Armed soldiers on Sunday invaded Daily Trust regional office in Maiduguri, Borno state and arrested the regional editor, Uthman Abubakar and a reporter, Ibrahim Sawab.

It is not clear why they took the action but it may be connected with the lead story of Daily Trust on Sunday on military operation in the North East.

Daily Trust also learnt that the soldiers shut the gate of the Maiduguri regional office, after arresting the two editorial staff on sight at the time of the raid.

@POLITICSNGR

PoliticsNGR has just been informed that Nigerian Soldiers have stormed the Abuja and Borno, seizing computers, phones and arresting journalists.

Below is a statement from the Newspaper;

"Armed soldiers have invaded Daily Trust head office in Abuja, hours after taking over the Newspaper’s regional office in Maiduguri, Borno state and arrested the regional editor, Uthman Abubakar and a reporter, Ibrahim Sawab.

The soldiers forced the gate open at the head office and drove in with three Jokic vans loaded with armed soldiers.

Everyone in the building was asked to move to the ground floor while they move computers.

The military personnel retrieved the phones of all staff member in the office. They also loaded all computers at the head office into some of their vans before taking off.

Dozens of soldiers are presently stationed within and outside the building, preventing entry and exit.

It is not clear yet why they took the action but it may be connected with the lead story of Daily Trust on Sunday on military operation in the North East.

The soldiers had shut the gate of the Maiduguri regional office earlier in the day, after arresting the two editorial staff on sight at the time of the raid.

All efforts to get the Military authorities’ response to these invasions have proved abortive as the Nigerian Army spokesman, Brigadier General Sani Usman ignored calls made to him by our reporter.

He later sent a text message asking for a text message inquiry which our reporter sent immediately, but Brigadier General Usman is yet to respond to the text sent to him."

This shouldn't be happening in a so called Democracy, it's utter lunacy, in reality soldiers have no power of arrest within the civilian population, unless State of Emergency has been declared and the Military took over, this shouldn't be happening

It's not possible to buy u personnel gun for use in the battlefield.

I know of buying some accesories and kits online but not a firearm.

You need to go through the police to get a fire arm permit either as a civilian or military/security agencies but I think as a military man it should be easier.

Dailytrust headquarter and regional headquarter was invaded because of this article. The Nigerian army is not really telling us the truth about what is happening in the North east.
Buratai does not deserve to still be the COAS, he needs someone to remind him that we're practising democracy, if buhari is a competent president, buratai should have been retired by now.

A group in the Niger delta blew up a pipeline in the Niger delta last week, the oil pipeline belong to conoil, they said it's just a warning, I hope buhari looks into it very fast.

I remember 2016 when PMB stopped paying the militants in the Niger delta, he introduced OP Crocodile smile, he wanted to crush the militants, within a few weeks Nigeria oil production was reduced to less than 1mbd from more than 2mbd. I hope he will handle this militant group smartly and won't listen to useless advise from buratai(the owner of two expensive properties in Dubai).

What assumptions did i jump to? Those were pics of BIR, and i point out that the BIR are specialized units, aren't they? And what if they are 3,000 strong? How hard is it to kit 3,000 men, seriously?
And your pic of actual Cameroonian soldiers means? What battle zone was that taken from? How many of them were deployed to that battle zone? a few hundred? Unless you are new here, i think we've all seen regular NA troops very well kitted in battle as well.
Why are some of you guys bent on belittling our troops?
When Cameroon have tens of thousands of troops to kit and feed, let me know and show us pics of how they kit them in ongoing battle, actual battle, not chasing around guys with machetes in the woods .

CLARIFICATION ON INVITATION OF MEDIA TRUST STAFF BY THE SECURITY AGENCIES

The Nigerian Army wishes to clarify on alleged invasion of Media Trust Headquarters in Abuja and regional office in Maiduguri. We would like to state that soldiers of the Nigerian Army along with elements of Nigeria Police Force and other Security Agencies were indeed at Abuja and Maiduguri offices of the publishing company to invite the staff of the company over its lead story on Sunday Trust publication, which divulged classified military information, thus undermining national security.

In it, the newspaper made disclosed details of planned military operations against the Boko Haram terrorists. The disclosure of classified security information amounts to a breach of national security and run contrary to Sections 1 and 2 of the Official Secrets Act. It afforded the Boko Haram terrorists prior notice of our plans and giving them early warning to prepare against the Nigerian military, thus sabotaging the planned operations and putting the lives of troops in imminent and clear danger.

We would like to state that the invitation of those responsible for divulging military plans was done with the best of intention in order to make them realise the import of such acts to our national security. We therefore advice all, particularly journalists, not to worry but engage in their responsive reportage and to be professional as the Nigerian Army has no intention of muzzling the press or jeopardising press freedom.

We however, wish to enjoin further that they should eschew jeopardizing national security in their reportage. We would not tolerate situation where a publication would consistently side with terrorists and undermine our National institutions.

We wish to appeal to all, especially the media, to join hands with the Nigerian military and security forces to end terrorism and insurgency in Nigeria. We would like to further assure that the invitation is for further investigation and if need be, all those culpable of jeopardising operations security will be prosecuted by the relevant law enforcement agency.

Though it may be wrong for the military to have gone... They did so with the police, and daily trust wants us to believe they went alone.... Such mischief
In my opinion, there is a justification for such arrest, the press shouldn't have publicised such a vital information as it endangers the entire operation... Those soldiers who leaked the information should be punished...

I think the reason for these his; service pistol are usually carried by Commissioned officers in Nigeria military. Nowadays you can see these service pistols with SF or other elite team.

Look, this current NA brass is the most incompetent we have seen in a long time. I usually love a decent fictional story, but here I am, c0ck in hand and not even a twitch.

This fictional story about daily trust disclosing sensitive intel is just not selling at all. Didn't they tell us Baga and other areas were already recaptured from BH?. How do we even trust these guys when they give us false information?. When I read the DT article on the planned operation yesterday, I disbelieved it because I chose to trust the NA's press release which clearly stated that Baga and the whole of Kukawa was under control.

Now another story again. Na wa o.
Re: Battle Field Discussion (picture/video) Of African Military . by Sizzorkay: 8:34am On Jan 07, 2019
Silly people, is this how you issue invitation? I mean, why do we always use force with everything? All you have to do is question whoever wrote the article and figure out their source, which of course real journalists will never divulge, but still you don't need tens of soldiers and cops for this, and no need to seize their equipments either

Oga be factual, it is the job of the press to give out information, sensitive or not. Anything you don't want the public to know, don't tell the press. Anywhere in the world, the press doesn't keep secrets.

The NA is just covering it's lies, they told us Baga and co were already recaptured, until DT bursted the lie. Now they are making the mistake of summarily arresting journalists and confiscating press property. If AI pounce on them now, they will be crying foul.

Soldiers don't make arrests, they are not supposed to even be there in the first place. If they wanted the DT journalists arrested, they could have done so through the police. Invitation indeed.

Didn't the US just deploy troops to this country two days ago?. What gave the military mind to stage a coup with US troops on its soil?. It's very suspicious.
Central Africa does not even have a regional power to rally a response again this. Soon French troops will flood the place. I guess it's time for Ali Bongo to go.

The US was there because they were allowed to be there, what concerns US troops with coup in Gabon, so why even put their presence there into consideration, all they would do is leave if it becomes unstable for their troops, they will not get involved.
Why make it sound as if the US deployed troops there by force, they were allowed, and they can be asked to leave, and they will
