For your information a twin engine airplane like the AZMAN Airplane can comfortably fly on just one engine operating. As a matter of fact, the take-off and landing performance calculations of a flight are always based on just one engine, assuming the most penalizing situation (i.e, one engine failing out of the two during take-off or landing ). These calculations are made during the preparation of the flight plan in the flight dispatch by a approved flight dispatcher.

A friend of mine was in it. She said the whole story. The plane lost an engine mid air. It was AZMAN airline.

I read through the posts and couldn't find anything concrete as regard what happened. All I could read was passengers crying.

What actually happened?
Ok lost an engine out of 2. That's not a big deal, cos they didn't lose the 2. The engines are turbine like, just like the gas turbine we use in electricity supply. They are manufactured to be very strong.

We need to know what happened mid Air, if it was the Captain's inexperience that led to panicking or the passengers were just unnecessarily being dramatic

The video actually got me laughing... The cries of adults scared of death. Dramatic passengers, inexperienced flight attenders to calm their nerves.

Thank God their lives were spared.

Besides, how did they know one of the engines has failed? Did the pilot tell them that? I doubt!

Anyway, according to the poster, there was fire somewhere. So maybe that & the circling & probably some other thing like loud noises made them panic like that. Whatever that made them cry and Pray like that must be serious.

losing one engine shouldn't be a big deal , most twin engine planes can fly comfortable with his one engine

At the point of death, some could not resist the temptation of taking pictures. If anything had happened, maybe they would have been sharing the pictures in hell.

You sound like you condemn taking pictures??

Flying this period has turned scary.

Similar incidence happened on 28 of December 2018. Same route. The plane hovered in the air for about 30 minutes and couldn't land. The pilot then managed to return to Lagos.

The craziest part is that a plane can land safely with just 1 engine. Most people don't know that though

Planes fly just fine with one engine, though at lower altitudes.

Even with 2 engines gone planes still glide and can, in many cases, be safety guided to land ..even though the landing is usually hard.

Not to suggest the experience isn't terrifying or completely safe.

it's high time we stop flying Azman Air. The experience was terrible. I thought the plane will crash, I was so scared.

Wait o! Are you saying that the pilot couldn't land at the intended airport but he returned to Lagos and then landed safely?

If one is observant it is actually possible to foresee local crashes to within a few months and also identify which airline would be involved.

Obviously, Azman has been cutting corners and the end result is fairly certain

So scared of what? death? I hate it when humans are scared of death, knowing you ain't living forever.

I remember when I went on journey on a company vehicle, the vehicle nearly had an accident. everyone were shouting, crying and praying. I was busy playing games on my phone, and smiling. you need the weird look everyone gave me after everything.

Fear kills

Hello, flying with one engine of two engine plane does not come easy. If u are not an experienced pilot u will eventually crash that plane. As a matter of fact cruising those kind of airplane is difficult let alone landing them. It does not come easy as u put it for pilots.

It depends on what type of engine loss and what is the cause of the loss.... and which of the two engines is lost and which model of aircraft, age of aircraft, etc. All these factors will ultimately determine if it will be survivable.

In Nigeria the famous DANA flight incident started with a midflight single engine failure. The rest is history.

Losing an engine is a big deal mister. In standard aviation practice the pilot will declare an emergency and locate the nearest airfield for landing simply because the cause of such failure is not likely to be determinate or rectifiable in all cases.

So don't make it look as if it is not a big deal. It is not a comfortable nor a secure ride. It is just possible, no more, period. In the history of aviation engine loss incidents have resulted in a 50:50 disaster scenario. Some have escaped, others have not. The key here is what caused the loss of the engine and the quality of aircraft and aircrew in question.

Today aircraft engine development and advancements has enabled ETOPS for twin engined aircrafts flying intercontinental, i.e over water but these are aircrafts and engines we certainly cannot afford in Nigeria for now. So any loss of engine in flight in Nigeria right now is a very big deal.
