Incase you don't know, it's a culture in Nigeria politics that all security chiefs should come from the region where the president hailed from. It was the same thing under Obasanjo administration.

Hmm...

First, respect to Papa....did not know he was still alive. Sad that many of those who played key parts in the 1960-66 events are leaving us one by one.

Second...despite his explanation, the coup was still, in my opinion....unnnecessary. Sure it ended the violence in the South West....but it led to

1.The disaster that was the July 66 coup.

2.The May and October 66 pogroms and the reprisals in December 66.

3.The brutal civil war which left millions dead...and millions injured.

4.More importantly, we ended up truncating prematurely our democratic experiment, we got 40 years of Army rule...and we lost an opportunity to develop a mature democratic system.

In my opinion, Papa AND his colleagues should have resigned from the Army and gone into politics. Let the politicians make their mistakes.

Still....let's say there was no coup. South West might have disintegrated into mass civil war....and history might be looking much different.

Deceitful Yibbos always trying to liberate yorubas uninvitedly since 19gbongbonron!

In 1951, their nationalist( sic) leader left his people and region and wanted to turn western region to the "Paris of Africa". We turned him down.

The Jan 15th coupists, mostly yibbos ostensibly placed their lives on the line to salvage yorubaland from the pseudo One Nigeria, they midwifed, even as they were slaughtering our leaders-both political and servicemen

Ojukwu- their canterkerous, Orangutan lookalike leader would rather liberate yorubaland than seceed with his people who were being slaughtered like 'roaches by their erstwhile fulani masters. Even at that, he needed to kill us by dropping his makeshift bombs on our people- whilst claiming to be our brothers from another mother grin

The Igbos will continue to find it difficult to convince Nigerians that the 1966 coup was not an Igbo coup no matter how they try. One of them in this forum have actually owned up to say that the coup was not properly executed as some of the coup plotters had their personal agenda and almost fought in prison to express their pain of the failed execution of the coup.

It's high time the igbos own up and admit they are also one of the major causes of Nigeria's problems today. Their continual blame of other tribes in Nigeria for their own personal problems will continue to worsen their political fortunes. The igbos can take a cue from PMB who apologised for the June 12 debacle, even if it was for political reasons, at least it's a good way to start. The Govt of Australia had to do a public apology some years back for the way the Australian aborigines were treated way back in previous centuries.

It's evident our nascent democracy was truncated by ambitious Igbo soldiers even if they claim it was for the benefit of Nigeria but the execution of the coup proved otherwise. The igbos should stop using the civil war which was a fallout of the failed coup of 1966 as a shield and blackmail to wipe sentiments.

God bless Nigeria

I am sharing already above in the comment you quoted.

My late uncle was very close to Nzeogwu, they also fought together for Biafra when the war broke out and he escaped so many deaths and raids on his batallion because he was heading Biafran military batallion during the civil war. He had so many medals, both local and foreign.

He said Ahmadu Bello and Tafawa Belewa were all about Northern Islamic agenda just like Buhari now.

He also said if not that Ironsi jailed most of the brutal and smart Igbo soldiers that participated in the 1966 coup after Ironsi took over, that Ironsi wouldn't have been killed because they knew the next plan of Northern politicians and soldiers, and that they would have stalled their midnight killing and cold blood execution of Igbo soldiers at Dordan barracks and other barracks in Lagos while the Igbo soldiers were asleep, which was headed by Muhammadu Buhari, and which made it easy for the Northern led soldiers to invade Western Region's Govorner's office at Ibadan where Ironsi was with Fajuyi and killed Ironsi along with Fajuyi who refused them killing Ironsi the Head of State in his residence

Shut the Bleep up. Fact is, it was an Ibo coup. The Ibo among the coup plotters hijacked the mission and made it an Ibo coup.

We don't care about the intentions behind the coup but the actions of the coup plotters and all the actions point to it being an Ibo coup.

