Greetings to anyone reading this, please pardon my grammatical errors as I bare my heart in this write up. We live in a down floor flat in a three storeyed building and as you know how most compounds in Surulere is without space, ours is surrounded by other tall buildings so to get fresh air especially at night is zero possible.
The state Government has not been forthcoming with pipe borne water these days despite knowing how important water is to human life, the power supply company are making it harder too, you go to bed at night, you won't sleep well due excess heat, you won't see water to at least bath throughout the night to keep cool till morning.
This has been going on in our area in Surulere around Itire/Ishaga. Last night, I thought I was going to die oh God!! We have generator set but the engine is very faulty and very expensive to repair besides, we can't be spending money on fuel on daily basis coupled with the fact that there are other expenses at home to run.
Last night, I was awake till 3am dot, I kept fanning myself and sweating profusely, at a point, I felt I was loosing my breath, I stood up, laid down, sat down, I did everything I could to feel OK but to no avail, my hand was aching me too.
I slept off for about 12minutes only to suddenly jerk up from bed and feel sweat running down my face and body like a cup of water was poured on me hmm.. The mattress was soaked at different sections and I couldn't lie down on it again. The one that scared me most was that I observed that fluid came up into my mouth from my stomach and I rushed to go and spill it out, dehydration too, I kept drinking water and trying to stay alive.
By exactly 3am dot, they brought the light, I wasn't feeling happy because there was no morale for excitement anymore but I finally managed to sleep off, i woke up again as they took it by past 4 again till now. I sleep by 3 or 4 almost every night and I am feeling frustrated. I felt I should share it, I am tired, God please help me, I am always scared once the night approaches on daily basis.. The Government should help the masses with light and water for healthy living.
At 59 we are still dealing with this problems. I hate this country. I shit on the legacy of those self serving nationalists.

Get a rechargeable fan. It will do you a lot of good. It's usually effective when new. Just prepare your mind to buy a new one after one year, but at least it would have served the purpose.

I've had this type of experience before. Mine was made worse by mosquitoes. I had to sleep in my car with the AC on till day break. Naija no easy at all. I have a friend who wants to relocate abroad solely cos of mosquitoes.

Lol, i get that inverter last longer but still not affordable in this economy for an average Nigerian. But about the fan you are wrong, for as low as 15k i can get you good rechargeable Fan that you will enjoy for nothing less than 2yrs,and when the battery becomes weak, replacement is just 4k for new one tongue

grin, well, make sure you buy a good quality one, I dealt with rechargeable fan before, I currently have over 2, one is burnt, the other battery is dead, replacement ain't long lasting. But once my inverter is fully charged, I can go 3 days without electricity interruption

grin. But if you can also get a good rechargeable fan, then you are good to go

My brother you no lie. By the time a govt comes in and start charging on those things bet me he's gonna lose the next election
theoldpretender:
Problems here

1.Poor city planning.Somewhere along the line the plans for Surulere were thrown into the bin

2.Poor light....this one

I blame government for not doing stuff like taking loans to fix power, paying bills for government parastatals.
And I blame Nigerians. Many Nigerians don't pay their bills.
Plus...I am on a prepaid meter. I pay less than $5 for light...,meanwhile AN average Ghanaian pays more. Ghana has 24/7 light...Nigeria does not have light.

3.Poor water.
Again...government...how well do they plan.
Then how many people pay their water bills. Is what we are paying sufficient enough to make the water people supply us with water 24/7

Kai....Nigeria needs CHANGE...not APC or PDP change...CHANGE.

Cos you've seen the future?

Guy, our problem is not our leaders only, it's the country and everything about it
We the citizens ourselves are one of the problems we are facing in this country.
The problem is from grassroot and not the number one citizen only

Or do you want to tell me that Russia became good when Vladmir came into power?
No, it's has always been good before he came into power even though they have their own problems too.

Mind you, I am neither Buhari nor Atiku supporter

But we are in 21st century when it comes to bad things (drugs, prostitution, crime,)

Very rubbish place. angry

I visited my uncle in ijesha. I could only feel so sorry for him. In my mind, the man was living in a slum.

This is a man who when him and his family comes for December, you'll be thinking they are coming from America.

I observed a similar situation even at oshodi. Everywhere was dirty with smelling gutters here and there.

On top of that, everywhere was also noisy.

I just told myself these people are all mad and they have no one to tell them.

My simple answer: everybody must not live in Lagos. The city is too congested. From what you painted, hell fire is the best description for your situation. Lagos is the least place I can even spend up to a week.

Lagosians are always suffering but smiling.

depends on WHERE you stay in Lagos

Cold shower, treated mosquito net and a rechargeable fan will make lives easier.

Also cheap solar rechargeable fans are now available. Charge with the sun during the day and use at night.
Dunno why some people can't get it right with simple options being available at their convenience.

lol yours is just heat. Mine is heat and mosquitoes. I almost cried two nights ago. If we don’t have light at night, I always feel depressed. I had to spray my room around 2am when I couldn’t take it any more. The heat too was unbearable. I just tire for this country

..... and @ chocolateme......

...what can help.... for heat... hot air will rise....it will be cooler if you sleep on the floor... the higher off the floor the hotter it will be. Mosquitoes...... spraying the room is not good.... you will also be breathing in the insecticide which can cause cancer later in life. I suggest you get neem leaves... crush and soak in oil /water...rub on your skin...I'll guarantee you mosquitoes or any insect will flee from you. Neem is a natural insect repellant.
