I should have sent this many months ago. I had it all scripted then. I wrote it with so much anger but now, I'm writing this piece with peace and of course, a better understanding.

Then, it was one of my male friends that mentioned something sinister about career women. If you know me well enough, you should know issues like this push me into talking--- I won't call it arguing. It pushes me into a defensive state where the attorney part of me comes to play.

I know you want to read this already. Who is a career woman?

Before that... Can we like ask if there's something like career man? Or should we assume every man is a career man? OK. Every man is a career man. Assumed!

Few weeks ago, I was speaking to a friend. I've actually forgotten how the discussion started but I remember him telling me he must make money before he get married. I mean. I know. That's what all men do. They at least get specific things prepared for their future families. They build houses, buy cars etc. They obviously do what's necessary so they could live well. Then, you should have seen me raised my brows like 'why can't ladies too?'

I know the ladies ain't restricted from making money. But they have been restricted by how the societies view single rich women. I heard some guys get intimidated by successful women. I heard because I have not seen. This and many other reactions has made some ladies cut short their dreams. They belittle themselves so they can complement a man. However, there is an obvious mistake women do when making a career choice. Don't jeopardize your family life for a career choice. Don't neglect one for another. The two can agree. Men have careers too. They get very busy. Still, they have families. At the end of the day, when it's all dark and void, you have your family to keep you. You as a lady can have it all too. You can train those kids and still be a boss at what you do. The world is evolving and it needs strong women to do it's biddings.

And also, the young and upcoming career conscious lady, don't you ever be afraid to get to the pinnacle of your dreams. Pastor Sam Adewuyi said 'at whatever level you find yourself, there's a man/woman there for you'. So please, aspire great. Take that big break and launch. Someone who appreciates you will meet you. It's not for you to worry about.

You know what I tell people about myself? I know myself and I am just so sure of who I am. My self esteem can never be dragged and I can never be intimidated by people's wealth. I am too busy preparing for mine. Ladies. In my own world, I believe you can have it all. You are sufficient. You are not limited. You are enough. You are a woman and you'll make it. It's time for boss duties. Be simple yet classy.

Let me close with this. ' I have seen women that have achieved much without having to bend over. I will tell you this. If you as a lady refuse to utilize your brain, someone who can try will utilize you.'


PS: I'm posting this in the romance section intentionally because of the crowd it pulls.

I'm not disputing the fact that most ladies sleep their way to success. It happens. If you had read clearly, I said I've seen women that have achieved much without having to bend over. I've seen. And if they could do it, every other ladies who have self respect can also do it. It doesn't change anything. To each man his own.

Men are leaders. Good. I've seen women leaders too. It's not unusual and it's not impossible.

Attempt at generating traffic? Sighs. I do have a blog so I could put my write ups on it. I don't blog for a living. People who love how I write can visit my blog. They are under no obligation whatsoever. It's a channel to reach out and I would love to have as many readers as possible. If that's called traffic, then, I agree.

An adage says what a man can do, there is a woman out there who is equal to the task. I love your write up and I pray and hope your fellow ladies will read and digest it to the fullest so it can break that mentality of being dependent on men. I love career woman so much when I see one. Women like Okonjo Iweala, Oby, Late Dora, Aminat, Alakija and the likes don't have two heads. Most of this women I mentioned have husbands and still on top of their career. Don't let anything or anyone drag you down and please watch your ego or pride as you climb the ladder... @op.... Preach sis!!!! I actually wanted to create a thread of this nature, but definitely not in Romance section. I can't stand alpha males ruining such a thread. On behalf of the sisterhood, I say thank you .

All that talk of women sleeping with men to get to the top, is something broke, low self-esteemed guys say to make themselves feel better. There must be an excuse to drag a woman down.

If you set your mind to it, you can do it.

My boss would say, you can't say Okonjo is your role model, whereas you follow Janemena on IG. Look at great women, read their story, how they started, the schools they went to, the books they read, the places they hang out, how they dress, how they talk. Then start your baby steps. Please, the only men afraid of career women are insecure men and we have lots of them in Nigeria. The good news is, the more you work on yourself as a woman, nature will systematically sieve these men out of your way.

Meanwhile, I will love to inform you categorically that men are not scared of successful career ladies, that must be in the past, in fact, majority of Nigerian men of today wish and desire to marry a successful career lady; myself included because I love seeing them.

The only thing men hate about most successful career or financially buoyant ladies is their pride, arrogance and disrespect for men just because they managed to succeed in what they do.

If successful men act the way successful ladies act, I am sure no lady will find a husband to ever marry.

So successful ladies should learn to manage their ego, their pride, their arrogance around their man or men.

You see a lady driving a nice car, watch how she puffs up as if the world should bow for her, but its the same car guys have been driving since ages and even buying for their girlfriends as gift yet nobody hears about it, yet these guys play with ladies and even act friendly with them.

But once a single lady stumbles upon or achieves some good level of financial success, she starts to make unnecessary rules and laws guys coming her way must abide, just because she feel she is financially independent, and for that every man coming her way becomes a potential criminal and suspect coming after her little income of money, these are the major reasons guys avoid successful single ladies, nothing more.

Happy new year to you guys, wish every ambitious and hardworking youth out there a fruitful and prosperous New Year!

As for being a feminist, I believe all humans have a right to be heard. Women get the short end of the stick. Especially in Africa.

I have family and I know what they go through as females. Plus, I believe that people need to live and learn anywhere but Nigeria.

There's a disgusting misogynistic culture in Nigeria. Just a look at the comments shows the hatred of spurned men; it's so shameful. How do Nigerian women cope with this? A man at a bank was threatening to slap a woman because she asked him if he was on the queue (a ratty pathetic looking man for that matter). His reason? while I like your post a candles that burns at both ends lives shorter.Those men with careers, don't have time for their families. Taking care of tge family and making sure your offspring are responsible members of a society is a full time career. Some women dream to have healthy families. Nothing is wrong with that and nothing is wrong with being a full time housewife. A full time housewife can also have a business empire
