Are you moving within the same town? If yes, search for 'man and van' on gumtree and call them to make enquiries. They are usually self-employed guys looking to make extra cash with their vans. Try look for ones that have had their gumtree profile for a while, so you don't fall for scammers.
This is what I did when I moved last year. I spoke to 5 guys I saw on gumtree and eventually settled for one that was available on the day I wanted. It cost me £60 (£30/hr, might be different for your area sha). I had already packed my things and I wasn't moving far away so it only took two hours. He also helped with loading into the van and unloading at my new place.

Yes, it was paid to the DP scheme, however our letting agent did not want to release the last occupier (who was a Nigerian), even gave her a bill to pay them, she challenged it though but not 100%certain she got it back.

Now we have to move houses, unfortunately I tried all i could to get one through gumtree or openrent but no luck.

So we began searching while waiting for our visa approval and saw a property we really liked, bungalow with 3bed and 2 toilet for 650pcm, with EPC rating of C, but sadly the LL rejected us oo with one flimsy excuse of "he does not know our rental history from our country of origin", once the letting agent mentioned that, I felt it was because we are Nigerians he rejected us.

It was sad but we had to renew our search and luckily we got another one with B rating, though more expensive. So now my e-fam come help me oo, things to do while moving house. I have got a list but its all so overwhelming.

a. whats the best way to get van rentals prices? online are scary ooo.
b. Does moving house affect credit score badly
c. How soo can one gets deposit on old apartment... so many questions...


N.B:- for new renters, please try and get a house of C rating because we just discovered a huge saving between D and C, we pay an estimated cost £100 to £120 with SSE a month, my friend with a higher band of C pays £65/pcm and their house is soo warm. Though D is the most common but one should search before making a commitment. I still wonder how people with E and F survive.

£650 is amazingly good,I'm paying over double that for a 3 bed semi but it's almost over as we have exchanged on a house and will settle down finally in a few months.

You should get most of your deposit back,it's usually kept in a deposit scheme and you can even challenge whatever amount they are giving you back if it's not the full amount especially if there's no serious damage apart from the usual wear and tear.If you leave stuff for repair the agents tend to quote exorbitant amounts.
Timing of the return varies by rental agent..some could be days after,some weeks after.If there are deductions cos of repairs it lags on as they have to get quotes for the repair etc

Van hire: Enter Arnold Clark or the equivalent and rent a van for a day or two,it usually works out cheaper.I did this in one of our moves but for the cross country one,I paid some guys in church and they hired a van and did the same but at least they did all the heavy lifting and putting things together.

Story time oo!!!

Tier 2 Renewal using Sopra Steria services.

Like play like play, our 1 year visa don end,how time flies. Prior to renewing we assumed we must have the new visa before the old one expires so saving towards Super priority, only for us to discover that we can continue staying as long as you make an application before it expires, come and see as we happy oo, saving so much on 3 applicants (UK immigration is just too expensive).

We applied 5weeks before it actually expired using the new service and being the guinea pig for the Birmingham centre we waited more than 4hours before they attended to us, after then we did not receive any notification or acknowledgement from UKVI at all and started the 8weeks countdown, meanwhile we discovered other single applicant we applied with at the same appointment got their visa and BRP within 2 weeks but for we with plenty family they took their time sotey , eventually we got decision letter via royal mail on the exact 8th week day and BRP 2 days after.

Meanwhile,my own employer was already disturbing me for how I intend to renew like 3 months before expiration, and due to UKVI not providing any acknowledgement or anything I had to give them consent to use the "Employer checking services" and they responded within 24hrs with an attachment saying I could continue working for 6 months.

Using the new tier 2 portal and sopra steria service was pretty straightforward, and I believe they will be better now in attending to applicant especially those with kids. My little boy disturbed them so much that day ehn, we spent more than 45mins trying to capture his face because he had already slept after playing for more than 3hrs while we were on the queue (this was around 8.30pm already ooo).

So make we drink water on this till next time we apply with £400pound health surcharge......

My eyes couldnt miss the bolded. How you take get one year visa?
Always assummed the dependents visa has to have the same end date with the main applicant. Is it that you applied to join your partner when his Tier 2 visa had one year remaining?
Or did you apply for just 1 year instead of the 3/5 years that your partners Tier 2 visa has, and now you are renewing?
I'm about applying for my wife and kid to join me, my Tier visa expires 2021, Please tell me I can apply for a 1 year Tier 2 dependent visa for them and renew later, meaning I have to pay only 1 year visa and IHS for now till I renew.
Please tell me this is possible.

Stop stretching your neck pass border....... Collect your other 2.5 years....... After that and marriage is still valid, with no curtailment issues...... You then apply for your Blue passport ...........

Pack out? Was a section 21 order issued? Tenancy still live while renovation is carried out? Are you moved out temporarily? Private or council/housing association tenancy? etc etc

Six months was given but they gave an option of getting our choice house from them which they did in 2 months.

It has been concluded actually but I wanted to know if that's the norm.
They paid almost 7k, got our choice house from them again at a very good rate, they paid for moving And fixing cooker.

If section 21 was issued, the right procedure was followed.

So it seems you did well from this deal...... I feel you have been adequately compensated, not unless you are thinking otherwise......

Lol, in my own case, husband signed a 1 year contract so visa was given for the exact duration of the contract, unlike this renewal that they gave us 2 weeks extra.

In your own case, I doubt if you can apply for a lesser duration for your dependant as they are tied to yours, so they can't get lesser or more than that.

It is well we go survive.

About 2 months ago, we got a call from our agent that the neighbor right below us lodged a complaint of disturbance but the Property Manager clearly told us that it is not a crime and there is nothing they can do about it, it was just for our information. Meanwhile they knew we had a child when we filled out forms, so they have got it in their records. The flooring of the lounge is wooden so noise is inevitable. We went a step further to buy a massive centre rug to cushion the effect of the noise but i guess it did't do much.

Now i got an email from a different Property Manager (I'm guessing she is now the new Manager in charge of our property) on another complaint, see below the mail:

Good afternoon,
I do hope that this email finds you well.
We have had another noise complaint regarding this property.
Please ensure that you keep the excessive noise such as banging down to a minimum.
If we receive another complaint we will have to take this further.

I have got a lot of things against her but then again, i need to add more points to ground her, hence my coming here and also to share.

The said tenancy agreement was for 6 months and expires next month, we have indicated our interest in renewing to avoid the stress of moving house, and she even went ahead to send us a new contract the same time she sent this mail.

I will reply her as soon as i get enough points and will ensure i copy their general office email and see what comes out of it.

You have got to be careful, I’ve seen many cases like this and noise is noise no matter who is making it. Your neighbour is entitled to enjoy the comfort of their home without noise from the neighbours etc. Worse case senario your lease will be terminated if you are renting and you may have to find somewhere else to live. You might also end up with a large legal bill since you are the offending party.

Secondly, even if you own the property your neighbour and management company may issue you with a section 126 notice. This is a notice to repair and it forces you to make adjustments to your whole floor area. You will be required to install padding in the floor up to a certain (stated in your lease) standard before installing floor boards or tiling. In some cases, if the lease forbids floor boards on top floors you may have to rip out the floor fittings and install carpets, also to the standard stated in your lease.

For those of you who have very young kids and you are buying a property e.g.flat depending on the area. Please read your lease very well, especially in the noise and flooring part. These days people tend be very selfish and are less tolerant of kids. Looking at the other side of the coin when you work very hard and come home to relax any kind of noise is frustrating.
