Destiny27: This are the criteria that determine the cost of plastering. One, the location of the building (for instant if the building is located in ogun state and the masons are also base in ogun state then it will be easy for then to come to the site with less transportation cost but if you want then to come to Benin or Ondo to plaster then since you are not giving them transportation fees and is not one or two person that is coming to site to work, we need to calculate the cost of transport to and fro and add it to the initial cost of the work. Two, Extorting, There are some sites that omo onile after they had finished collecting whatever title they want to collect from house owner, they will then bounce on the workers extorting money from then, they will insist the workers will give then certain amount of money to start the plastering, Ajah area are the worse of it, sometime plasterers or contractor we need to know the area where the work will done and add the omo onile money the initial plastering cost, plastering in an estate is more fair comparing to outside an estate. Three Block works that are not plumb or are usually not done to perfection especially when the bricklayers are not very good, often time, they don't use plumb, the blocks will not stand perfectly vertical, therefore some areas will require more mortar filling to others to compensate for the bad areas, so gauging plastering is what you do to achieve a perfect plain. In doing this some areas will require more mortars than the others, So masons/plasterers will need to use a thin material especially wood with rope to mark out how the plastering will spread round the surface of wall of the building to achieve perfectly vertical walls which is called gauge plastering, so gauging is what you do to achieve a perfect plain. Plastering is usually applied between 15mm to 25mm, but some areas may require more mortar, in such cases, apply cement and sand, leave to dry till the next day before you apply the finished coating of final coating for a smooth surface . I prefer a mixture ratio of 1:5-1:6 for cement, plaster sand mix for this kind of bad block works, and you can see that all of this is going to result in more work for masons/plasters For this particular 4 bedroom bungalow plastering work. Plastering will cost you N240, 000 either Lagos or Ogun State inside an estate or outside an estate. 3 Trucks of 20 tons Plaster sand 105 bags of cements Water 1 Like 1 Share |

Its painful we have lot of bricklayers on the forum claiming to be an Engineer, please be careful who handle your job or project. Judas in our midst ooo. Your hard earning is important. My advice engage a trusted Engineer or Consult one, it will help you someday. I am a building materials marchant, i am not an Engineer but employed & also consult engineers they are very important to your project. 2 Likes |

mountmoriah:The project is in ILESA, osun state. I don't think we have dagolu here? Am taking another moulder there tomorrow for trier. Will let him produce one bag under same supervision like the formal therefore if the blocks yield same that mean the sand is bad but I want to suggest the aggregates were not mixed well and I was like teaching them their work. One of them was my labourer when I was in practice before he became bricklayer hence I trust his comments. God appreciate you sr. I think no one will see to my case. Thanks. |

Engineers, Builders, Tile marketers and construction Enthusiasts could we discuss this issue of "To Tile versus "To Paint" external walls of a house from a cost perspective. I know some will say external wall tiling is old school. Though I see some very good looking houses carrying very well arranges wall tiles design. So my question is this; Is it cheaper (maybe by sqm pricing) to tile external walls than either plaster-painting or plaster-screed-paint? You could use various brands of tiles and paints to make your analysis but preferably affordable mid priced materials will better so that everyone can be carried along. Cc: Hajji 1 Like |

mountmoriah:I'm sorry to bother you again, grateful if you can explain to me the difference between casement and projected window, thanks |
Re: General Topic Thread-To Discuss Anything And Everything in Building Construction by mountmoriah(m): 1:50am On Jan 26, 2019 |
kayusely70: Thanks once again sir for the chance to help out here, i so much fond of helping out when necessary and when i'm available, i derive joy doing so sir. I will like you to understand a point here as a professional that casement and projected or awning windows are almost the same thing, the only different there is just that most projected or awning windows opened outward while most casement windows opened sideways But most fabricators don't even understand this or they understand but try to look other way for a beneficial reason to them. Awning or projected windows are created or fabricated with hinged on top and open outward, enabling ventilation without letting in rain or falling leaves inside the building. Screens are on the inside of the window, where they're more protected from the elements. Awning or projected windows are often used for basements, or main building because they can be placed high on the wall and easily operate with a turn of the handle. 1 Like 1 Share

ceelog: Oga mi. Personally, I will only tile the bottom portion of the house, the others will be plastered and painted, because your house need to breath air. Tiling all the wall will block air intake or outtake.. I will leave other advantages and dis-advantages to the Engineers. Hajji M. 1 Like |

kayusely70: Thanks once again sir for the chance to help out here, i so much fond of helping out when necessary and when i'm available, i derive joy doing so sir. Casement windows are also called projected windows or sash windows – incorporate ‘leaves’ or ‘sashes’ that swing out from the window’s outer frame. 1. Casement windows can take one of two forms: top-hung or side-hung. The sashes of top hung windows are attached to the top of the outer frame with movable friction stays, thus allowing the bottom to swing out. Whereas with side-hung windows the sash is attached either on the left or right, allowing the opposite side to swing out. 2. Control wind, rain or ventilation to the exact degree that you like. Top-hung casement windows are probably which also called projected windows are the best solution for the weather-facing side of any building, as you can have them open without admitting any rain or severe winds. No other window can be opened as far, which can be an important advantage when you depend on cross ventilation to cool your home. 3. Casement window unit usually has a combination of fixed panes as well as opening sashes, but can also be custom-designed. Features and Benefits of casement windows • Excellent weather sealing, with double draft seals. • Available in anodized or powder-coated aluminum. • Available in a wide range of powder-coated colors. • Available in standard 5mm glass, toughened glass or laminated safety glass. • Glass can be tinted reflective in a range of colours. • Sizes up to 2.4m in width, and up to 1.8m in height. 1 Like

Takoro13: Hi, I am currently constructing a Mansionette at Imo, in Ilesha. I also moulded blocks onsite 30blocks/bag. The issue I noticed about ilesha is the sand. There is no good sand in Ilesha, it was frustrating. Untill I met a supplier, but the issue is, they are very Dubious people and you need to watch them everytime. Also the moulded blocks need to be beaten by rain then Dried for 3 sunny days. If its too sunny, wet it thrice daily. 2 Likes |
