Wow, just stumbled upon this thread and i must say that you guys are awesome taking out time to answer these questions. I just got a Nigerian used 2007 4 plug Honda Accord DC as my first car. Many things sound alien to me. Scanned the car before purchase and got these results P0135 HO2S (A/F SENSOR) S1 HEATER CIRCUIT MALFUNCTION P0141 H02S S2 HEATER CIRCUIT MALFUNCTION RIGHT FRONT WHEEL SPEED SENSOR (OPEN OR SHORT) RIGHT FRONT INLET SOLENOID VALVE FAILURE HO2S S2 HEATER CIRCUIT MALFUNCTION Felt these were minor fixes only to be told catalyst is missing (is this picked up by the scan?) and fixes are getting up to 200k. I got this list from the mech and i will like to know your thoughts on these prices. Engine seat 4 pcs #18k. Engine oil nd filter. #7K., Gear oil #7K. ,injector service #8K ,kick starter. #10K, catalyst #40K, steering pump #25k. He also mentioned changing the front two legs, servicing the gear and something that has to do with the steering rods. I will appreciate feedbacks and advices. Thanks guys |

steevy: As a first time car user I understand your plight.. As a Honda user myself let me give you my own thought: Some of the things on the list can be gotten by you Engine Oil: request from previous owner what oil he uses to service the car if it's full synthetic or 20W50 kind of oil.. Full Synthetic is about 17.5k for Mobil while 20W50 is about 4,800.. Please make sure you confirm the oil he uses to avoid stories that touch the heart Gear Oil: you can get the original Honda ATF from cc: luvinhubby or get it's alternative Total MV LV ATF .. Those are the 2 recommended gear oil for Honda.. Stay away from Holts n the rest of them Engine seat: the prices of these varies with position of the seat either front or back. Back are always more expensive and it's advisable you go for follow come toks contact luvinhubby For the rest.. if you are in Lagos you can either go down to ladipo auto market or Honda village in oyingbo and sort the rest parts yourself |

Thanks for this. Thing is, i have already given him money for most parts before seeing this thread and can't even differentiate between original parts and fake even if i decide to purchase myself. Where can i get original Honda parts in Lagos, especially for the ball joints cos of next time.? |

afoxy17: black oil = engine oil pink/wine colour = power steering oil wash under the car with diesel or petrol let it be neat, give next day the culprit seal would reveal itself |

Pls house I need your advise. My sister's Honda Accord 2003(Eod)has been shorting engine oil lil by lil and there is no leak that we could see on the floor, she doesn't drive it always and no smoke except if raced down. We believe the engine is still good cus it drives well, may be we are wrong but any idea pls.. Note that: she always used AZ oil for meinteinance but recently used Mobil oil and that's when she started noticing the shortage. I was the one who detected it. Pls any info on this? |
Re: Maintenance Tips For Honda Cars by nurey(m): 5:23pm On Jan 25, 2019 |
Stillthebest: your car is burning oil evident when you depress accelerator. you may not notice but if someone keeps pedal depressed at 3000rpm check the tail pipe and you did see faint smoke. Your internal seals are damaged, switch back to your 20w50 and start saving for a new engine also ensure to change regularly to avoid sludge. |

luvinhubby: Same thing with our Eod 2003 and no smoking and no leaking. What's the cause? |
Re: Maintenance Tips For Honda Cars by Stillthebest: 5:29pm On Jan 25, 2019 |
nurey: But what's the cause for this?? |
Re: Maintenance Tips For Honda Cars by nurey(m): 5:40pm On Jan 25, 2019 |
Stillthebest: engine manufacturer says use 5w20 engine oil Your sister used palm oil (AZ 20w50) The oil is not designed for that engine protection Due to non protection rubber seals in engine get worn out at alarming rate Engine oil sips through weak seals to wrong areas hence involved in combustion rather than lubrication. Seals would continue to worn put eventually leading to starvation of engine of lubricating oil finally engine knocks and component destroyed. The end, Fiendi, Ciao 2 Likes |

Re: Maintenance Tips For Honda Cars by nurey(m): 8:12pm On Jan 25, 2019 |
Stillthebest: continue using your 20w50 mineral oil until engine packs up or smoke becomes unbearable and embarrassing. using full synthetic 5wxx can aggravate the situation already on ground stay away from the recommended oil till you change the engine to a direct tokunbo. 2 Likes |

Stillthebest: The engine is a KA20 dirt cheap, it is easier, stressless, economical to your pocket and health to replace the engine rather than rebuild in Nigeria. Besides it's an Honda engine just watch out and ensure the engine doesn't short oil too much that can lead it to knock, that engine in that state can last 2years like that this is Honda engine not Toyota. |

Good evening gurus in the house. Please is it true that one does not wash the engine immediately after a new one is fixed to replace a failed one? A friend of mine replaced his Honda Accord engine today and was telling the mechanic that he needed to rush down to a car wash to get the car and the engine washed thoroughly. The mechanic said he should not wash the engine now and wait till like after 3 three weeks to have used the engine well before washing it in spite of how dirty the engine looked today. I'm surprised, is this a normal practice not to immediately wash new engines or what? |
Re: Maintenance Tips For Honda Cars by nurey(m): 10:06pm On Jan 25, 2019 |
barnaby04: WASHING of engine has nothing to do with anything he probably doesn't want your friend to wash it so incase the engine develops fault, the supplier can replace it without attributing engine wash to the engine failure. Or saying the washed isn't what he supplied. Let your friend leave the engine like that but utilise it well by testing it b4 the guarantee date expires. Then he can rather clean the engine with diesel and brush + foam manually for a sparkling feel and less damage that water might cause 1 Like |

Thanks for the comment. I too was actually thinking along that line. Will advise him to clean it as you rightly suggested. Stillthebest: Hullo, With due respect to the poster who attempted to proffer solutions to the issues you raised, if it is true there no leaks at all, I firmly believe yours is more likely a case of a bad PCV valve (stuck open), leading to burning of oil. Simply replacing your PCV valve will solve the problem of oil shortage. It is a relatively cheap fix. Concerning the engine oil viscosity you use, 20W-50 gives poor lubrication on start up, as it takes longer to circulate to the top of the engine, thereby starving it of lubrication. Since most of engine wear occurs around start-up, you may want to make it a habit to allow the car idle for at least, 5 minutes on cold start up before you move the car. The other thing is that such an oil must be changed at least, every three months to prevent/ minimize sludge build up in the engine over time. Cheers! |

Stillthebest: This is what happens when people go against manufacture advice.. The car manual will say use 0w20 ,but for God knows reason people do the opposite.. To make it worse people don't even check the quality of oil been used.. Now from personal experience sir/madam that engine is more likely gone, due to bad oil .. Ringing the engine is waste of time and money. Because ringing of an engine will likely last you 6months to a year... my advice is to continue using the oil u have been using till the engine dies out ... or better yet get a new engine and than start using the appropriate oil ... you mentioned Mobil 1 oil .. Mobil 1 oil does not fix engine issues ,it only helps prong long the life of the engine and makes it run more efficiently. Using Mobil 1 oil now after the fact of abuse is medicine after death.. Again am talking from experience, due to the fact that I have few cars on uber and I do preventive mantainence on all my cars |
