must start with the president. Things are not going well at all, Boko Haram seems to have the upper hand right now. Let us face it, buratai is one of the most corrupt officers the Nigerian army has ever had, although corruption is a Nigerian tradition and Nigerian soldiers are Nigerians.
