Damn right, poco. However, that does not work for all companies especially multinationals. I got a job with a multinational at 27 and got another one with another multinational a year after. And I didn't have to know anyone in both coys. The 2-1 part is true, though. pocohantas: |

Don't mind him. All my friends that studied civil engineering(including my brother) are either working with real estate firms or doing road and building construction contracts. The ones that graduated with a 2,1 are working with oik and gas coys thornapple: 1 Like |

I guess those are the only ones that don't car-the auditing firms and banks. Besides, the auditing firms in Nigeria grossly underpay their staff compared to what their counterparts earn abroad.however, for multinational FMCG''s and Oil and gas firms, course of study and grade is even more important than age. cutesmilez: |

This is another generalisation that is a fallacy and is fast gaining acceptance amongst Nigerian youths. I know , at least, a hundred people that have gotten employment with companies where they earn about seven digit salaries without knowing anyone in those companies. All these people has to do was to study some courses in the universities and another thing common to all of them is that none graduated with less than a 2-1. So if you're a student here, please study hard first and get a 2-1 then you have the opportunity of applying for decent jobs KardinalZik: |

Petroleum engineering is too narrow. There are even more engineers from other disciplines in the oil and gas industry than there are petroleum engineers. But it's still a good course though if I had a child , I'll advise him to study something more broad. Kylekent59: |

LegalOpinion:I don't know what drew my attention to this thread maybe cos of the alaba market, but sir I will like to clear your view on 'uneducated trader' .. It still baffles me that some 'educated' people still doesn't know the meaning of education.. Going or passing through a higher institution is not the meaning of education, education is acquiring and gaining knowledge, a young boy from the village comes to learn a particular trade and during his course of apprenticeship he acquires more knowledge and skills in the particular trade which when he becomes a boss of his own he apply the knowledge gain over the years to his business and in no time he grows and become multinational. Come to Alaba market today and see young boys(uneducated traders) raking in millions. Am a trader and educated 6 Likes 1 Share |

smeag0l:Got ur point sir. It all boils down to having good grades. My advice is that, no matter the course one is privileged to study in school, one should just strive and make at list a 2.1 grade, or just be good in it. May God help us in this country. |

williexxx: Mtcheewww.. you know the worst part? Not only am I studying Biochemistry, I am now doing it in a low-grade school. Imo state University. Am just tired. I am in my final year now. People say I am still young(20), and I can resit for jamb and do medicine at once. As e de be now, that is the best way out o. Coz even in my school, it takes them like 3 to 5 years to clear students for NYSC and then another wahala again waiting for NYSC. I have put two and two together. I'll take my chances in the med school. Make im be as e go be. |

Mechanical Engineering...it doesn't have meaning in Nigeria. Because people prefer Mechanics (road side) than wasting their time to acquire the degree. |

Abuskid: I waited to see History on the list and I finally found it. Most Nigerians don't know what is History and as such, we find ourselves where we are today. For your information, the Federal Government as at September, 2018 made History compulsory from Primary One to Jss three, and optional in higher classes. History is compulsory in all western countries at the foundational level. Every trained Nigerian Army who passed through the NDA compulsory underwent training in Nigeria History and a glimpse of World History, this gave them ample edge over the uninformed civilian. History is not a course for every body. It is a course for the ruling class and heir apparent. I rep History. Proudly an Historian. No regrets from day one till now. |

Accounting except you wanna be a lecturer reason being that even a medical doctor can work as an accountant all he needs is to pass an ICAN exam, he's good to go; so what's the need of wasting four years studying such course? Banking/Finance we all know that all you need is to be a graduate with 2.1 graduate at age 24 to 26 |
Re: What Are Those Courses You Won't Advise Anyone To Study In Nigeria? by joyousever(f): 3:10am On Jan 07, 2019 |
So because of that people shouldn't acquire university education again? Be informed that no matter the amount of money a non-graduate has, there are certain circles he/she can't break into. Besides, there's always this underlying inferiority complex in them. Open your eyes, this is Nigeria where paper qualification is highly regarded, unlike abroad where your handiwork or hands-on skills count more than your paper qualification. Nothing stops you from acquiring any skills alongside your degree certificate. University education is a status symbol in Nigeria, take it or leave it. Rindo69: |

SAMBARRY: I was waiting to see this. I don't know if others have responded to you because I didn't scroll down. I was thinking people have become more informed, perhaps you belong to the previous generation, i.e. you are 55 and above. Math is one of the very best courses to study these days. Yes, I said it. And I have seen mannnnnnny things in mannnnnnnnny places. Some of the best traders, IT people, investment gurus, etc, have math backgrounds, even in Nigeria. These days, I tell young and talented people to study math, do well and come back to me...Opportunities brekete brekete |
