Nyesome Wike, Rivers State Governor, has alleged that Rotimi Amaechi, Transportation Minister, was behind plots to remove Walter Onnoghen, embattled Chief Justice of Nigeria.

Mr Wike made the claim on Thursday at the campaign rally of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Eleme Area of the State.

Mr Onnoghen is accused for allegedly omitting to declare his assets and illegally operating five domiciliary accounts in various foreign currencies.

The charges were filed by the Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB) on the orders of Abubakar Malami, the Attorney General of the Federation (AGF). Onnoghen is to be arraigned at the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT).

As the matter was called up at the CCT on Monday, the top jurist was absent, challenging the jurisdiction to try him. He was represented by over 40 Senior Advocates of Nigeria (SAN) and some lawyers.

Later in the day, a Federal High Court sitting in Abuja halted the arraignment of the jurist.

Naming the minister as the arrow head of the plot, the governor said the meeting where the plot was hatch was held in Abuja.

“At that meeting in Abuja last Monday, Amaechi confessed that he is the person behind the illegal crisis facing the CJN,” Wike said in a statement signed by Simeon Nwakaudu.

“He (Amaechi) bragged that he will destroy the CJN the way he brought Former President Goodluck Jonathan down,” he added.

The governor said the plot by Amaechi to destroy the nation’s judiciary will finally consume the minister.

Efforts by POLITICS TIMES to get the reaction of the minister were unsuccessful Thursday night.

Wike is on a very strong drug.
It is very evident that he sees Amaechi in his dreams.
He's so afraid of Amaechi and he can't hide it.

If by now you don't know that there's no difference between both parties, then your generation has an issue.

Both PDP and APC don't care about anyone else.

A senior lawyer told TheCable that the ruling party “does not trust Onnoghen to do their bidding in rigging the elections and giving judicial affirmation to their shenanigans, the court cases that have gone against APC in recent weeks."

A former governor from the south-south is allegedly behind the petition.

Nothing new but it's a flop right from the outset. Desperate power drunk fellas.Since the APC believe in a warped selective anti-corruption war, let the trend continue. He that comes to equity must come with a clean hand.Ndi ara. angry

Anyone that doesn't do their bidding is corrupt.

Yet Ganduje is chilling at home.

If Not for illiteracy you would have known that The Nigerian Constitution states the CJN can be removed by the NJC or the Senate.

Judges are not to be corrupt and biased, this CJN is both and also he is a card carrying member of PDP. He should be jailed if found guilty.

How can a judge on average 6 million naira a year altogether have millions upon millions of dollars and foreign properties scattered all over the world ? Then the mumu said I forgot to declare my assets !

I have said this before. Wike is the one controlling nigeira's judiciary thru his numerous buildings and offices his building for the judges. This is the reason Judges in Rivers court can not go against Wike's interest. Amaechi knows all Wike is doing in the judiciary with Odili's wife in supreme court. After the elelction the CJN will still be used by the PDP to overturn some judgement in their favour. The earlier they remove the CJN the better for this govt. That CJN is purely a kopnomi

Let me say that Wike might be saying the truth because both him and Amaechi knows whats going on. U think the Rivers court cancelling all APC candiddates in Rivers is just a coincidence? Its because of Amaechi and Wike's fight. Abey was used by wike to cause this confusion in the state believing wike will allow him be gov 2023

Your post shows you don't even know about the case.
Which assets all over which world.
Son, this is why apc enjoy media trial. Because they know they can always get thousands of ignorant people like you to shout "crucify him crucify him" without knowledge of the case.
For your info, they didn't find any properties abroad talkless of scattered all over the world. They didn't even find any foreign account on him. Rather he has one or two domicilary account here in our local banks here which wasn't included in his asset declaration form.
Frankly, most of us would have made the same mistake. He had declared it some years ago and thought that was okay.
Secondly, I even have some accounts I had since abandoned which I sincerely wouldn't have added if I were filling that form.
Thirdly, there were no "millions and millions of dollars" found in them as you claim. A senior lawyer actually stated that most CJNs travel for international conferences and are paid travel allowances and estacodes in dollars and what is available in the account is actually a reflection of true entitlements of a CJN level.

Honestly, if you guys will stop jumping up to support whatever APC throws up without reasoning, APC would have stopped this nonsense by now. They feed on you people's ignorance and poverty mentality of seeing 'a big man suffer'
