naija used kia rio cost from 500 upwards. buy one for 600 or 650 use the remaining balance to fix to your taste and work begins.

its fuel efficient, reliable and maintenance friendly. Business is not about what you like or want but what you need, the passat especially nigerian used isn't advice able considering your budget
Mr Nurey, I saw a Kia Rio for 500k but it was a manual tranny, that was the discouragement. Do u advice it for a first timer, personal use?

If I see a 2009 kia Rio manual 500k and Auto 700k I would pick the manual jejely, but that is me not you.

A manual has some advantage over auto in aspect of maintenance and incase you are not paying for a professional inspection then a manual transmission is the best bet.

But cramps is real, I have had cramps driving auto in lagos traffic and I had to make due with my left leg imagine having cramps with manual, then you have to park by fire by force.

Choosing a manual over Auto is a decision one has to make due to some circumstances

1. Finance

2. Car type I will prefer a manual nissan altima than Auto (cvt)

Etc

Tnx for d concise analysis. I'm going to be new to driving when I acquire a car by GOD'S grace. Availability and affordability of parts, fuel economy n easy maintenance are reasons for my decision. So, u think auto Rio wouldn't serve?

As a new car owner I'd advice a W202 C180. Nothing to fix. Great fuel economy... Not a thieves magnet. Extreme reliability and dependability

Auto or manual would serve you well. if your movement is traffic to and fro please better stick to automatic especially when you are 40+ to avoid pajapaja grin

ES350 is a premium Camry. More reliable, parts are also more expensive. It drives better, though, and is way more luxurious.

The only tokunbo bus in that price range is VW vanagon/transporter if you are lucky and get the long chassis variant it can be fitted with 4 seats that can seat 4 people each, but the short chassis can accommodate only 3 seats of 4 people.

other vehicles in such class are

kia pregio don't know how easy you will get it

There are 2 other benz bus like that too but I have forgotten their name

benz vito

thank you so much for your reply,

please I decided to top my budget to 1.5m

please I have few questions?

1. can I get a Nigeria used Toyota hiace 2000 (the 18 seaters) at that amount?
2. when buying a Nigeria used, what should I look out for? to avoid stories that touch?
3. is the parts and maintenance affordable?
4. if there is any other substitute, please recommend

1. Yes it is within your budget range.

2. engine and body in general, those vehicles have gone through thick and thin and body would start giving way, ensure the specimen you are buying has body intact. Also due to engine location ensure the engine is not on its last leg.

3. I have not used the bus before and it is been phased out I can't give you a heads up on parts but maintenance shouldn't be an headache for owner and mechanic.

4. With 1.5m I would just go and buy tokunbo long chassis VW transporter or the VW LT35 this will ensure the engine and car is still in mint condition, less breakdown on first year of use, no much work for the driver, you will recover some funds after a year to buy another.

some other identical vehicle you can check their tokunbo price if it falls within your budget

Is there anything I will regret if I choose ES350 08/09 model ahead of Camry 2010?
Meanwhile I am coming from a Mercedes 2000 and Camry 04 family. About 14 years experience in driving and above 40years of age.
Runs within Onitsha and a monthly travel of about 80k to the village.

Thanks

Good. Those engines aren't the sturdiest, from what I've heard, though. But maintenence is very cheap, suspension parts are way more durable than the equivalent Corolla's, for example. Feel free to buy one in good shape.

Thank you. Please more details on the engine.

What do you professionals mean by "lemon"

it's a general word. When a car is referred as lemon, it has some hidden faults that don't manifest on the surface until you pay for the ride and then it breakdown along the road grin

Reason why a professional inspection is needed to ascertain condition of a car before purchase.

The most popular lemon word in nigeria is "AC needs gas only" tongue

Buy the Passat. Ultimate driving experience. Ensure you have a sound tech to fix it for you. Especially the 4 cylinders variants

Thank you!! This is what i want to hear.

But can you tell me more about passat cos someone said they usually have electrical issues or something like that.

Good to be on this thread. I am a newbie when it comes to cars. I have never used or bought any car but I intend to get one sometimes next year.

I am considering 2 major options. The Benz 08 E350 4Matic or the LEXUS ES350 08.

I need professional advice on which one to get. I will really appreciate a detailed explanation and advice. Thanks
Re: The Official Car Comparison/Recommendation Thread by Dovehorizon: 1:24pm On Dec 31, 2018
For a newbie, I would suggest u stay away from passat, when the issue starts u might regret it.
With 800k u can get a sound 2005 civic and still have some change left, 800k will get you a 2004 camry but certainly there would be one or two things to fix, kia Rio is also a good car but I would prefer the civic to it when it comes to maintenance.

Help!!!
I'm a newbie with plans to get a car by January 2019. With a budget of 800k, which car (fit for taxify) can I get??
I have Passat / camry 03-05 / Honda(EOD or civic) in mind.

PS: I love Volkswagen Passat but dont know much about it yet.

Any suggestions or opinions will be appreciated.

As a newbie, go for the Lexus, it's cheaper than the Benz not just in price but in maintenance, if the price and maintenance isn't a factor, then go for the Benz.

thank you so much for your reply, but the problem is that the bus am to buy is to be used as a school bus, the Volkswagen is good but its exactly the one agbero people used and it's not good for school bus as it's not even comfortable,

kia pregio is good but it's like it's scarce.

Mazda looks scarce

please how about Mitsubishi L300?? in terms of comfort, price, maintainance, availability of specs,

I don't understand your meaning of "not comfortable" the VW has AC I have even seen schools use it as bus though the T5 is used more than LT35.

Yes the kia pregio is scarce of course due to its availability in Asia, we don't import much used vehicle from there.

The Mazda is not scarce but expensive starting at around 2.5m a good used one still cost an arm and a leg only the over used one is cheap at that it's hot cake for transporters for interstate in southwest.

The L300 is good but it's ages since I saw 18 seater variant it's mostly short chassis I see all around.

What of the Nissan Urvan is that one too out of your budget?

You can also checkout all those hiace copycat from China, but like you said it's school bus, you need it in top shape the children won't be living in it for life so anything to get them from home to school on time is the highest priority as time goes on you can begin adding luxury option etc.

please if you have a contact where I can buy the tokumbo Volkswagen Transporter please kindly drop.

one more question sir, how is the maintenance? how is affordability of parts? how is fuel consumption? can it travel long distance? (just In case it wants to)

what's the bad side of the bus?? the disadvantages if I may say. thank you again for everything
