470 days ago, I started this thread.

We are grateful to God for the strength , wisdom and knowledge he has given all contributors; Lives that have been positively impacted and success stories we've gotten so far - from securing admission offers to visa approvals to people securing well paid jobs in Ireland.

Our appreciation goes to the CREATOR of all things and beings - GOD almighty and everyone who has shared their fears, concerns , skepticism and success stories with us. Together, we've kept Travel agents on their feets and toes.

During the last meeting with the Irish embassy in Abuja, I met severally agents who intactly recognised the name 'ICAS'; basically, most of you have gone back to them to request for discounts the agents didn't disclose initially or required documents for visa application.

It's still a learning curve for us @ ICaS-Nigeria and everyone as well and we can't wait to be of more positive impact in #2019.

So let's do more in #2019.

Happy new year Guys and Ladies!

Let me share this. Not to discourage anyone, but I do emphasize that is difficult changing status in Canada or Australia form Graduate student to PR.

Everyone keeps hearing news it's greener on the other side, but alas its not. Am just trying to advise people to weigh their options well before jumping ship. The best way to migrate to Canada / Australia with certainty and ROI is through the permanent residence.

Ireland may not seem like the best but, there are lots of jobs opportunities.

As seen on International Education News Website:
================================
Removing the Barriers for International Students to Work and Settle in Canada
=================================================

While international students arrive in Canada in record numbers, when compared to the US and the UK, they are experiencing barriers when it comes to employment and permanent resident status following graduation. It seems Canadian employers prefer to hire those with local work experience and with permanent residence or citizenship status and are reluctant to take on the administrative load of temporary residents. Added to which, there is a lack of settlement services to guide the students through Canadian immigration policies. The Canadian Federation of Independent Business (CFIB) found there were a record 399,000 private sector vacancies at the end of 2017 – an increase of 3 per cent over 2016.

Source: Study International

lol this is so wrong. When was this article written?

Who told you it is difficult to change status from graduate student to PR in Canada? I laugh again. I respect the job you are doing on this thread but please be careful of information you post on a public forum.

I know many people in the church I just joined (RCCG Ontario grace assembly) who all became PR via student permit (more than 15). I have more than 5 friends I already knew outside the church before coming to Canada who all became PR via masters degree in Canada.

I don’t know anyone who got student permit in Canada for at least 14 months program that did not get work permit and then PR afterwards except that person committed a crime they don’t want to tell you about or they willingly left.

The major problem of Canada is the visa process takes time and very difficult but once you step into the land and obey the rules, forget it, you will get your PR. I made lot of research from students in these countries about Ireland, USA and Canada before jumping ship.

Also let me add, the weather in Canada is also a barrier but we are Nigerians and we are survivors. Which other barrier? Oh and in the western world (Ireland, USA, UK, Canada) they work hard.

My roomie (a female from India) just got 3 years work permit and just started job last month. She did 8 months program (insurance) and another 8 months program (business) and then she got 3 years work permit. She will work for a year and then apply for PR.

I still don’t know how many countries in the world that gives you the opportunity of getting 3 years guaranteed work permit for masters degree of about 14-16 months or 2 x 8 months college degree certificate. How will you not see job in 3 years? Ki aiye ma mu wa grin

Ireland is very good (I have friends there) but don’t try and put down Canada just because you are biased towards Ireland. Everybody knows Ireland economy just started picking up about 2 or 3 years ago.

Yes there are job opportunities in Ireland but are you trying to say they have more jobs than Canada? Please don’t even get me started. Ireland’s economy is gradually coming up and doing well. Let’s not overhype it.

The author of that article knows nothing about current immigration challenges (or probably it is an old article). This was confirmed when he/she mentioned UK. The same UK so many students are running away from because it is so difficult to get a job after your MSC except you attended a top school (preferably 1-15 top rated schools) and must be a highly sought after degree and have a very good result before you can get a company to sponsor you for some years before you can get ILR. The same UK that students start panicking once they are about to finish their masters degree because they get only extra 4 months on their visa (some schools 6 months).

I will even advise someone going for masters to consider Ireland before UK if they don’t plan on coming to Nigeria after studies.

P.S I schooled in UK for UG before recently moving to Canada so I know what I am talking about.

#2019 is all about being positive, staying positive and acting positive.

So this year, let's add empathy; What you do intend to study, what is your budget and the game plan.

#Estonia is an IT hub ; #czech is another country with potentials #lithuania as well (Jump on individual threads relating to each)

masters is 2 years @ an average of #2m per year ,
monthly living expenses is 300 -500 euros including rent etc.
Quality Education ;
1 year graduate visa to stay back;
Minimum wage is from 5 euros depending on which country and type of job
You can work and study @ 20 hours per week during term time and full time during holidays
Huge potential to start a business especially in IT * #taxify came from Estonia
If you have excellent skills especially in IT, you can apply for jobs in other European countries (Since its part of Schengen, same visa gives you access to other european - schengen countries to shop for job, attend interviews or trade) note : UK, Ireland, Switzerland and few others are not part of Schengen

*** Yes , you can get 30 days entry visa permit for #Estonia from Nigeria without stepping outside Nigeria.

It's a new year , lets harness opportunities, let's Inspire.

Thanks for your reply!

I'd like to study anything IT related that doesn't require coding skills. I also can fit into Media /Public Relations programmes as that's my UG course of study

Yeah I'm already on the Estonia thread too but admission should be later this month..Getting into Estonia via Egypt/India seems to be one of the problems Though but I think there will be a way once I head back to the thread for updates

Never heard about Czech though, do they have a thread on nairaland? Do you have in depth information about them? Please share if you do

Budget is about $10k and that's just like scratching the surface for Ireland as fees start from €8k - €10k as I have seen

Also for Ireland, can you study a 1 yr course and then stay back on work permit? Do they allow it or it has to be a 2 year programme like Canada? Please advice.

Thank you

For Ireland, there are higher diploma courses but mostly for 3rd class BSc students / HND or those changing from a field to another field based on work experience and additional certifications.

Higher diploma in Ireland still cost the same or almost the same as a masters degree. And you get 1 year graduate work permit.

don't know if there is a Czech Republic thread, please find out .

Wouldn't it be better to apply to something in digital marketing or public relations and then self study and write IT certifications as a means of entering into the IT field proper? Could be a way to kill two birds with one stone

Also, Czech, Hw much is needed?

Everyone has a chance with at least the 2 years work permit.
