NIMC Charging 15,000 Naira For Modification Of Date Of Birth?

I made a mistake during the process of my National Identity card registration, and when I got to their head quarter in Abuja they charged me 15,000 Naira for the modification while on the website it was stated for 500 Naira only, is this an act of extortion or is something wrong with their system?

The government should enlighten us the more or check their system properly, their are lots of people that made mistakes during the process of the registration and needs to modify it, how are they suppose to be serving the masses with such extortion, I'm speaking for the masses

You are speaking for the masses. During the initial registration, you were staring at the screen when your personal details were been inputed (including your date of birth). You were issued a slip of registration (which included your personal details (and date of birth)). And now you suddenly realized there was a mistake in your date of birth.
...Pot calling kettle black...

The OP is not lying. N15,000 is the official approved fee for date of birth modification while N500 is for minor changes/modifications like change of name due to marriage, family decision, religious considerations, etc. You also pay N500 to reprint your loss of NIN slip. The truth is that before now, date of birth was what we call unupdatable field because you can only be born once but along the line, we discovered there were few people with genuine need to effect changes for obvious reasons which the Commission will investigate properly before deciding to accede to the request or not.

The N15,000 for change of date of birth is mainly to discourage such requests and it is only limited to once in a lifeime. Even when the date is eventually changed as paying the amount is not a guarantee of getting it change, the Commosion still keep track of the initial change made but shows the recent changes should there be need for further investigations.

On what you have on the websites the, it was for modification strictly for change of name and other details and not for change of birth as prior to this time, change in date of birth was not even permitted.

Many Nigerians have up to five 5 dates of birth depending on what they intend to use it for. Some are not able to remember the one they used for immigration, FRSC, CBN, police, etc recruitment and as such with the harmonization of the different databases going on, some of these lies come to the open and you one now need NIMC, being the sole repository of biometric databases as directed by the FG to attempt to clear some of these messes.

With NIMC now, you lie once and learn to live with the lie for life. Avoid using different dates of birth and other fraudulent practices with your bio data. It is seriously frowned at by the embassies and could lead to permanent denial of entry visas, etc. the FG is trying to ensure oneness and avoid unnecessary duplications so the system can be trusted and verifiable.

The NIN is the most important and unique identifier required by all, Nigerians and legal residents to maintain and regulate a reliable system of identity management and not just card issuance like before. Please go get yours. The National Identity Smart Card will come later as many people get registered into the national identity database.

NIMC needs to do more with their PR. I'm sure if this topic wasn't raised on nairaland, NIMC Mgt won't deem it fit to let the public know the update on fee of modification of date of birth. NIMC should be proactive rather than being reactive. @nimc_ng twitter handle should have tweeted this and post on relevant information sites. Mr Loveday , I have some questions :

This is in the scenario of someone who has not registered before:

Is the NIMC linked to BVN?

If yes it means you get your DOB data from the Bank

So the DOB info does not originate from NIMC but from the Bank.

If there is an error from the Bank/BVN on the DOB it means this error is passed on to NIMC

However one can effect a change on the DOB in the BVN from the Bank.

If one does this , is the NIMC system not supposed to automatically update itself since the person has not registered for NIN before.

Re: NIMC Charging 15,000 Naira For Modification Of Date Of Birth? by rhamz: 11:47pm On Jan 11, 2019
My own case is different. Nimc wants to punish me because they have a BVN database last updated in 2015.
My DOB was wrongly captured by my bank during bvn registration which i didnt know until 2016 when i wanted to open an account with another bank.I had my DOB corrected on the bvn platform by the bank that made the mistake since 2016.
i registered on Nimc platform in 2016 and was issued a slip. Every time i had the opportunity to get to their office, they tell me the card/Slip isnt ready. i was at their office in Lagos to check again last week and i was told i had to re-register.

i was surprised because i could see my details on their computer. The officer then directed me to another officer when my questions were getting to much. The other officer confirmed my details on their platform using my BVN and even wrote out my NIN for me, but still insisted that i had to re-register because my bvn records had issues on their platform

i had to fill another form and proceeded to get re-registered. After few hours it was my turn to get captured and i was now told that the DOB i have on my form is different from what is obtainable on the bvn platform. I told the officer what happened and explained that it was already resolved but i was surprised when i was told that the bvn records with NIMC is as at 2015 and so no update on bvn reflects on their platform and that People who got enrolled on bvn platform after bvn records where downloaded for Nimc in 2015 cannot register for the national identity card for now.

i was now directed to read the attached internal memos. Why should i pay 15k when i have already been issued NIN ? i have everything requested for to update the DOB including my old National Identity card but i dont 15k to pay.
