Yes any suitably rated relay/contactor with at least 1 each of NO and NC contacts such as LC1D25008 can serve as an ATS - please see example diagram below;

You may need additional circuitry to switch your Gen OFF/ON after power transfer though.



So here is the relay i got. Its rated for 10amps of which my load I'm transferring won't be greater than 500w so i think it will be ok. It uses a 12v coil that i powered with a 9v power supply which worked well. Plus it has a manual switch incase i need manual control.

Assuming C10 and no losses, A 200Ah 12V battery has 2400Wh nominal capacity. Useable capacity is 1200Wh.
You need solar panels to replace the useable capacity in the available sunlight hours.
Assuming 4 sun hours in Nigeria, 1200Wh/4h= 300W panel(s).
300W/12V = 25A. Some folks advice to not load your cc above 80%, approx 30A cc.

Any 30A PWM/MPPT CC should do the trick. It's max Voc will define how you configure the 300W array.
Whether it's 2# 150w, 3# 100w, or 1# 300w panel(s).

Even though you got a 1kva inverter, keep your loads below 240w.
Using the same inverter, for each 200Ah battery add a 300w panel and increase your max loads by 240w.




superb, though i would still recommend 2 x 300w/2 x 250w panels, cos you based ur assumption on 50% dod, wch he may likely not adhere to grin

@poster..if you want to go for proper sizing..then you can install 2 to 5. 250w panel per 12v 200ah batt to cover days of poor sunlight. I routinely got 2kwh to 4kwh from my 2kw panel array on rainy/dull days...n this translates to only 1 and 2hrs of sunlight..instead of the 4 to 5hrs accepted standard

Someone admonished that I should always issue a caveat when talking about electricity and electronics.

My first caveat is to not mess with electricity except you are suitably qualified via education and/or training and/or experience grin

With that out of the way, I see a few potential issues - they may not be deal breakers but I just want to clarify.

1) Please confirm that you are using a 10A relay as an auto transfer switch for your entire house loads between mains and inverter or Mains and Gen? If yes, I would be more comfortable if you used a larger size relay or a contactor with headroom for surge loads because a 10A relay such as you have is best suited to switching a single load/appliance and not several loads at once and ideally should NOT be used for INDUCTIVE loads.

Also, your inverter should natively be able to perform a neat changeover between mains and battery mode if nothing is broken.

2) As you have stated that your total loads are 500W - please confirm there is nothing with a compressor or motor in the list e.g Fridge or Freezer

3) Using a 9VDC power supply to (de)energize the coil - Did you verify the output of the power supply? Though the minimum pickup voltage of a 12v relay coil is typically 7.5v, I would be happier with a voltage signal closer to the spec'ed 12v - using a lower voltage signal than spec, you stand the risk of the relay chattering or failing to make proper contact or dropping out prematurely all of which may have unpleasant side effects.

As it stands, it appears you have made it work against all odds but just checkout these points for safe and reliable operation.

Please house I need a reliable Hybrid inverter 7.5kva 48v with at least 60amps Mppt.
It will mostly power a 1.5hp submersible pump only but occasionally (less than 20 days a year) power 2nr 1hp AC.

Please I need help on this.

NiyiOmoIyunade had once recommended Felicity but I noticed they don't have hybrid versions or am I wrong.

A 5Kva should be sufficient to power 1.5hp pump as the only load.

I will inquire about a 7.5Kva hybrid as I never had a need for it before now - worst case scenario is to use two 5Kvas in parallel (Felicity has a very sweet pricepoint on their inverters) but I believe a single 5Kva unit should be sufficient.

Caveat noted loud and clear sir....i am comfortable to a reasonable extent working with Electrical wiring and safety.

First of all thanks for the response, and i like the way you reply. There is something just nice about it.

So to the points raised:

1)I did see the type of relay i went in search of, but that was only after i had picked the current one I'm using. I reasoned that that contactor rating was an overkill... All the loads I'm transferring are virtually non inductive; Led TV, led/ cfl bulbs, and a couple rechargeable fans. My ac, freezer, and a dedicated socket for maybe blenders and other motor loads will be permanently on grid supply.

2)Confirmed... No heavy inductive load.

3)Nice observation boss. I'll look for a 12v power brick to replace it. By the way, since its purely an inductor do i need to connect a small resistor in series with it? What do you think sir?

Hello solar gurus in the house. I've been a silent follower of this thread. I recently have a concern about the poor performance of kung long batteries in an installation in less than 6 months, I want to know if anyone has a similar experience with the brand.

The installation has 4 pcs of battery connected in a 48v setup.

The inverter used is ipower plus 5kva MKS axpert inverter.

The system has 3000w of solar installed (200w ×15) connected in 3×5 set up.

Average load on the system is 650w

Battery backup for night time use was up to 6hrs initially, but now barely last up to two hours.

I've tested the batteries, they seem OK, (just low on charge).

But after charging for approximately 15hours, same issues noticed.

Has anyone had similar experience with this brand or any brand??

What can be done to salvage the situation??

PS: there is no stabilizer used in the set up, cos power supply is fairly stable.

Any/all contributions and suggestions will be highly appreciated

Braaad, Axpert inverters have a terrible charging algorithm with their inbuilt SCC and maybe killing your batteries.
If i remember correctly, mine has an Absorb time of around 10 minutes then it switches to "Float".
I had to get standalone SCCs and moved all my panels to them.

Maybe a firmware update will fix it, but i no get that kind time.
I suggest you look into the effectiveness of your unit's inbuilt solar charger.

Chk the charging voltage setpoints on ur inverter and cc...and confirm it corresponds to kung long.
I hv 8 pieces of kung long .not so impressed with its performance..but still working ok.
When fully charged at night i tested a 1.5hp ac for 60mins and the voltage didnt go below 50.8v

I wud suggest you install the led voltage display to each battery and observe .then load the system with a 1kw or 1.5kw load and observe the individual batt voltages again...
I suspect you may have 1 or 2 bad batts in the bank...also xchk for a loose batt connection

If i cud turn back time...i would hv gone for the quanta batts

the Kung Long battery seems to be a over hyped low quality battery as a friend's own started giving him poor performance after about 9 months of use

For those that wonder y standalone setup are quite expensive dan hybrid, here is jst one of the answers.
Inverter & cc = 400k, hybrid = 280k, The white man is not stupid .
Someone on powerforum sa compared axpert scc with that of victron and results were similar in fact axpert may have won that battle. Some in that same forum have been using theirs for years. Well mileage may differ i am enjoying mine for some months now and my parents have been using theirs going to 3 yrs now
