President Muhammed Buhari (GCFR) has approved the appointment of a new Director – General for the Legal Aid Council of Nigeria. He is Barrister Aliyu Bagudu Abubakar. An indigene of Kebbi State, Barr. Abubakar graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Law from Usmanu Danfodio University, Sokoto in 1987. He attended the Nigerian Law School in Lagos from 1987 to 1988 and was called to the Nigerian Bar in 1988. He did his National Youth Service with the defunct Companies Registry, Federal Ministry of Trade and Industry and was subsequently employed by the Federal Civil Service Commission as an Assistant Registrar of Companies in 1989. Mr. Abubakar transferred his services to the National Insurance Corporation (NICON) – in Lagos where he rose to become a Senior Management staff before the privatization of the agency in 2005.



Barr. Abubakar thereafter ventured into private legal practice as the founder and Principal Partner, Falalah Law Chambers. Barrister Aliyu Bagudu Abubakar is a member of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) as well as a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Loan and Risk Management of Nigeria (FCILRM). When I fear Buhari was when Wale Oke from South West was removed as NIA boss and Buhari appointed a Northerner.

Kemi Adeosun was forced to resign Buhari could not find another qualified South Westerner to occupy that position.

DSS boss was removed and Bayelsa man was next. Buhari quickly looked for a northerner to replace him.

1. CJN - Tanko (he doubles as head of Sharia judicial system in Nigeria)

3. Chief Judge, Federal High Court - Kafarati
