The reason Prince Phillip is not a king is because he was a foreigner and not a direct heir to the throne. When Charles or William become King, their wives will be crowned Queen as well so both King and Queen can exist at the same time.

Your first statement is correct. But ur wrong on the other one. The british monarchy can have a queen & king at the same time. If prince Charles becomes king, his wife will be a queen.

The only reason it's not the case here is because the monarch is a woman. And the title 'king' is higher than the title 'queen'. No one else can have a title higher dn the monarch, so her husband has to be called prince.

The titles have meaning. The monarch, of royal blood, is the highest person in the realm and no one can have a higher title than him/her. Even the title 'duke of Cambridge' is a higher title than the 'duke of sussex'. There's a long list of titles & their hierarchical significance.

The monarchs title matters because the whole country will sing an anthem in reverence to the title. (You can go check the lyrics of their anthem). Also, if he/shes present while the anthem is being sung, u must all stand while d monarch sits. There are many other 'uncivilized' customs like this.

The only evolution dt happened recently is dt the children of the monarchs daughter (if the monarch also has sons) can now be referred to as princes & princesses. You can check all the queens grandchildren, only princess Anne's children are untitled, all her grandkids from her sons (Charles, Andrew and Edward) are referred to as princes & princesses.
It sounds like a ridiculous change, but in their culture it's an incredible milestone for feminism. Princess Anne's children come last in the line of succession to the British throne, even though she's older than her brothers Andrew & Edward. This won't be the case anymore.

The TV series The Crown really did an expose into the lives of the British royals.

Thats just an individual story. Im talking about british titles generally. The queens husband cant be titled higher than a prince. Its law.

PS - The spouses give up everything because their heirs are not theirs. They are practically owned by the country.

Actually being the Queen's husband does not guarantee you the title of a Prince of England and the other realms. You'll just be called by your regular Dukedom name. Duke of Edinburgh in this case.

The Queen actually gifted him the title of a Prince. The story behind it is long, google n read it up
