Beginner At Web Development by HashtagMoniker(m): 4:20pm On Jan 02, 2019 |
Hello, guys. Good day to you all. I have made some plans for 2019 and one of them I really want to follow through is that I want to end this year on the road to being a Full Stack Developer. This is why I have come to ask for you guys advice, I know virtually nothing on programming and I'll like to get some recommendations from you on the language to start learning with, IDE to use and access to books or PDF files. Thank you all so much. I'll wait for the feedback. |

Do you recommend I start with HTML first, someone had earlier told me to start with JavaScript, he said the internet runs primarily on it. TheManofTomorrow: |

HashtagMoniker:Well it depends on ur choice of action. Google about about programming paths and you'll be more enlightened. But if you wish to delve into web development. You learn HTML and CSS first. HTML is the basic language of the web |

HashtagMoniker:Like everyone is saying start with html. U can use IDE like sublime or Visual studio or bracket. Visit w3schools.com , it will help u a lot. Makes friends with other experience developers and ask them questions when u are lost. Also watch alot of YouTube videos. Practice all the time and start working on projects as soon as possible cause u really can't learn it all. 1 Like |

Start with HTML...thats the rudiments of web programmingExactly, YouTube is always the best for learning. Just watch different ones and many of them. Books waste a lot of time with verbose technical words confusing you in the process before you even get anything done that could encourage you. |

Daejoyoung:programming requires focus. So do books. So using a book will force u to develop d skills of concentration and focus. Reading a book from cover to cover will build ur stamina-on-dry-task muscles. So use books, just for this aspect. If u like movies, watch boring movies,to develop stamina4patience. If u hate reading, read books that put u to sleep to build endurance. If u like spending, save nd strve ur desire to build self control. The microwave-it philosophy , learn x in y hours wont work in d long run. Infct, without stamina, you'll crumble when u encounter problems,e.g work that spans months! 1 Like |

asalimpo:l read books and it's important to read books, but YouTube first then books, would give you perfect practical understanding. When you watch a YouTube video and you keep watching several videos you get better, then you can move on to read books to get better understanding, this has saved me a lot in my academics, and makes me better everyday in programming. YouTube is one of the best inventions of mankind, when you watch several then you can read books and technical documentations with a clearer perspective when you have much time. Programming requires focus in the long run, and you would need stack overflow and books to help you out as you go along, but YouTube gets' beginners started at least. 2 Likes |

Daejoyoung:different strokes for different folks. I find most youtube videos to b poorly done. You have to sift thru so many videos to find one that his teaching fits ur learning style. 2) most authors dont complete their series. Mayb cuz the content isnt trendy. I see this in the area of esoteric languages. What these ppl dont know is that one person on the planet may just b interested in what they hav to offer. 3) most videos just arent deep enough. I downladed a very video on c. But after going thru a book,i could tell d difference. 4) videos do get u strted on the practical aspects. The step by step mechanical phases e.g how to use git- how to upload a website, how to setup your compiler/ide. Nothing beats videos. But say i want a video on java generics? You'll comb nd not see or if u see,it's not thorough enough cuz author has to keep it short in other not to turn off viewers. 5) compared to books, videos are more expensive-by far. A pdf is like a few double digit mb a video of 1hr is in hundreds of mb. 10 hrs gigs, 100hrs?! The issue with books is that,it takes a long time to say something. You wade thru tonnes of verbiage to get to d point. But a video will hit d nail on d head succintly. So,u learn to read smarter. E.g wen learning java using deitel, i found it too verbose,so i just read d codes nd skipped the explanations. To date,i learnt all i needed without d wordy explanations. The deitels are terrible at book authoring. Books are also well thought out nd written than videos. I still reference bruce eckel's book, even though it was last updated in 2005! With chapter nd contents outlined,it's easier to go straight to a topic. Hard with videos. In summary, videos are the trend now, most ppl who wouldnt read a book go for videos. Videos are excellent for step by step mechanical learning. Books for more theoretical/abstract /dry/boring concepts. A book packs far more information per size than a video. Books ,in the fast paced i.t field get obsolete quickly. Videos, well, videos are always more current on issues. There's a caveat though: in the web dev field, videos are plentiful. Some are very good and well made. Almost all aspects of webdev can b learnt via videos now. |
