kenya unlike Tz and Nigeria has never and will not have debt problem. We have never defaulted or ask for debt forgiviness. Our debt to gdp has always been around 30-60% of our gdp.Our sgr has attained 5yr projections in just 1yr.We are running 4 passenger trains daily. We are running about 14 cargo trains daily. This is in just one year.Chinese have agreed to finance the remaining part of SGR coz kenya is not a banana republic.
Tell me about Nigeria's debt problem grin

Kenya began 2018 with maiden cargo train and two passenger train on its greenfield SGR..we kept adding a train every month and as of now..we ran 30 cargo trains and 4 passenger trains daily.Ethiopia who began two years early are still on 2 or 1 train.Kenya by end of 2019 will transport 8m cargo thro sgr..25% of all cargo...and 5yrs earlier than projected.Lets not talk about Nigeria sgr...still under construction 10yrs later and whatever is operational can barely do a trip.Kenya SGR from MSA to NBO was constructed in record 3yrs..2yrs ahead of schedule...and is already 5yrs ahead of projection in the cargo its handling.Nigeria took 6yrs to construct Abuja kaduna...mere 200km..took another 2yrs to start operation and 2yrs later it has carried 900k passenger.Kenya SGR in one & half year had carried 2m passengers...6m tonnes of cargo in a year. KENYA CAN NEVER BE COMPARED TO NIGERIA OR WORSE THE LAZY NEIGHBOUR TANZANIA.Yes we dont have oil or gold or diamond but we make our tea & flowers count by using our brains & muscles...human capital is the greatest resource.Ethiopia already asked for 20yr extension to repay sgr..we are asking for more loans.
Spot the difference between Kenya SGR and Abuja-Kaduna SGR (and not the massive Lagos-Ibadan SGR still under construction).

Even with the fact that we only run passenger trains . We don’ t have freight to move from Kaduna to Abuja, yet the system still made over 400% revenue.
Now imagine how Lagos-Ibadan SGR would be as its been connected to the Port?

Although it was initiated 2006/2007, Construction started 2011-2014 so it took four years to construct Abuja kaduna line which is double track btw not single track like your overpriced line.

Revenue is not profit.Your Abuja-Kaduna line is hemorrhaging money trust me. The first year of operation of Kenya's SGR - was basically two passenger trains - and the test run for cargo - and we understandably made 100M dollar loss. Running a railway is not cheap.

For a rail line to break even - you need lots of cargo and passengers. Very few worldwide every make profit.

We'd had projected that the Kenyan line would break even within five years of operation. We are already near the 5yr projected cargo on 1st year of Cargo operation and therefore this year we might break even- and next year make profit. And the same year when the cost of transporting cargo was reduced by more than 200%!! - from 1,000 dollars container to 250 - from MSA to NBO. That discount rate is ending but new cargo rates are still about 100% of cost of transporting container before SGR.

You are still building Lagos-Ibandan - distance of 120Km - for years grin grin grin grin grin. Meanwhile we completed 500kms in 3yrs...and just about done with 150Kms that involved digging 5Km of tunnel through the rift valley - the second longest tunnel in Africa.

"The SGR Ngong tunnel became the longest railway tunnel in East Africa and second in Africa.

It stretches for 7.41km which is second to the Hex River Tunnels in South Africa which stands at 13.6km."

Nigeria CAN NEVER compete with Kenyan on anything outside population and faked GDP.

Our SGR has improved Mombas port operational efficiency and even Durban should be worried now.

You took 4 years to construct 200Km railway. You were constructing 50Km of track per year. One minute you claim kenya economy is puny consisting of tea & flowers - the next you claim we have oil, gold and name it. Yes we have probably all minerals but in very minute quantities they are as good as non-existent. We have not sold single oil barrel.

NIgera has had similar debt crisis like TZ - and have had most of their debts forgiven - for simply being so hopeless unable to ever pay.The worst kenya have ever done is to ask for debt rescheduling.

Double track. Don't forget that. 186km of double track.

Show me where I said you only have tea and flowers!

I don't care about quantities, you have you have.
So stop claiming you don't have natural resources.

160 bn $ for 180 mn people works out to 890 $ per capita per year

80bn$ for 48 mn is 1670 $ per capita per year. As usual almost twice in everything meaningful!

Ethiopian economy grows faster than Kenyan

Ethiopian GDP is larger than Kenyan

Kenya is more indebted than Ethiopia

Ethiopian economy is growing faster than that of Kenya but Kenya still has a higher GDP than Ethiopia as of January 2019.

Kenya $90 billion
Ethiopia $86 billion

And even the gap between economic growth rates of Kenya and Ethiopia is getting narrowly adjusted year in year out.

Ethiopia is the second most indebted African nation to China after Angola.
More than 60% of Kenya's debt is domestic but.

Now when it comes to education levels, civilization, entertainment, sports, technology, tourism etc Ethiopia isn't close to Kenya.

Kenya and Ethiopia might be peering each other in economy and infrastructure I guess.

Per capita, right. OK let's do debt per capita, sounds like fun.

Nigeria's debt 74bn = 370

Kenya's debt 50bn = 1000.

Wow, you guys better start working your ass off! Each of you owe 1000 dollars!

Which planet are you from? Double stacking and double track are not related at all. You can build double track lines and still double stack (like some parts of India). They are not mutually exclusive at all.

Meanwhile the SGR project was a deal sub contracted to both Chinese and local expatriates where locals accounted for 40% back in 2014.
It was expected to create jobs to 5,000 Chinese and 30,000 black Kenyans and so it was and they're now 80% done with Nairobi Naivasha SGR route.Black Kenyans and Chinese are working in the sgr track fields, but have you ever been to Kenya yourself?
