My primera has been smoking early in the morning for few seconds once a while now, I am considering Changing the Valve stem seals since this only happens after parking for a long time and not everytime... so am only changing the seals and not Ringing the whole engine.

i have told my mechanic but he is trying to play smart by charging me the same amount for ringing a whole engine (35k). am not comfortable bn cheated.

My question is, does it take an highly professional mechanic to change Valve seals just like Ringing a whole engine?

My 2AZ Toyota engine is not actually smoking but it shorts oil that I have to top oil frequently. Mechanic said my piston is getting bad.
Is it advisable to ring the engine before it starts smoking?