How is it any fvcking Ibo business how a regional government lead his region? How is it your fvcking business if the premiers of the North and West were corrupt? After all, they weren't governing you smellos. If Awolowo wasn't in prison, he would have been hacked down also.

Not to mention how convenient it was for you smellos to murder every other regional leaders apart from the Ibo leaders yet you dare utter stupid nonsense about them being corrupt? Is it your corruption?

Until you smellos accept responsibility on the coup plot and ask for forgiveness for causing the first chaos in Nigeria and truncating our true federalism, you will never heal from your misery. Yeye.

Thank you sir for confirming this as some had for Propaganda reasons started to claim that Lt Col Unegbe was an Onitsha man .Also Lt Col Unegbe was said to have been a bossom friend of Maimailari who the Coup plotters knew would never have taken the killing of Brigadier Maimailari lying down. It was this friendship that was said to have cost Unegbe his life.

Lol.
Can the backstabbing of Yoruba be greater than how Ibo killed Yoruba leaders except Ibo leaders?

How Azikwe appointed 103 Ibos among 105 staffs recruited in University Of Ibadan in a SW region?

How Ironsi truncated our true federalism?

How Ojukwu invaded and attacked the midwest and Ore after he had promised to not invade the neutral grounds in his fight with the northerners?

How Azikwe teamed up with the Northerners against Awolowo so many times in the 60's? Funny thing is same Azikwe betrayed his notherner friends and left for the UK when he already knew his friends would get killed in the Ibo coup plot.

Turning history upside down would change the fact that you smellos are ungrateful backstabbers who deserved everything that befell you. Note that God aint a sentimental emotional being but a supreme being who's always for the truth. Until you tell yourself the truth, you'll never heal from your misery.

Forget what leaders say, pay attention to what they do.

In life, don't listen to what people say, believe what they do.

Buhari for instance write even more, but his actions shows he is a tribal religious bigot, and Islamic extremist and reason why all the northern Almajiri love him, nothing more.

They hate Atiku because Atiku is not a tribal religious bigot ready to kill and undermine other tribes and religion to please Northern Muslims, that's the only reason they don't love Atiku as much.

If Atiku start attacking Christians and condemning Christians while supporting every Muslim extremism, you will see Northerners start to follow him massively, its their way.

They deserve to have their own Islamic nation and practice Islam their way without disturbance from any other tribe or religion, but due to long throat for crude oil, they refuse to seek for their own independent Islamic nation undecided
Another hogwash.

Your nontribal Atiku hasn't said anything negative about the herdsmen rather he supported them with his utterances which was all about the farmer erasing the old grazing routes of the herdsmen which has led to the clash.

What I hate about you smellos is your hypocrisy. You would talk down on someone for something you constanly do. Shameless people. Thank God, the Yorubas are becoming aware of your 2face and shameful acts. Yeye.

You and your Nwobosi are stupid..Yorubas fought the longest inter-tribal wars lasting for decades in this country from the 18th to 19th Century....They were never consumed..

In the early 1920s, there was the Ige Adubi War in Yorubaland...

In the mid-1960s, during the Biafran War, there was the Agbekoya Crisis right here in the same Yorubaland....It took the intervention of Awolowo himself to make those insurrectionists put down their arms and embrace peace....

Nwobosi is just deceiving his gullible kinsmen....He (Nwobosi), Anuforo, and co didn't participate in the coup as Nigerian patriots..They betrayed Nzeogwu.

Typical of Buhari supporters. Did this your epistle answer the simple ABC question I asked? I asked..which of the two leaders do you Yoruba love the most?

You have to appreciate the irony in all of these. These two fellows turned Western Region to war zone. The one was supported with Federal might that put the other in prison, yet when the trouble maker was removed for peace to reign, The whole Yoruba people joined in a war to avenge the one and exterminate their saviours, while the other ran point with the same Federal might used on him hitherto against the same people that took out his bitter rival.
